This owner's manua l contains important infor­
mation, tips, suggestions, and warnings for
the use of your veh icle.
Make sure that this owner's manua l is always
located in the vehicle. This is especia lly impor­
tant if you allow other people to drive the ve­
h icle, or if you sell it.
This owner's manua l descr ibes the
equipment
range
specified for this mode l at the editoria l
deadline date. Some of the equipment descri­
bed here will on ly be available at a later date,
or only in specific markets.

When the light comes on, an audib le warning
signal is also given .
Parking brak e set
The parking brake wa rning light _ /_
(Canada models) illuminates when the park­
ing brake is set. In addition, a wa rning tone
will sound after you have driven for longer
than 3 seconds and faster than 3 mph (5 km/
h) .
Par king brak e set
The ~ warning/ind icator light i lluminates
when the parking brake is set¢,& .
fi\. WARNING
-Always observe the warnings in
¢ page 174, Engine compartment, be­
fore opening the engine hood and check­
ing the brake fluid.
- Driv ing with low brake fluid is a safety
ha zard! Stop the car and get professional
assistance.
- USA models: If both, the~ warning
light and the
l;S warning light come
on at the same t ime, the rear wheels
could lock up first under hard braking.
Lock-up of the rear wheel brakes can
cause loss of vehicle cont rol and an acci­
dent . Have yo ur vehicle repaired immed i- ately by your a
uthorized Audi dealer or a
qualif ied workshop. Drive s low ly and
avoid sudden, hard brake application .
-Canada models: If both, the brake warn­
ing light . and the ABS warn ing light
liJ come on at the same time, the rear
wheels could lock up f irst under hard
brak ing . Lock-up of the rear wheel brakes
can cause loss of veh icle control and an
accident. Have your vehicle repai red im­
mediately by your author ized Audi dealer
or a qualified wo rkshop . Drive slowly and
avoid sudden, hard brake application.
- If the b rake wa rning/ind icator light does
not go out after a few seconds and the
parking brake is re leased, or lights up
while you are dr iving, the flu id leve l in
the brake flu id reservo ir is too low. If you
believe that it is safe to do so, proceed
immed iate ly at low speed to the nearest
author ized Audi dealer or qualified work­
shop and have the brake system inspect­
ed.
- Always keep in mind that after several
brake applications, you will need greater
p ressu re on the b rake pedal to stop you r
veh icle. Do not rely on strained brakes to
respond with max imum stopping powe r
in critical situations . You must allow for
increased braking distances . The extra
distance used up by fading brakes could lead to an accident .
t!i1 !.!r Safety systems
The I (USA models)/ . (Canada models) in­
dicator light mon itors the safety systems e .g .
(airbags , pretens ioners) and illuminates fo r a
few seconds each time you switch the ign it ion
on.
If the
I (USA models) /. (Canada models)
indicator light does not go out, or if it illumi­
nates while you are driving, or if it starts to
blink , then there is a malfunction somewhe re
in the system. If the ligh t does not i llum inate
when you switch on the ignition, this also
means there is a malfunc tion .

{i§l) Anti-lock brake system
This warning/indicator light monitors the ABS
and the electronic differential lock (EDL) .
The warning/indicator light & (USA mod­
els)
;tlJ (Canada models) will come on for a
few seconds when the ignition is switched on .
The l ight will go out after an automatic check
sequence is completed.
There is a malfunction in the ABS when:
-The warning/indicator light does not illumi­
nate when you switch the ign ition on .
- The warning/indicator light does not go out
after a few seconds .
- The warning/indicator light illuminates wh ile driving.
The ESC indicator light also illuminates if
there is a malfunction in the ABS . The mes­
sage
Stabilization program and ABS: fault!
See owner's manual
also appears in the in­
strument cluster display and a warning tone
sounds .
The brake system will still respond even
without the assistance of the ABS system.
See your authorized Audi dealer as soon as
possible to restore full braking performance.

Malfunction in the brake system
If the brake warning light¢ page 14 and the
ABS warning illuminate
together there may be
a malfunction in the ABS, and there may also
be a ma lfunction in the brake system itself
¢ ,&.. The ABS will not work and you will no­
tice a change in braking response and per­
formance.
In the event of a malfunction in the brake
system

Malfunction in the electronic differential
lock (EDL)
The EDL works together with the ABS. The
ABS warning light will come on if there is a malfunction in the
EDL system
¢page 150.
See your authorized Audi dealer as soon as
possible.
A WARNING

- If the E (USA mode ls)l ii] (Canada
models) warning light does not go out,
or if it comes on whi le driving, the ABS
system is not work ing properly . The vehi­
cle can then be stopped only with the
standard brakes (without ABS). You w ill
not have the protection ABS provides.
Contact your Audi dea ler as soon as pos­
sible.
- USA models: If the 1111 warning ligh t,
the
J;.J warning light and the & warn­
ing light come on together, the rear
wheels could lock up first under hard
brak ing. Rear wheel lock-up can cause
loss of vehicle control and an accident.
Have your vehicle repaired immediately
by your authorized Audi dealer or a quali­
fied workshop. Dr ive slow ly and avoid
sudden, hard brake applications.
- Canada models: If the brake warning
light ., the
DJ warning light and the
ABS warning light

the rear wheels could lock up first under
hard braking. Rear wheel lock-up can
cause loss of vehicle contro l and an acci­
dent . Have your vehicle repaired immedi­
ately by your authorized Audi dealer or a
qualified workshop. Drive s lowly and

