Changing th
esettings of th elocking
system
You can chang ethe settings of th elocking
system. This mea nsthat only the driver' sdoor
and th efuel filler flap are unlocked when the
vehicle is unlocked. This is useful if you fre-
quently travel on your own.
X To change th esetting: press and hold
down the %and& buttons simulta-
neously for approximately six seconds until
the battery chec klamp flashes twice
(Y page 79).
i If the settin gofthe locki ngsystem is
changed within th esignal range of th evehi-
cle ,pressi ngthe & or% button:
R locks or
R unlock sthe vehicle
The ke ynow functions as follows:
X To unloc kthe drive r'sdoor: press the
% button once.
X To unlock cen trally:pressthe % but-
to nt wice.
X To lock centrally: pressthe & button.
The KEYLESS-GO function is changed as fol-
lows:
X To unlock th edriver's doo r:touch the
inner surface of the doo rhandle on the
driver' sdoor.
X To unlock centrally: touch theinner sur-
fac eo fthe door handle on th efront-
passenger door or th erear door.
X To lock centrally: touch theouter sensor
surface on one of the door handles
(Y page 77).
X To restor ethe facto rysettings: press
and hold down the %and& buttons

unlock and open the driver' sdoor, the anti-
thef talarm system will be triggered
(Y page 71).
There are several ways to tur noff th ealarm:
X To turn the alarm off with the key: press
the % or& buttonont he key.
or
X Insert the key int othe ignition lock.
or
X To deactivat ethe alarm with KEYLESS-
GO: press th eStart/Stop button in the igni-
tion lock. The key must be in the vehicle.
or
X Lock or unlock the vehicle using KEYLESS-
GO. The key must be outside the vehicle.
If you unlock the vehicle using the emergency
key element, the fuel filler fla pwilln ot be
unlocked automatically.
X To unlock th efuel fil lerf lap: insert the
key into the ignition lock.

United Kingdom only:
if the vehiclehas
been locked with the key or with KEYLESS-
GO, the double lock function is activated as
standard. It is then not possible to open the
doors from inside the vehicle. Deactivate the
interior motion sensor (Y page 72) before you
lock the vehicle. The doors can then be
opened from the inside after the vehicle has
been locked from the outside .The anti-theft
alar msystem is triggered if the doo ris
opened from the inside. Swit choff the alarm
(Y page 71).
You can only open the rea rdoors from inside
the vehicle if they ar enot secured by the
child-proof lock s(Ypage 60). X

You can centrally lock or unlock the vehicle
from the inside. The buttons are located on
both fron tdoors. :
To unlock

If the front-passenger door is closed, the
vehicle locks.
Meanwhile, the fuel filler fla pwill not be
locked or unlocked.
You cannot unlock the vehicle centrally from
the inside if the vehicle has been locked with
the key or KEYL ESS-GO.
For all countries except the United King-
dom: you can ope nadoor from inside the
vehicle even if it has been locked.
Unite dKingdom only: if the vehicle has
been locked with the key or with KEYL ESS-
GO, the double lock function is activate das
standard. It is then not possible to open the
door sfrom insid ethe vehicle. Deac tivate the
interior motion sensor (Y page 72) before you
lock the vehicle .The doors can then be
opened from the insid eafter th evehicle has
been locked from the outside.
If the vehicle has been locked using the lock-
ing button for the central locki ng,orh as been
locked automatically, and adoor is opened
from the inside:
R the vehicle will be fully unlocked if it had
previously been fully unlocked.
R only the door which has been opened from
the inside is unlocked if only the driver's

The vehicle is locked automatically when the
ignitio nisswitched on and the wheels are
turning.
You could therefore be locked out if:
R the vehicle is being pushed.
R the vehicle is being towed.
R the vehicle is being tested on adynamom-
eter.
You can also switch the automatic locking
function on and off using the on-board com-
puter (Y page 283). Powe

