the doors using the smart entry
& start system while the elec-
tronic key was still inside the
vehicle.
• An attempt was made to lock
either front door by opening a
door and putting the inside
lock button into the lock posi-
tion, then closing the door by
pulling on the outside door
handle with the electronic key
still inside the vehicle.
Retrieve the electronic key
from the vehicle and lock the
doors again.

with the mechanical key and

Pull the insertion key out of the
kit.
Place the kit with the bottom fac-
ing upward.
Peel off the label, and push in the
insertion key until a click is heard.
Return the kit to an upright posi-
tion and make sure that the com-
pressor switch is off.
Use the kit with the top facing
upward.
Connect the power plug to the
power outlet socket. (P. 475)

If the hybrid system will not start
One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
The electronic key may not be functioning properly.* (P. 622)
There may not be sufficient fuel in the vehicle’s tank.
Refuel the vehicle. (P. 8 3 )
There may be a malfunction in the immobilizer system.* (P. 8 7 )
There may be a malfunction in the P position control system.*
(P. 199, 581)
The hybrid system may be malfunctioning due to an electrical problem
such as electronic key battery depletion or a blown fuse. However,
depending on the type of malfunction, an interim measure is available
to start the hybrid system. (P. 621)
*: It may not be possible to shift the shift position other than P.
One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
The 12-volt battery may be discharged. (P. 624)
The 12-volt battery terminal connections may be loose or corroded.
(P. 504)
Reasons for the hybrid system not starting vary depending on the situa-
tion. Check the following and perform the appropriate procedure:
The hybrid system will not start even though the correct starting
procedure is being followed. (P. 196)
The interior lights and headlights are dim, or the horn does not
sound or sounds at a low volume.