If the warning light i lluminates, immediate ly
contact your authori zed Audi dealer or quali­
fied workshop to have all brake pads inspect­
ed . On USA models the warn ing light

comes on together with the warning light

Introduction
The Driver information display inside the in ­
strument cluster provides you, the driver ,
with important information.

With the igni tion on, the display in the Dr iver
I nformation System shows the fo llow ing in­
formation :
- CD* inserted or Radio* station set
- Outs ide temperature* : At temperatures be-
low 41 °F (+ 5 °C), a snowflake symbol ap­
pears in front of the tempe rature d isplay

- Wa rning: front lid , door or eng ine compart­
ment lid open: The disp lay appea rs if the
door, the eng ine compartmen t lid or front
li d is no t closed.

Aut o Check C ontr ol
Some f unctions and vehicle components are
scanned for the ir operating status when you
s witch the ign ition on and whi le you are driv­
ing . Malfunctions or required service proce­
dures are s ignaled audibly and ind icated by
red and yellow illuminated symbols and re­
minders in t he d isplay.
_&. WARNING
-
- Neve r rely ex clusively o n the o utside
tempera ture display to de termine if a
road surface is icy or not. Keep in m ind
that road surfaces, espec ially br idges
and overpasses, co uld be ice covered and
slippery even at an outside temperature
above 41 °F (+ S

-Always remember, even if the "snow­
f lake" symbo l (ice warning) does not ap­
pear in the d isplay, black ice co uld be on
the road .
- Always red uce your speed and d rive with
specia l care in cold weathe r cond itions
when the chance of encoun tering icy
road surfaces i ncreases .
(D Tips
- If the vehicle is stationary, or if you are
dr iving at a very low speed , the tempera­
t u re shown in the d isplay might be
slightly h igher than the actua l o utside
tempe rature. Thi s is caused by the heat
be ing rad iated from t he engine.
- On ve hicles with Audi Nav igation sys­
tem*, the disp lays may differ from their
normal appe aran ce during navig ation.

t ion. If the trip is interrupted for
more than 2

the memory is reset automatica lly.
Total -trip memory (Trip computer 2)
Unlike the sing le-trip memory, the total-trip
memory is not reset automatically. This per­
mits you to evaluate your dr iving data for the
entire period between manual resets.

Operation
The trip computer is controlled by two
switches on the windshield wiper lever.

Resetting the function to zero
" Push the I Reset ! button ® for at least two
seconds.
You can reset the fo llowing values to zero us­
ing the
I Reset I button :
- driving time - distance
-
average f uel mileage
- average speed
The t rip computer only operates when the ig­
nition is on. When you turn on the ignition,
the function that was in use when you last
turned the ignition off will be displayed .

-You can also set the values for the func­
tions to zero in the menu display

-All stored values will be lost if the vehi­
cle battery is disconnected .
- The driving information in the efficiency
program is a lso reset to zero w ith the
single-trip memory.

Some funct ions in yo ur vehicle can be set , ac­
t ivated, and controlled by
Menus (e.g. Acous­
tic park assist *). With these menus you can al­
so select the information shown in the driver
information system, which operates only with
the ignition switched on. Operation is control­
led by the
! Reset I button and the rocker switch
on the wiper lever
q page 25, fig . 12.
The Start menu shows you the different dis­
play types:

Service interval display
The service interval display reminds you when
your next service is due.

The schedule for the next oil change or inspec­
tion is calculated automatically and displayed
accordingly. The display works in two stages :
Service reminder
30 days before the next service is due, a serv­
ice reminder appears in the display when you
turn on the ignition.
After about
S seconds the display switches
back to normal. The distance and time re­
maining are updated each time the ignition is
turned on until the date due for service is reached .
Service due
When the due date for service is reached , the
message
Service due! appears in the instru­
ment cluster immediately after you turn on
the ignition. Additionally, a warning tone
sounds . After about
S seconds the display
switches back to normal.
Calling up the service schedules
If or when an oil change or inspection is due,
can be shown in the instrument cluster by se­
lecting the service interval display. Select
Check > Service > Oil change or Service by us­
ing the
! RESET I button and the rocker switch
c;, page25, fig.12.
Resetting the service interval display
Your authorized Audi dealer will reset the cor­
responding service schedule after performing the appropr
iate service on your vehicle. You
also have the possibility to reset the oil
change schedule after hav ing performed an
oil change according to Aud i specifications.
- Switch the ignition on.
- Pull the knob¢ fig. 19. The message.

button is not pulled within 5 seconds, the
disp lay reset mode closes.

