the Transmission Temperature Warning Light
is illuminated you could cause the fluid to boil
over, come in contact with hot engine or
exhaust components and cause a fire.
Engine Oil Change Indicator System
Oil Change Due — Gasoline Engine
Your vehicle is equipped with an engine oil
change indicator system. The “Oil Change Due”
message will flash in the EVIC display for
approximately 10 seconds after a single chime
has sounded, to indicate the next scheduled oil
change interval. The engine oil change indicator
system is duty cycle based, which means the
engine oil change interval may fluctuate, depen-
dent upon your personal driving style.
Unless reset, this message will continue to
display each time you turn the ignition switch to
the ON/RUN position or cycle the ignition to the
ON/RUN position if equipped with Keyless
Enter-N-Go. To turn off the message temporar-
ily, press and release the MENU button. To reset the oil change indicator system (after
performing the scheduled maintenance) refer to
the following procedure.

2. Fully depress the accelerator pedal, slowly,
three times within 10 seconds.
3. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF/LOCK
position.
NOTE:
If the indicator message illuminates when
you start the vehicle, the oil change indica-
tor system did not reset. If necessary, repeat
this procedure.
Oil Change Due — Diesel Engine
Your vehicle is equipped with an engine oil
change indicator system. The
"Oil Change Due"
message will display in the EVIC for five sec-
onds after a single chime has sounded at the
start of each ignition that an oil change is due.
The engine oil change indicator system is duty
cycle based, which means the engine oil
change interval may fluctuate dependent upon
your personal driving style.
Unless reset, this message will continue to
display each time you cycle the ignition to the
ON/RUN position. To turn off the message

reset. When the fuel economy is reset, the
display will read “RESET” or show dashes for
two seconds. Then, the history information will
be erased, and the averaging will continue from
the last fuel average reading before the reset.
The ECO message will display above the average
fuel economy in the EVIC display. This message
will appear whenever the Multi-Displacement
System (MDS) (if equipped) allows the engine to
operate on four cylinders, or if you are driving in a
fuel efficient manner.

MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE
Maintenance Schedule – Gasoline
Engine
The Scheduled Maintenance services listed in
this manual must be done at the times or
mileages specified to protect your vehicle war-
ranty and ensure the best vehicle performance
and reliability. More frequent maintenance may
be needed for vehicles in severe operating
conditions, such as dusty areas and very short
trip driving. Inspection and service should also
be done anytime a malfunction is suspected.
The oil change indicator system will remind you
that it is time to take your vehicle in for sched-
uled maintenance. On Electronic Vehicle Information Center
(EVIC) equipped vehicles “Oil Change Re-
quired” will be displayed in the EVIC and a
single chime will sound, indicating that an oil
change is necessary.
The oil change indicator message will illuminate
approximately 7,000 miles (11,200 km) after the
most recent oil change was performed. Have
your vehicle serviced as soon as possible,
within 500 miles (800 km).
NOTE:
•
The oil change indicator message will not
monitor the time since the last oil change.
Change your vehicles oil if it has been 12
months since your last oil change even if
the oil change indicator message is NOT
illuminated. •
Change your engine oil more often if you
drive your vehicle off-road for an ex-
tended period of time.
•Under no circumstances should oil change
intervals exceed 7,500 miles (12 000 km) or
12 months, whichever comes first.
Your authorized dealer will reset the oil change
indicator message after completing the sched-
uled oil change. If this scheduled oil change is
performed by someone other than your autho-
rized dealer the message can be reset by
referring to the steps described under ”Elec-
tronic Vehicle Information Center” in “Under-
standing Your Instrument Panel” for further in-
formation.