WARNING
Make sure tha tnobody can becom etrapped
as you close the doors and tailgate.
If there is adanger of being trapped, pull the
door handle on the inside or outside or pull
the tailgate handle. Do not activate the power closin
gfeature by
tam pering with th elock mechanism .You
coul dotherwis einjure yourself. G
WARNING
Make sure that the doors and tailgate are
alway sfully closed .Otherwise, adoor or the
tailgate coul dopen durin gthe journey and
endanger you or others.
The power closin gfeatur epulls the doors and
tailgate into their locks automatically even if
they are only partly closed.
X Power closin gfeatu re(doors): push the
door up to the first detent position in the
lock.
The power closing featur ewill pull the door
fully closed.
X Power closing tailga te:gentl ypush the
tailgate closed.
The power closing feature will pull the tail-
gate fully closed. Unlockin
gthe driver' sdoor (emer-
gency key element)
If the vehicle can no longer be unlocked with
the key, use the emergenc ykey element.
If you use the emergenc ykey elemen tto
unlock and open the driver' sdoor, the anti-
thef talarm system will be triggered
(Y page 71).
X Take the emergenc ykey elemen tout of the
key (Y page 78).
X Insert the emergenc ykey elemen tinto the
lock of the driver's doo rasfar as it will go. 84

WARNING
The seat scan still be adjusted when there is
no key in the ignition lock. For this reason,
children shoul dnever be left unsupervised in
the vehicle. They could adjust the seats and
becom etrapped. G
WARNING
Only adjus tthe driver's seat when the vehicle
is stationary .You will otherwise be distracted
from the road and traffic condition sand you
could los econtrol of the vehicle as aresult of
the seat moving. This could cause an acci-
dent. G
WARNING
If you adjust the seat height carelessly, you or
others could be trapped and thereby injured.
Children in particula rcould unintentionally
press the buttons to electrically adjust the
seats and becom etrapped.
Take care that:
R while moving th eseats, your hands do not
get under the lever assembly of the seat
adjustmen tsystem.
R children in the vehicle do not slid etheir
hands unde rthe levers. G
WARNING
Make sur ethat nobody can becom etrapped
when adjustin gthe seats.
Observ ethe note sonairbags.
Secur echildren as recommended; see the
"Childre ninthe vehicle" section. G
WARNING
Make sur ethat the bac kofyour head is sup-
ported at eye level by the cen tralarea of the
head restraint. If your head is not supported
correctly by th ehead restraint ,you coul dsuf-
fer asever eneck injury in the event of an accident
.Never driv eifthe head rest raints are
not engaged and set correctly. G
WARNING
As eat belt can only offer its intended degree
of protection when the back rest is almost ver-
tical and the occupan tiss itting upright. Avoid
seat positions that do not allow the seat belt
to be routed correctly. Adjust the backrest so
that it is as upright as possible .Never travel
with the back rest reclined too fa rbackwards.
You could otherwise be seriousl yoreven
fatally injured in th eevent of an accident or
sudden braking.
! To avoid damag etothe seats and the seat
heating, observe the followin ginformation:
R do not spill any liquids on the seats. If
liquid is spilled on the seats, dry them as
soon as possible.
R if the sea tcover sare damp or wet, do not
switc hont he seat heating. The seat
heating should also not be used to dry
the seats.
R clea nthe seat cover sasrecommended;
see "In terior care".
R do not transport heav yloads on the
seats. Do not plac eshar pobjects on the
seat cushions ,e.g. knives, nails or tools.
Th es eats should only be occupied by
passengers, if possible.
R when the seat heatin gisinoperation ,do
not cover the seats with insulating mate-
rials, e.g. blanke ts,c oats, bags, seat cov-
ers, child seats or booster seats.
! Make sure that ther eare no objects in the
footwell or behind th eseats when moving
the seat back .There is arisk that the seats
and/or the objects could be damaged.
i The head restraint scannot be removed
from the fron tseats. The rear-compart-
men thead restraints, however ,can be
removed (Y page 104).