If yo u disconnect the battery terminals, no
ca lculations can be made for the service
interval display during this time and no
service reminder will appear. Remember
that observing the proper service intervals
is vitally important to extending the life of
your vehicle, particularly the engine, and maintaining its value . Even if the mileage
driven is low, the maximum period of one
year from one service to the next must not
be exceeded.
(D Tips
-Do not reset the display between oil
changes, otherwise the display will be in­
correct.
- The information in the Service Reminder
remains stored even when the vehicle
bat tery is disconnec ted.

You can centrally lock and unlock your vehicle
and start the engine with the master key with
remote control. To fold the key out and back
in place, press the re lease button

@ Valet ke y
The valet key on ly fits the lock in the driver's
door and the ignition lock. If you have to leave
the key with somebody e lse, you are well-ad­
vised to turn over the valet key only.
Be aware that the rear lid and glove compart­
ment can be opened from inside the vehicle
using the release buttons .

The eme rgency key is only for temporary use if
the vehicle key should be lost or misplaced

If you lose a key, contact you r a uthorized Audi

Registered ke ys
You can check to find out how many keys have
been reg istered to your vehicle. Therefore,
when buy ing a used veh icle, make sure to get
all of the keys that belong to it.

- Do not leave your vehicle unattended
wit h the key in the ignition lock. Entry by
unauthorized persons could endange r
you o r result in theft or damage the vehi­
cle. A lways loc k all doors a nd take the
key.
- D o not leave ch ildren unattended in the
veh icle, especially wi th access to vehicle
keys . Unguarded access to the keys pro ­
vides children the opportunity to start
the engine and/or activate vehicle sys­
tems such as the power windows etc. Un­ supervised operation of any vehicle sys­
tem by children can result in ser ious in­
jury.
{!) Tips
- If you open the driver's door with the key
left in the ignit ion lock, a chime will
sound . Th is is your rem inder to remove
the key and lock the door.
- For security reasons, rep lacement keys
are only ava ilable from Audi dealers .

Power locking system
General description
The power locking system locks or unlocks all
doors simultaneously.
The power lock ing system in your ve hicle in­
corporates the fo llow ing funct ions:
- Central locking function
- Remote con tro l feature q page 33 .
- Anti -Theft Alarm Sys tem q page 38.
A ll the doors and the rear lid are locked by the
centra l locking system when you lock the vehi­
cle.
The unlocking a nd lock ing mode * can be
changed in t he d river i nfo rmation system
qpage24.
Unlocking the vehicle
You can un lock the vehicle from outs ide e ither
by using the remote control
or by insert ing
a nd turning the key in t he driver's door lock.
When you
unlock your veh icle:
- The anti-theft alarm system is deactivated br iefly.
- The veh icle inter ior lights ill uminate for ap­
proximate ly 30 seconds.
- All turn signa l lights will f lash twice w hen
the car is unlocked.
- After unlock ing the vehicle, yo u have 30 sec­
onds to open a door or the rear lid. After 30
seconds, the vehicle automatically locks and
the ant i-theft a larm system activates again.
The rear lid can be locked or un locked either
by using the remote control
or by insert ing
a nd turning the key in the driver's door lock.
Unlock ing the ve hicle w ith the remote co ntrol
c::::5 will only unlock the rear lid, to open it, the
lid handle needs to be p ressed .
Locking the vehicle
You can lock the vehicle from o utside e ither by
using the remote control
or by insert ing and
turning the key in the drivers's door lock.
When you
lo ck the vehicle:
- All doors and the rear lid are locked. -
All turn signal lights wi ll flash once when
the car is loc ked .
- The ant i-theft a larm system is ac tiva ted.
The ho rn of the anti -theft alarm system wi ll
sound and t he anti-theft a la rm system read­
iness light, located in the center of the in­
strument panel be low the w indshield on the
r ight side of the air vent, will start to blink.
- The vehicle interior lights turn off.
Automat ic lock ing*
T he au tom atic locking fea ture locks a ll the ve­
hicle doors an d the rear lid when you drive
faster than 9 m ph (15 km/h).
You can unlock t he vehi cle from the i nside by:
- remov ing the key from the igni tion swi tc h
(the vehi cle w ill automatically u nlock itself)
or
- pressi ng the un loc k pa rt of the power lock
sw itch

pull ing the door ha ndle (to open the doo r).
If you wish, yo u can have an a utho rized Aud i
dealer convert your power doo r lock system to
automat ic locking.

_& WARNING
- When you loc k yo ur vehicle from o utside,
nobody- espec ia lly children -shou ld re­
main inside the vehicle. Remember,
when yo u lock the vehicle from the out­
side th e wi ndows cannot be o pened from
the inside.
- Wh en you leav e th e ve hicle, always re ­
move the ign ition key and take it w ith
you. This will preven t passe ngers (chil­
d ren, f or example) from acci denta lly be­
i n g loc ke d in the vehicle s hould they
