If work on electronic equipmen tand its soft-
ware is carried out incorrectly, this equipment
could stop working .The electronic systems
are networked via interfaces. Tampering with
these electronic systems could cause mal-
functions in systems which have not been
modified. Malfunctions such as these can
seriously jeopardise the vehicle's operating
safety and therefore your own safety.
You should therefore have all work and mod-
ifications to electronic components carried
out at aqualified specialist workshop. Declarations of conformity
Wireless vehicle components The following information applies to all com-
ponentsoft he vehicle and the COMAND sys-
tem which receive and/or transmit radio
waves:
The components of this vehicle which receive
and/or transmit radio waves are compliant
with the basic requirements and other rele-
vant provisions of Directive 1999/5/EC. You
can obtain further information from any
Mercedes-Ben zService Centre.
Electromagnetic compatibility The electromagnetic compatibility of the vehi-
cle components has been checked and certi-
fied according to the currently valid version
of Directive 72/245/EEC or the equivalent
ECE Regulation ECE-R1 0.Diagnostics connection

WARNING
If you connect equipment to adiagnostics
connection, it can affect the operation of the
vehicle systems. This could compromise the operating safety of your vehicle while driving.
There is
arisk of an accident.
Do not connect any equipment to adiagnos-
tics connection. G
WARNING
Loose equipment or cables hanging from a
device which are connected to adiagnostic
connection could impede pedal clearance.
The equipment or cables could get caught
between the pedals when driving and braking
suddenly. This could impair the function of the
pedals. There is arisk of accident.
Do not attach any equipment or cables in the
driver's footwell.
! If the engine is switched off and equip-
ment on the diagnostics connection is
used, the starter battery may discharge.
The diagnostics connection is only intended
for the connection of diagnostic equipment at
aq ualified specialist workshop.
Connecting equipment to the diagnostics
connection can lead to emissions monitoring
information being reset, for example. This
may lead to the vehicle failing to meet the
requirements of the next emissions test dur-
ing the main inspection. Qualified specialist workshop

Changing th
esettings of th elocking
system
You can chang ethe settings of th elocking
system. This mean stha tonlyt he driver' sdoor
and th efuel fille rflap are unlocked when the
vehicle is unlocked. This is useful if you fre-
quently travel on your own.
X To chang ethe setting: press and hold
down the %and& buttons on the
key simultaneously for approximately six
seconds until the battery chec klamp
flashes twice ( Ypage 79).

R locks or
R unlock sthe vehicle
The ke ynow function sasfollows:
X To unlock th edriver's door: pressthe
% buttononce.
X To unlock centrally: pressthe % but-
to nt wice.
X To lock centrally: pressthe & button.
The KEYLESS-GO function is changed as fol-
lows:
X To unlock th edriver's door: touch the
inner surface of th edoor handle on the
driver' sdoor.
X To unlock centrally: touch theinner sur-
fac eoft hedoor handle on th efront-
passenger door or th erear door.
X To lock centrally: touch theouter sensor
surface on on eofthedoor handles.
X To restor ethe factor ysettings: press
and hold down the %and& buttons
simultaneousl yfor approximately six sec-
onds until th ebattery check lamp flashes

unlocked wit hthe key, use th eemergency

If you use th eemergenc ykey element to
unlock and open the driver's door or the boot
lid, the anti-thef talarm system will be trig-
gered (Y page 71).
There are several ways to tur noff the alarm:
X To turn the alarm off with the key: press
the % or& button on the key.
or
X Insert the key into the ignition lock.
or
X To deactivate the alarm with KEYLESS-
GO: press the Start/Stop button in the igni-
tion lock. The key must be in the vehicle.
or
X Lock or unlock the vehicle using KEYLESS-
GO. The key must be outside the vehicle.
If you unlock the vehicle using the emergency
key element, the fuel filler fla pwilln ot be
unlocked automatically.
X To unlock the fuel filler flap: insert the
key into the ignition lock.

They must be collected sep-
arately and disposed of in an

the batteries replaced at aqualified specialist

The battery is working properly if battery
check lamp :lights up briefly.
The battery is discharged if battery check
lamp :does not light up briefly.
X Change the battery (Y page 79).
i If the key battery is checked within the
signal reception range of the vehicle, press-
ing the &or% button:

X Repeatedly tap the key against your palm
until battery =falls out.
X Inser tthe new battery with the positive ter-
minal facing upwards. Use alint-free cloth
to do so.
X Make sure that the surface of the battery is
free from lint, grease and all other forms of
contamination.
X Insert the front tabs of battery compart-
ment cover :into the housing and then
press to close it.
X Insert emergency key element ;into the
key (Y page 78).
X Check the function of all key buttons on the
vehicle. 80

Problems with the key

the emergency key element. The key is faulty.

afault with KEYLESS-GO.
X Lock/unlock the vehicle using the remote control function of

If this does not work:
X Check the key battery (Y page 79) and replace it if necessary
(Y page 79).
X Lock (Y page 84) or unlock (Y page 84) the vehicle using
the emergency key element. You have lost