WARNING
In order to avo idinjury when folding the seat
backres tforwards, mov eyour feet and legs
back as far as possible so they are not touch-
ing the seat when folding it forwards.
In order to avoi danaccident or potentially
dangerou ssituation when opening the rear
door and gettin gout of the vehicle, you should
alway sobserv ethe traffic conditions. If you wish to exit the 3r
drow of seats, fold
down the outer seat on the right -hand side as
follows.
The release loop for the EASY-ENTRY/EXIT
feature is located at the bottom on the back
of each outer seat in the 2nd row.
X Pull on release loop :in the direction of
the arrow and hold in this position.
The backrest folds forwards.
X Pull on release loop :again in the direc-
tion of the arrow and hold in this position.
X Lift up the seat until it folds forwards. i
Vehicles with memory function:
The corresponding front seat moves
slightly forwards. Exit position
i
Vehicles with memory function:
Call up the programmed seat setting using
the memory buttons in order to return the
front seat to the saved position.
Moving the outer seats back to the normal
position (2nd row of seats)
X To lock the seat: fold back the seat until
it engages.
X Fold back the backrest until it engages.
X Lean back firmly against the backrest to
ensure it is engaged.
Folding down the seats in the 2nd row
electrically General notes
The outer left and right seats of the 2nd row
can be folded down electrically in order to
enter or exit the 3rd row of seats.
When at least one of the outer seats of the
2nd row is in the entry/exit position, the dis-
play message
2nds eat row, right Not locked is show
ninthe multifunc tion display.
When you fold the seat and backrest back
until they engage, the display message dis-

The system automatically switches down
from level 3to level 2after approximately
eight minutes.
The system automatically switches down

minutes.
The system automatically switches off
approximately 35 minutes after it is set to
level 1.
You can set the distribution of the heated
sections of the seat cushion and backrest.
You can find information about this in the
separate operatin ginstructions.
X Make sure that the key is in position 1or
2 in the ignition lock.
X To switch on: pressbutton :repeatedly
until the desired heating level is set.
X To switch off: press button:repeatedly
until all the indicator lamps go out. i
If the batter yvoltage is too low, the seat
heatin gmay switch off.
Problems with the seat heating The seat heating has switched off prema-
turely or cannot be switched on. The vehicle's
electrical system voltage is too low because
too many electrical consumers are switched
on.
X
Switc hoff elect rical consumers that you do
not need, such as the rear window heating
or interior lighting. Switchin

ted.
X Make sure that the key is in position 1or
2 in the ignition lock.
X To switch on: press button:repeatedly
until the desired ventilation level is set.
X To switch off: press button:repeatedly
until all the indicator lamps go out.
i If the batter yvoltage is too low, the seat
ven tilation may switch off.
i You can open the side windows and the
sliding sunroof using the "Convenience
opening" featur e(Ypage 90). The seat ven-
tilation of the driver' sseat automatically

WARNING

when you activate th eEASY-ENTRY/EXI Tfea-
ture.
If there is arisk of someon ebecomin gtrap-
ped, stop th eadjustment procedure. To halt
the procedure:
R press the steerin gcolum nadjustment but-
ton.
R briefly press one of the memory fun ction
position buttons.
The steerin gcolum nstops moving immedi-
ately.
Do not keep the memory function position
button pressed down, otherwise the memory
function will start and the steerin gwheel and
seat will begin to move.
Never leav echildren unsupervised in the vehi-
cle. They coul dopen the driver' sdoor and
thereby unin tentionally activate the EASY-
ENTRY feature and become trapped.
The EASY-ENTRY/EX ITfeature make sgetting
in and out of your vehicle easier.
You can activa teand deactivat ethe EASY-
ENTRY/ EXIT feature in th eon-board com-
puter (Y page285).
