The vehicle ca n be locked and unlocked at any
door. The remote control key cannot be more
t han 1.5 m away from the door hand le. It
makes no difference whether the m aster key
is in your jacket pocket or i n your brief ca se .
If you grip the door handle while lo cking, th is
can adversely affect the lock ing funct ion.
I t is not possible to re-open the door for a
brief period direct ly after closing it. This al ­
l ows you to ensure that the doors are properly
locked.
I t depends on the sett ings in the radio or
MMI* whether the e ntire vehicle is unlocked
or one of the doors

If your vehicle has been standing for an ex­
tended per iod, please note the following:
- The proximity sensors are deactivated af-
ter a few days to save power. You then
have to pull on the door handle once to
unlock the vehicle and a second t ime to
open the vehicle .
- To prevent the battery from being d is­
charged and to preserve yo ur vehicle 's
ability to start for as long as possib le,
the energy managemen t system gra du­
ally switches off u nnecessa ry c onven­
ience func tions.

If you lock the veh icle using the power loc king
switch, p lease note the followi ng:
- I f a door is open, the veh icle canno t be
loc ked u sing the power loc king system
sw itch.

- You cannot open the doors or the rear lid
from the outside (increased security, for ex­
amp le when you are stopped at a red light).
- The diodes in the power locking switc h illu­
minate when all the doors are closed and
locked.
- You can unlock and open the doors from the
i nside by pul ling on the door hand le .
- If you have a crash and the airbag is activat ­
ed , the doors automatically un lock .
_& WARNING
- The power locking switch works with the
ignition off and automatically locks the
entire vehicle when it is actuated .
- On a vehicle locked from the outside the
power locking system switch is inopera­
t ive.
- locked doors make it more difficult for
emergency workers to get into the vehi­
cle, which puts lives at risk . Do not leave
anyone behind in the veh icle, especially
children .

Electronic immobilizer
The immobilizer prevents your vehicle from
being started by unauthorized persons .
Inside the key there is a computer chip. This
c h ip automat ica lly act ivates/deactiva tes the
electron ic immobilizer .
Applies to vehicles with ignition lock:
The electronic immobilize r deact ivates auto ­
matically when yo u inse rt the remote contro l
key into the ign ition lock.
It activates again
automa tica lly w hen you remove the remote
control key from th e ignition lock .
Applies to vehicles with convenience key:
If the remote control key is located inside t he
vehicle and you press the
I S TART ENGI NE STOP I button, the electro nic
immob il izer deactivates automat ica lly. If you
swi tch the ign it ion off and remov e the remote
co ntrol key from the vehicle, the el ectronic
immob ili zer ac tiva tes aga in a utoma tically.

l eave the vehicle . The key can disa rm the
e lectronic engine immobilize r and permi t
an una uthorized person to start the engine
and enable opera tion of the vehicle sys­

thorized key is used. The vehicle may not

Power windows
Controls
The driver can operate the window regulator
for the driver's door with the left switch and the window regulator for the passenger 's
door with the right switch .

tion function :
Opening the windows
• Press the switch to the first stop and hold it
until the w indow reaches t he des ired pos i­
t io n.

Closing the windows
• Pull the switch to the first stop and hold it
unt il the w indow rea ches t he des ired pos i­
t ion.
• Pu ll the switch brief ly to the
second stop to

A WARNING
--W hen you leave your ve hicle -even if on-
ly br iefly- always remove t he ignition
key . Th is app lies pa rticularly when chil­
d ren remai n in the vehicle. Otherwise t he
chi ldren could sta rt the eng ine o r ope r­
a te ele ctric al eq uipment (e.g . power w in­
dows). The power w indows are function­
a l until the dr iver's door or passenger's
door has been opened .
- Pay close attention w hen closing the win­
dows to p revent pinching of hands o r
limbs.
- W hen locking the vehicle from outside,
the vehicle must be u noccupied since t he
windows can no longer be opened in an
emergency .

-When you open the doors, the windows
automatically lowe r abo ut 10 mm.
- After the ignition has been switched off,
the windows can st ill be opene d or
closed for about 10 mi nutes. The win­
dow regu lators are not sw itched until
the driver's or passenger's door is
opened.
Convenience opening/closing
The windows and the panoramic tilting sun­
roof can be opened and closed with the me­
chanical key or the emergency key .

Correcting window regulator
malfunction
After disconnecting the vehicle battery, the
one-touch up and down feature must be acti­
vated again.
.. Pull and hold t he power w indow switch un­

.. Re lease the switch and pull the switch again
for one second.

After the ignition is switched off, you can still
operate the sunroof for about 10 minutes. As
soon as the driver's o r passenger's doo r is
opened, the switch is inoperative.
Sun blind
The sun blind can be opened and closed man­
ually in any posit ion.
A WARNING
Pay careful attention when closing the
sunroof -otherw ise serio us in jury could re­
sult! For this reason, always remove the ig­
nition key when leaving the vehicle .

Always close your sun roof when leav ing
your vehicle . Sudden rain can cause dam­
age to the interior equipment of your vehi­
cle, particu larly the electronic equipment.

Emergency closing of the panoramic
tilting sunroof
If the sunroof detects an object in its path
when it is closing , it will open again a utomati ­
cally. In this case, you can close the roof with
the power emergency closing function .
.. Within five seconds after the sunroof opens
automatically, pull the switch until the roof
closes .
Valet parking
The valet parking feature protects the lug­
gage comportment from unau thorized ac­
cess .

adaptive light*
When switched on, adaptive ligh t adap ts to
curves in the road depend ing on the vehicle
speed and the steering angle. This provides
better lighting through the curve. The system
operates at speeds between approximately
6 mph (10 km/h) and 68 mph (110 km/h).
Static corner ing light * (vehicles with adaptive
light) -the cornering light switches on at
speeds up to approximately 25 mph (40 km/
h) when a certain steering wheel angle is
reached or when a turn signal is activated. The
area to the s ide of the vehicle is illuminated
better whe n turn ing .
The adaptive light and the cornering light only
function when the switch is in the AUTO posi­
tion (automatic headlights*) .
A WARNING
-Daytime running lights and automatic
headlights* are only intended to ass ist
the driver . T hey do no t re lieve the driver
of his responsibility to chec k the head ­
lights and to t urn them on manua lly ac­
cording to the current light and visibility
conditions. For example, fog cannot be
detected by the light sensors*. So a lways
switch on the headlights

weather conditions and when driving in
the dark .
- Cras hes can happen when you cannot see
the road ahead and when yo u cannot be
seen by other motorists. Always turn on
the head lights so that you can see ahead
and so that others can see your car from
the b ack.
- Please obey all laws when using the
lig hting sys tems described here.

The rear fog lights* should on ly be turned
on in accordance with t raff ic regulation, as

- The light sensor* for headlight control is
located in the rear view m irror mount.
You should therefore not apply any st ick­
ers to the windsh ield in this area in order
to prevent malfunctions or failures.
- Some exterior lighting functions can be
adjusted

- When you remove your key from the igni­
tion while the vehicle's lights are turned
on, a buzzer sounds as long as the driv­
er's door is open .
- In cool or damp weather, the ins ide of
the headlights, turn signals and tail lights can fog over due to the tempera­
ture difference between the inside and
outside. They will clea r shor tly after
switching them on. This does not affect
the service life of the lighting.
- In the even t of a light sensor malfunc­
tion, the driver is no tified in the instru­
ment cluster disp lay¢

Turn signals and high beam lever
The lever operates the turn signals, the high
beams and the headlight flasher .
