You can centrally lock and unlock your vehicle
and start the engine with the master key with
remote control. A mechanical key is integrat
ed in the master key~
page 39.
® Emergency key
The emergency key is not intended for con
stant use.
It should only be used in an emer
gency . Keep it in a safe place and do not carry
it on your key ring .
Key replacement
If you lose a key, contact your authorized Audi
dealer immediately to have the
lost key disa
bled. Be sure to bring all your keys with you.
Data in the master key
During driving, service and maintenance-rele
vant data is continuously stored on your mas
ter key. Your Audi service adviser can read out
this data and tell you about the work your ve hicle needs. This applies a lso to vehicles with
conven ience key*.
Per sonal comfort settings
If two people use one vehicle, it is recom
mended that each person always uses "their
own" master key . When the ign ition is turned
off or when the vehicle is locked, personal
conven ience settings for the follow ing sys-

terns are stored and assigned to the remote
master key.
- Climate contro l
- Centra l locking system
- Seat memory*
- Parking system*
-Adaptive cruise control*
- Audi side assist*
- Audi drive se lect*
The stored settings are automatically recalled
when you unlock the vehicle, when you open
the doors or when you turn on the ignit ion.
A WARNING
-
- Do not leave your vehicle unattended
with the key in the ignition lock. Entry by
unauthorized persons could endanger
you or result in theft or damage the vehi
cle . Always lock all doors and take the
key .
- Do not leave ch ildren unattended in the
veh icle, especially with access to vehicle
keys . Unguarded access to the keys pro
vides children the opportun ity to start
the engine and/or activate vehicle sys
tems such as the power windows etc. Un
supervised operation of any vehicle sys
tem by children can result in serious In
jury.
- Do not remove the key from the ignition
lock until the vehicle has come to a com
plete stop. Otherwise the steering col
umn lock could suddenly engage -caus
ing the risk of an accident.
@ Tips
- Th e operation of th e remote control key
can be temporarily disrupted by interfer
ence from transmitters in the vicinity of
the vehicle working in the same frequen
cy range (e .g. a cell phone, radio equ ip
ment).
- If you open the driver's door with the key
left in the ignit ion lock, a chime w ill
sound. Th is is your reminder to remove
the key and lock the door.

automatically activated once again.

- The vehicle cannot be s tarted if an unau
thorized key is used. The vehicle may not
start if another radio device such as a key
for another vehicle or a transponder is located on the key ring.

Power locking system
General description
The power locking system locks or unlocks all
doors and the rear lid simultaneously.
You can lock and unlock the vehicle centrally.
You have the following choices:
- Remote master key

-Door handles with convenience key*

- Lock cylinder at the driver's door

- Power locking switc h inside

Selective unlocking
When they a re closed, the door and rea r lid
a re locked. When unlocking, you can set in the
radio or MM!* whether
only t he drive r's door
or the entire vehicle shou ld be un locked

Automatic locking
The automat ic loc king featu re locks all the ve
h icle doors and the rear lid when you drive
faste r than 9 mph ( 15 km/h).
The car is un locked again once the ignition key
is removed. In addition, the veh icle can be un
l ocked if the opening fu nction in the power
l o cki ng system switch or a t one of the door
l evers is act uated . The Auto Lock function can
be turned on and off in the rad io or
MMI*
c:::> page41.
Additionally , in the event of a crash with air
bag dep loyment the doors are automatically
u nlocked to allow access to the vehicle .
Anti-theft alarm warning system
If the an ti- theft alarm warning system de
tects a b reak-in into the vehicle, acoustic and
vis ual warning signals are triggered .
T he anti-theft wa rning system is activated au
tomat ica lly when you lock the vehi cle. It is de
activated when unlocking using the
remot e
k ey,
with the me chanical key , and when you
switch on the ignition.
T he alarm also t urns off when the a larm cy cle
has expired .
Turn signal s
When you unlock the veh icle, the turn s ignals
flash twice, when you lock it once. If they do
not flash, one of the doo rs, the rear lid o r the
hood is not lo cked.
Unintentionally locking yourself out
In the following cases there safeguards to
prevent yo u lock ing your remote master key in
the ve hicle:
- The vehicle does not lock w ith the central
locking switc h

door is open .
- On veh ides w ith convenience key*, if the
most recently used master key is in the lug
gage compa rtment, the rear lid is a utomat i
cally u nlocked again after it is closed.

- W hen you leave the ve hicle, always re
move the ignition key and take it with
you . This will prevent passengers (chil
dren, for example) from acc identally be
ing locked in the vehicle shou ld they acci
dentally press the power locking switch in the front doors.

This feature prevents the vehicle from being
accidentally left unlocked over a long period
of time.

or only certain doors

- In order to make sure the locking func
tion is working, you shou ld always keep
your eye on the vehicle to make sure it is proper ly locked.
- Do not use the remote control if you are
inside the car, otherwise you may unin
tentionally lock the vehicle, and then you
would set off the anti-theft alarm when
you try to start the engine or open a door. In case this happens anyhow, push
the un lock button

- Use the panic funct ion only if you are in
an emergency situation.
Unlocking and locking with convenience
key
Applies to vehicles: with co nve nience key
The doors and the rear lid can be unlocked
and locked without operating the master key.

1.5 m from the appropriate door or the rear

It makes no difference whethe r the mas
te r key is in your jacket pocket or in you r brief
case.
If you grip the door handle while locking, this
can adversely affect the locking function .
It is not possible to re-open the door for a
brief period directly after closing it. This al
lows you to ensure that the doors are properly
locked .

