Vehicle lights: malfunction
If the message appears, there is a malfunc­
tion in the headlights or light switch. Drive to
your authorized A udi dealer immedi­

A WARNING
- Light bulbs are pressurized and could ex­
plode w hile they are being changed ca us­
ing serious personal injury.
- Work with due care when hand ling the
high-voltage sect ion of gas discharge
(xenon) lights. Failure to do so could re­
sult in death or serious injury.

repaired by your authorized Audi Service
department.
i.lD Headlight range control

If the symbol illuminates, the headlight range
control is no longer work ing properly. Have
the system checked and repaired at your Audi
dealer .

If the indicator light turns on and this mes­
sage appears, there is a malfunct ion in the
adaptive light system. The headlights st ill
function.
Go to an authorized dealersh ip to have the

If the indicato r light turns on and this mes­
sage appears, the light/rain sensor is not

Odometer

The odometer shows you how many miles
(kilometers) you have driven. You can switch
th e display from miles to kilometers and vice
versa via the MMI.
Upper odometer
The trip odometer shows the distance driven
since it was last reset.
It can be used to meas­
ure short distances. The last digit indicates 1/10 of a mile (100 meters).
You can reset the trip odometer to zero by
pressing the Reset button~-
Lower odometer
The lower odometer shows the total number
of miles (kilometers) driven .
Malfunction message
If there is a malfunction in the instrument
cluster,
DEF will appear in the trip odometer
display area. Contact your authorized Audi
dealer to have the problem corrected .

When you open the driver's door, the date and
time appear in the instrument cluster display
for 30 seconds. When the ignition is switched
on, the time is always displayed in the status
line © regardless of the current display.
You can set the time on both clocks and the
date display in the MMI. Refer to the MMI
owner's manual for instructions.
Service interval display
The service interval display reminds you when
your next service is due .

The schedule for the next oil change or inspec­
tion is calculated automatically and displayed
accordingly. The display works in two stages:
Service reminder
30 days before the next service is due, a serv­
ice reminder appears in the display when you
switch the ignition on

After abo ut 5 seconds the display sw itches
back to normal. The distance and time re­
maining are updated eac h time the ignition is
switched on until the date due for service is
reached .
Service due
When the due date for service is reached , the
message
Serv ice due! appears in the instr u­
ment cluster immediately after you switch the
ignit io n on . Additionally, a warning tone
sounds . After about
5 seconds the display
sw itches back to no rmal.
Calling up the service schedules
If or when an oil change or inspection is due,
can be shown in the MMI d isplay by select ing
the service interva l display in the car menu .

Re setting the service interval display
Your author ized Audi dealer w ill reset the cor­
responding service sched ule after performing
the app rop riate se rv ice on you r vehicle . You

oil c hange a ccor ding to Audi s pecifications.

On-Board Diagnostic
system (OBD)
Malfunction Ind icator Lamp (MIL )
The Ma lf u nction Indicator Lam p (M IL) f-4 in
t h e instr ume nt cluster is part of t he On -Board
Diagnostic (OBD
II) system .
T he wa rn ing /indic ator lig ht ill uminates when
the ignitio n is switched on and goes ou t after
t h e engine sta rts and t he id le has sta bilized.
This ind icates that the MIL is working proper­
ly.
If the light does not go out afte r the e ngine
is starte d, or illumi nates w hile you are driv­
i ng, a mal function may exist in the engine sys ­
tem . If t he light illum inates, t he catalytic con-
verter could be damaged .

• The check light turns on brief ly once when a
button is pressed, and during an "inqu iry"
by the convenience key system .

battery is dead and has to be replaced. In
add ition, when the battery is dead

Master key battery replacement
We recommend having the battery changed
by an authorized Audi dealer. However, if you
wish to replace the dead battery yourse lf , pro­
ceed as follows:
• Remove the mechanical key

.. Press the re lease button ® c:> fig. 15 on the
battery holder and at the same time pull the
battery holder out of the master key in the
direction of the arrow .
.. Install the new battery CR 2032 with the
"+" sign facing down.
• Push the battery holder carefu lly into the
master key.
• Install the mechan ical key.

Dispose of dead batteries properly so as
not to poll ute the environment.

The replacement battery must be the
same specification as the original.
Electronic immobilizer
The immobilizer helps to prevent unauthor­
ized use of your vehicle .
A computer chip inside your key automatically
deact ivates the electronic immobilizer when
the key is inside the vehicle . When you remove
the key from the vehicle, the elect ronic immo ­
bilizer is automatically activated once again.
& WARNING
Always take the key with you when you
leave the vehicle. The key can disarm the
e lectronic engine immobilizer and permit
an unauthorized person to start the engine
and enable operation of the vehicle

