EPC Electronic power control
This warning/indicator light monitors the
electronic power control.
The ~ warn ing/indicator light (Electronic
Powe r Control) illuminates when you turn o n
the ignition as a function check.

(ESP)
If the Jjj indicator lamp blinks while dr iv ing,
the ESP or ASR (Ant i- Slip Regulation) is active
ly regulating .
If the
D] i ndicator lamp ill uminates, the sys
tem has switched the ESP off. I n this case, you
can switch the ignition off and then on to
switch the ESP on again . The system is func- tion
ing comp lete ly when the indicator lamp
switches off.

Stabili sation program and ABS fault ! See

If the Ii] indicator lamp a nd the ti] ABS indi

E S P. The brakes s till function with their nor
mal power, but ABS is not active.

when you switch the ign ition on, th is also

(l) Tire pressure monitoring system -
telltale indicator lamp
A ppl ies to vehicles: with tire pressure monit oring sys te m
The warning/indicator light appears in the
event of a significant loss of air pressure.
The ti) warning/ind icator light illuminates for
a few seconds after the ignit ion is turned on
as function check, and then goes out.
If the
(g symbol appears, pressure is too low
in at least one tire.
When the system detects a ma lfunction, the
warning/indicator light will flash for approx i
mately one minute and then remain continu
ously illum inated. Th is sequence will continue
upon subsequent vehicle starts up as long as
the ma lfunction ex ists. Contact your author
ized Audi dealer and have the malfunction
corrected .

¢i 9 Turn signals
The indicator light blinks when you use either
turn signal .
Whenever you use the left B or the right II
turn signal, the indicator light blinks. When
you use the emergency flashers , both indica
tor lights flash .
If one of the turn signal light bulbs burn out,
the turn signal will blink tw ice as fast as nor
mal.
~ Safety belts
This warning/indicator light reminds you to
put on your safety belt.
The . warning/ indicator light illum inates
when the ignition is switched on to remind
the dr iver and (on USA models only) any front
passenger to put on the safety belt. Add ition
a lly, an audible warning tone will a lso sound.

o Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
The Ma lfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is part
of the On-Board Diagnostic (OBD II) system.
The
fcj symbol lights up when the ign ition is
turned on and will turn off after the engine
has started and has settled at a constant idle
speed. This indicates that the MIL is work ing
proper ly.
The warning light illuminates when there is a
malfunction in the engine electronic system.
Contact your authorized Audi dea ler and have
the malfunction corrected.

The II warning/indicator light illuminates
when the high beams are on or when you use
the headlight flasher. For more information

CRUISE/ (,)" Cruise control

cruise control is activated .
ABS/ (9) Anti-lock brake system (ABS)
This warning/indicator light monitors the ABS
and the electronic differential lock (EDL).
The warn ing/indicator light r4iS (USA mod
els)!Ei] (Canada models) will come on for a
few seconds when the ignition is switched on.
T he light will go out after an automatic check
sequence is completed.
There is a malfunction in the ABS when:
-The warning/indicator light does not i llum i
nate when you switch on the ignition .
- The warning/indicator light does not go out
after a few seconds.
- The warning/indicator light illuminates
while driving.
The brake system will still respond even
without the assistance of the ABS system.

the wa rn ing/ indicato r light cont inues to ill u
minate for about 30 seconds . If the parking
brake is applied w ith the ign ition t urned off,

abo ut 30 seconds .
The wa rning/indicator light wi ll go out when
the pa rking bra ke is re leased .
If the warning/indicator light flas hes continu
o us ly
after applying the parking bra ke, brak
ing fo rce is not s uff icient to prevent the vehi
cle from rolling unintentionally . Please note
the followi ng:
- If the slo pe of the ground is too steep to

fluid level is low, if there is an ABS system
malfunction or a parking brake malfunction.

light illuminates when the ign ition is turned
on .
It goes out after the engine has been
started. This indicates t hat the brake war ning
light is funct ion ing properly.
If th e br ake w ar ning light d oes not light up
w hen the engin e is c ranking , th ere ma y be a
ma lfun cti on in th e ele ctric al sys tem. In thi s
case, c ontact an auth oriz ed Audi d eale r.
If the brake system warning/ind icator light

not go ou t after a few seconds and the
pa rking brake released, or lights up wh ile
you are driv ing, the fluid level in the
brake fluid reservoir is too low. If yo u be
lieve that it is safe to do so, proceed im
mediately at low speed to the nearest
author ized Audi dealer or qualif ied repair
facility and have the brake system in·
spected.
- Always keep in mind that after severa l
brake applications, you will need greater
pressure on the brake pedal to stop your
veh icle. Do not rely on strained brakes to
respond with max imum stopping power
in critical s ituations. You must allow fo r
increased braking dis tances. The extra
distance used up by fading brakes could
lead to an accident.

range starting from 20 mph to 150 mph (30 k

Auto Check Control
Introduction
The Au to-Check contro l mon itors th e funct ion
of cer ta in vehicle feat ures an d co mpo nen ts.
It
simp ly m ake s su re these fe atures an d compo
nents are working prope rly. The Auto -Check
control works as long a s the ig nition is o n, as
well as whenever the vehicle is drive n.
If a component is mal funct io ni ng o r if the
need f or an urge nt repa ir ha s been de te cted,
t hi s w ill ap pea r in the i nstr ument cluster d is
play . You w ill also hear an a udible warning
tone. The displays are color coded in e ither
red or yellow depend ing on their leve l of p rior
ity .
A red symbol means Danger , a yellow symbo l
indicates
Warn ing . In certain situat ions, in
format ion message for the driver appear in
addition to the red and ye llow symbols .
Function test: automat ic transmis sion*
The Auto- Check Contro l w ill automatically
perfo rm a test each t ime yo u sw itch on t he ig
nition. With the selecto r leve r in
P or N , the
follow ing message appears in the d isplay:
When stationary apply foot brake while se
lecting gear.
