(ALRs), which lock the seat belt
webbing into position by extending
the belt all the way out and then
adjusting the belt to the desired
length to restrain a child seat or
secure a large item in a seat.
Please pay close attention to the infor-
mation in this section. It tells you how
to use your restraint system properly,
to keep you and your passengers as
safe as possible.
If you will be carrying children too
small for adult-sized seat belts, the
seat belts or the ISOFIX feature also
can be used to hold infant and child
restraint systems. For more informa-
tion, refer to ISOFIX — Child Seat
Anchorage System. NOTE:
The Advanced Front Air Bags have
a multistage inflator design. This
allows the air bag to have different
rates of inflation based on several
factors, including the severity and
type of collision.
Here are some simple steps you can
take to minimize the risk of harm
from a deploying air bag:
1.
Children 12 years old and un-
der should always ride buckled up
in a rear seat.
WARNING!
Infants in rear facing child restraints
should never ride in the front seat of
a vehicle with a passenger Advanced
Front Air Bag. An air bag deploy-
ment can cause severe injury or
death to infants in that position.
Children that are not big enough to
wear the vehicle seat belt properly
(see section on Child Restraints)
should be secured in the rear seat in
child restraints or belt-positioning
booster seats. Older children who do
not use child restraints or belt- positioning booster seats should ride
properly buckled up in the rear seat.
Never allow children to slide the
shoulder belt behind them or under
their arm.
You should read the instructions pro-
vided with your child restraint to
make sure that you are using it prop-
erly.
2.
All occupants should always
wear their lap and shoulder belts
properly.
3. The driver and front passenger
seats should be moved back as far
as practical to allow the Advanced
Front Air Bags room to inflate.
4. Do not lean against the door or
window. If your vehicle has side
air bags, and deployment occurs,
the side air bags will inflate force-
fully into the space between you
and the door.
5. If the air bag system in this ve-
hicle needs to be modified to ac-
commodate a disabled person,
contact the Customer Center.

If you activate the washer while the
wiper control is in the off position, the
wipers will operate for two wipe cycles
and then turn off.WARNING!
Sudden loss of visibility through the
windshield could lead to a collision.
You might not see other vehicles or
other obstacles. To avoid sudden ic-
ing of the windshield during freezing
weather, warm the windshield with
defroster before and during wind-
shield washer use.
MIST FEATURE
Push down on the wiper control lever
to activate a single wipe to clear the
windshield of road mist or spray from
a passing vehicle. As long as the lever
is held down, the wipers will continue
to operate.
NOTE:
The mist feature does not activate
the washer pump; therefore, no
washer fluid will be sprayed on the
windshield. The wash function
must be used in order to spray the
windshield with washer fluid. HEADLIGHTS WITH
WIPERS FEATURE
(AVAILABLE WITH
AUTOMATIC HEADLIGHTS
ONLY)
When this feature is active, the head-
lights will turn on approximately
10 seconds after the wipers are turned
on if the multifunction lever (on the
left side of the steering column) is
placed in the AUTO position. In addi-
tion, the headlights will turn off when
the wipers are turned off if they were
turned on by this feature.The headlights with wipers feature
can be turned on or off through the
Electronic Vehicle Information Center
(EVIC). Refer to “Electronic Vehicle
Information Center (EVIC)/Personal
Settings (Customer-Programmable
Features)” in “Understanding Your
Instrument Panel” for further infor-
mation.
TILT/TELESCOPING
STEERING COLUMN
This feature allows you to tilt the
steering column upward or down-
ward. It also allows you to lengthen or
shorten the steering column. The tilt/
telescoping lever is located below the
steering wheel at the end of the steer-
ing column.

To unlock the steering column, push
the lever downward. To tilt the steer-
ing column, move the steering wheel
upward or downward as desired. To
lengthen or shorten the steering col-
umn, pull the steering wheel outward
or push it inward as desired. To lock
the steering column in position, pull
the lever upward until fully engaged.WARNING!
Do not adjust the steering column
while driving. Adjusting the steering
column while driving or driving with
the steering column unlocked, could
cause the driver to lose control of the
vehicle. Be sure the steering column
is locked before driving your vehicle.
Failure to follow this warning may
result in serious injury or death.
ELECTRONIC SPEED
CONTROL
When engaged, the Electronic Speed
Control takes over accelerator opera-
tions at speeds greater than 40 km/h. The Electronic Speed Control buttons
are located on the right side of the
steering wheel.
NOTE:
In order to ensure proper opera-
tion, the Electronic Speed Control
System has been designed to shut
down if multiple Speed Control
functions are operated at the same
time. If this occurs, the Electronic
Speed Control System can be reac-
tivated by pushing the Electronic
Speed Control ON/OFF button and
resetting the desired vehicle set
speed.
TO ACTIVATE
Push the ON/OFF button. The Cruise
Indicator Light in the instrument
cluster will illuminate. To turn the
system off, push the ON/OFF button
a second time. The Cruise Indicator
Light will turn off. The system should
be turned off when not in use.
WARNING!
Leaving the Electronic Speed Con-
trol system on when not in use is
dangerous. You could accidentally
set the system or cause it to go faster
than you want. You could lose con-
trol and have an accident. Always
leave the system OFF when you are
not using it.
TO SET A DESIRED SPEED
Turn the Electronic Speed Control
ON. When the vehicle has reached the
desired speed, press the SET (-) but-
ton and release. Release the accelera-
tor and the vehicle will operate at the
selected speed.

 If this outlet is mishandled, it may

 Many accessories that can beplugged in draw power from the
vehicle's battery, even when not in
use (i.e., cellular phones, etc.).
Eventually, if plugged in long
enough, the vehicle's battery will
discharge sufficiently to degrade
battery life and/or prevent the en-
gine from starting.
 Accessories that draw higher
power (i.e., coolers, vacuum
cleaners, lights, etc.) will degrade
the battery even more quickly.
Only use these intermittently and
with greater caution.

accessories, or long periods of the
vehicle not being started (with ac-
cessories still plugged in), the ve-
hicle must be driven a sufficient
length of time to allow the genera-
tor to recharge the vehicle'sbat-

CIGAR LIGHTER AND
ASH RECEIVER (for
versions/markets, where
provided)
An optional ash receiver is available
from your authorized dealer and will
fit in the center console front cup-
holder.
The optional ash receiver also comes
with a cigar lighter that can be used
with the power outlets. Refer to “Elec-
trical Power Outlets” in “Understand-
ing The Features Of Your Vehicle” for
further information. CUPHOLDERS
FRONT SEAT CUPHOLDER
The cupholder in the center console
will accommodate either two large
size cups or two 0.5 L bottles or cans.
The one-piece insert can be removed
easily for cleaning. An optional re-
movable ashtray may be located in
one of the cupholders.