All-weather lights*
In vehicles wi th all -wea ther lights, the front
lights are adjusted au tomat ically so that you
are less like ly to see glare from your own
headlights, for example when dr iving on a wet
ro ad.
Automatic dynamic headlight rang e
control*
Your vehicle is equipp ed with a headlight
range contro l system so that the headlights
do no t blind oncoming traff ic if the vehicle
load changes. The headlig ht range a lso ad­
justs automatically when braking and acceler­
at ing .
Light function s
The following light funct ions are availab le de­
pend ing on vehicle equipment and on ly func­
t ion when t he light switch is in the AU TO posi ­
tion . You can deactivate these functions i n the
MM I under
Audi adapt ive light c::> page 45 .
Static corner ing light* (vehicles with L ED
headlights or adaptive light) -the cornering
ligh t sw itches on automat ica lly w hen the
stee ring wheel is turned at a ce rtain angle at
speeds up to approxima tely 44 mph (70 km/
h) and when the turn sig nal is act ivate d at
speeds up to approximately 25 mph (40 km/
h) . The area to the side of the veh icle is illumi­
nated bette r when tur ning .
Dynamic curve light * (vehicles with adap tive
light) -the curve ligh t only functions at
speeds betwee n approximately 6 mph (10
km/ h) and 110 km/h and adapts itself to the
curves in the road.

• You can release the switch (®) once you are
sure that you are developing enough for­
ward momentum at the wheels as you de­
press the accelerator .
Depending on the weight of the rig (vehicle
and trai ler) and the severity of the incline, you
may roll backwards as you start . You can pre­
vent roll ing backwards by holding the parking
brake switch(®) pulled out and accelerating -
just as you would when starting on a hill with
a conventional hand brake .
Emergency braking
In the event that the conventional brake sys­
tem fails or locks .
• In an emergency, pull the switch(®) and
continue to pull it to slow your vehicle down
with the parking brake .
• As soon as you release the sw itch
C®> or ac-
cele rate , the braking p rocess stops.
If you pull the switch(®) and hold it above a
speed of about 5 mph (8 km/h), the emergen ­
cy braking function is in it iated. The veh icle is
b raked at all four wheels by activa ting the hy­
d raul ic br ake system. The b rake performance
is simi lar to making an emergency stop
c::> & .
In order not to activate the emergency brak­
i ng by m ista ke, an audible wa rning tone (bu z­
z er) sounds when the swi tc h
C®> is pulled. As
soon as the switch(®) is released, or the accel­
erator pedal is depressed, emergency braking
stops .
.&_ WARNING
Emergency braking should only be used in
an emergency, when the normal foot brake
has failed or the brake pedal is obstructed.
Using the parking bra ke to perform emer­
gency braking will slow yo ur vehicle down
as if you had made a fu ll brake applicat ion.
T he laws of physics cannot be s uspended
even w ith ESC and its associate d compo­
nents (ABS, ASR, EDL). In corners and
when road or weather conditions are bad, a full brake application can cause the vehi- cle to sk
id or the rear end to break away -
risking an accident.
Speed warning system
, Introduction
The speed warning system helps you to stay
under a specified maximum speed .
The speed warning system warns you if you
are exceeding the maximum speed that you
have set . You will hear a warning tone when
your speed exceeds the stored value by ap­ proximate ly 3 mph (3 km/h). An ind icator

turns off when the speed decreases be low the
stored maxim um speed.
Setting a th reshold is recommended if you
would like to be rem inded when you reach a
certain maxim um speed. Situations whe re you
may want to do so include driving in a co untry
with a genera l speed limit or if there is a
specified maximum speed for winter tires.
(D Tips
Even though your vehicle is equipped w ith
a speed warn ing system, you should still
watch the speedometer to make sure you
are not dr iv ing faster than the speed limit.
Setting the threshold
You can set, change and delete the threshold
in the MMI.
• Select: !CAR ! function b utton > Car systems
contro l button > Dri ver ass ist > Speed warn ­
ing .
You can set any threshold between 20 mph
(30 km/h) and 150 mph (240 km/h). Sett ings
can each be adj usted in increments of 5 mph
(10 km/h).

What can adaptive cruise control do?
The adaptive cruise co ntrol system uses video,
radar and ultrasound . Mov ing vehicles ahead
can be r ecognized up to about 650 fe et
(200 m) away.
On ope n roads w ith no traff ic, adaptive cruise
contro l works like a reg ular cruise control sys­
tem. The stored speed is ma in tained . When
approaching a moving veh icle detected up
ah ead, the adap tive cr uise control sys tem au­
tom atically s lows dow n to matc h that vehi­
cle's speed and the n main tains t he d istance
that the driver p revio usly sto red. As soon as
the system does not detect a vehicle up
ahead, adaptive cruise control acce lerates
back up to t he stored speed.
I n stop-an d-go t raffic, adapt ive cr uise contro l
can bra ke until the vehicle stops and acce le r­
ate again under certain conditions and if this
is poss ible within the system's limits and ca­
pabilit ies

Which functions can be controlled?
When you switch adaptive cruise contro l on,
you can set the current speed as the "control speed"
