To enter S mode, shift the shift lever to S. Shift ranges can be
selected by operating the shift lever or paddle shift switches, allow-
ing you to drive in the shift range of your choosing.
Upshifting
Downshifting
GS300h:
The selected shift range, from S1
to S6, will be displayed in the
meter.
The initial shift range in S mode is
automatically set to between S2
and S5 according to vehicle speed.
GS450h:
The selected shift range, from S1
to S8, will be displayed in the
meter.
The initial shift range in S mode is
automatically set to between S2
and S6 according to vehicle speed.

Brake Hold
Turns the brake hold system on
The brake hold standby indicator
(green) comes on. While the sys-
tem is holding the brake, the brake
hold operated indicator (yellow)
comes on.
Brake hold system operating conditions
The brake hold system cannot be turned on in the following conditions:
The trunk or hood is not closed.
The driver’s door is not closed.
The driver is not wearing the seat belt.
If any of the conditions above are detected when the brake hold system is
enabled, the system will turn off and the brake hold standby indicator light
will go off. In addition, if any of the conditions are detected while the system
is holding the brake, a warning buzzer will sound and a message will be
shown on the multi-information display. The parking brake will then be set
automatically.
Brake hold function
If the brake pedal is left released for a period of about 3 minutes after the
system has started holding the brake, the parking brake will be set automat-
ically. In this case, a warning buzzer sounds and a message is shown on the
multi-information display.
To turn the system off while the system is holding the brake, firmly depress
the brake pedal and press the button again.
The brake hold system keeps the brake applied when the shift lever
is in D, S or N with the system on and the brake pedal has been
depressed to stop the vehicle. The system releases the brake when
the accelerator pedal is depressed with the shift lever in D or S to
allow smooth start off.

The brake hold function may not hold the vehicle when the vehicle is on a
steep incline. In this situation, it may be necessary for the driver to apply
the brakes. The multi-information display will inform the driver of this situ-
ation.

Cruise control can be set when
The shift lever is in D or range 4 or higher of S has been selected.
Range 4 or higher of D has been selected by using the paddle shift.
Vehicle speed is above approximately 40 km/h (25 mph).
Accelerating after setting the vehicle speed
The vehicle can be accelerated normally. After acceleration, the set speed
resumes.
Even without canceling the cruise control, the set speed can be increased by
first accelerating the vehicle to the desired speed and then pushing the lever
down to set the new speed.
Automatic cruise control cancelation
Cruise control will stop maintaining the vehicle speed in any of the following
situations.
Actual vehicle speed falls more than approximately 16 km/h (10 mph)
below the preset vehicle speed.
At this time, the memorized set speed is not retained.
Actual vehicle speed is below approximately 40 km/h (25 mph).
VSC is activated.
TRC is activated for a period of time.
When the VSC or TRC system is turned off by pressing the VSC OFF
switch.
If the warning message for the cruise control is shown on the multi-informa-
tion display
Press the “ON/OFF” button once to deactivate the system, and then press the
button again to reactivate the system.
If the cruise control speed cannot be set or if the cruise control cancels imme-
diately after being activated, there may be a malfunction in the cruise control
system. Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Lexus dealer or
repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional.

Dynamic radar cruise control
Dynamic radar cruise control supplements conventional cruise con-
trol with a vehicle-to-vehicle distance control. In vehicle-to-vehicle
distance control mode, the vehicle automatically accelerates or
decelerates in order to maintain a set following distance from vehi-
cles ahead.

is displayed.

In the vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode, the set speed will be
increased or decreased as follows:
• When the set speed is shown in “MPH”
Fine adjustment: By approximately 8 km/h (5 mph) each time the lever
is operated
Large adjustment: By approximately 8 km/h (5 mph) for each 0.3 sec-
onds the lever is held
• When the set speed is shown in “km/h”
Fine adjustment: By approximately 5 km/h (3.1 mph) each time the
lever is operated
Large adjustment: By approximately 5 km/h (3.1 mph) for each 0.3 sec-
onds the lever is held
In the constant speed control mode (P. 309), the set speed will be
increased or decreased as follows:
Fine adjustment: By approximately 1.6 km/h (1 mph) each time the lever
is operated
Large adjustment: The set speed can be increased or decreased continually
until the lever is released.

Select a distance from the table below. Note that the distances
shown correspond to a vehicle speed of 80 km/h (50 mph). Vehicle-
to-vehicle distance increases/decreases in accordance with vehicle
speed.