If your vehicle has been standing for an ex
tended per iod, please note the following:
- The prox imity sensors are deactivated af-
ter a few days to save power. You then
have to pull on the door handle once to
unloc k the vehicle and a second t ime to
open the vehicle.
- T o prevent the battery from bei ng d is
charged and to preserve you r vehicle's
ability to sta rt for as long as possib le,
t he energy management sys tem gradu
ally switches off unnecessary

., To tilt the panoramic tilting sunroof, press
the switch briefly .
., To close the panoramic tilting sunroof, pull
the switch briefly .
., To set an intermediate pos ition, press/pull
the switch until the roof reaches the des ired
pos it ion .
After the ignit ion is swi tched off, you can st ill
operate the Panorama for about 10 minutes .
As soon as the driver's or passenger's door is
opened, the sw itch is inoperative .
Sun blind
The sun blind can be opened and closed man
ually in any position.
A WARNING
Pay careful attention when clos ing the
panoramic tilting sunroof - otherwise seri
ous inju ry could result! For this reason, al
ways remove the ignition key when leaving the vehicle.
- Never leave ch ildren o r persons requ iring
assi stan ce a lone in the vehicle, especi ally
when they c ould access the veh icle keys.
Unsupervised use of the keys can res ult
in t he engine being started or use of ve
hicle systems such as the power win -dows, etc. w
hich could res ult in serious
in jury. The doors could be locked with
the remote key, delaying he lp in an
emergency.
- The panoramic tilting sunroof w ill con
tinue to operate until the ign ition key
has bee n removed and one of the front
doors has been opened.
(D Note
A lways close your panoramic t ilting sun
roof when leav ing your vehicle. Sudden
r ain can cause damage to the inte rior
equipment of yo ur vehicle, particular ly the
electronic equipment .

Emergency closing of the panoramic
tilting sunroof
If the s unroof detects an object in its path
when it is closing, it wi ll open aga in automati
ca lly. In this case, you can close the roof with
the power emergency closing function .
., Within five seconds after the sunroo f opens
automatically, pu ll the switch until the roof
closes.
~ Insert the key into the ignition lock .
~ Manual transmission: Fully depress the
clutch peda l and move the sh ift lever to the
neutral position.
~ Automa tic transmission*: Step on the brake
pedal and move the selector lever to the
P
or N position .

By pressing the key
without stepp ing on the
clutch or the brake, the ig nition is switched o n
and off. With the ignit io n on, t he steer ing
wheel is un locked.
You can only remove the key w ith the ignition
sw itched off . T o do this, you have to p ress on
the key aga in. Wi th an a utomat ic transm is
sion, the se lecto r lever must be in the
P posi
tion .
When starting the engine, ma jor e lectr ica l
l oads are switched off tempo ra rily .
After start ing a cold engine, there may be a
brief period of increased no ise because the oi l
p ressu re must fi rst build up in the hydraulic
va lve adjusters. This is normal and not a cause
fo r concern.
If the engine should not start immediately,
the starting p rocess is automatically stopped
after a sho rt time . Repeat sta rting p rocedu re.

cle with an automat ic transm iss ion.

This message appears if you do not step on

T his message appears when attempting to
start the engine if the se lector lever for the
automatic transmission is not in the
P or N

doors can be locked using the remote
transmitter, preventing people from es caping from t he veh icle on t heir own in
the ev ent of an e merge ncy. D epe nding
on t he time of yea r, peop le inside the ve
hicle can be expo sed to very high o r very
low tempe ra tur es.
- Never re mo ve the ign ition key from the
ig nition lo ok while the veh icle i s m oving .

Ignition lock defective .
-Avo id hi gh engine spee ds, fas t a ccelera
tion or heavy engine loa ds while the en
gine is still cold . This could damage the
eng ine.
If the engine does not start immediately, stop
trying after 10 seconds and then try to restart
the eng ine about 30 seconds later .
After a cold engine is star ted, there may be a
brief period of increased noise because oil
pressure must first bui ld up in the hydraulic
va lve adjusters. This is normal and not a cause
for concern.

- Never turn off t he engine until the vehi

- The brake booster and servotron ic only
work when the engine is runn ing . With
the ignition turned off, you have to apply
more force when steering or brak ing.
Since you can not steer and stop normal
ly, th is can lead to acc idents and serious
in ju ries .

Universal remote
control
General information
Applies to vehicles: with Home link® universal remote
control
The Homelink ® feature can learn up to three
radio frequency codes for most current trans
mitters used for operating garage doors, es tate gates, home or outdoor lighting sys
tems, and other devices.
You must first program the Homelink ® trans
mitter before you can use the system
~ page 141, Programming the Homelink ®
transmitter.
In order to program the Home link ® transmit
ter for dev ices utilizing rolling code, a second
pe rson on a ladder who ca n safe ly reach the
garage door opener motor is recommended. I t is also necessary to locate the "learn" but
ton on your garage door opener motor . Refer
to the operating instructions for the opener,
as the location and color of this button may
vary by manufacturer.
You can still use the origina l remote contro l
for the device at any time .

- Never use the Homelink ® transmitte r
with any garage door opener that does
have not the safety stop and reverse fea
tu re as requ ired by federa l safety stand
ards. Th is includes any garage door open
er mode l manufact ured before April 1,
1982.

0 -5 in. (0-13 cm) (use the
shortest distance possible) .
8. Press and hold the activation button on
the remote control.

re-press (cycle) the activation button on your

9. The emergency flashers will flash
three
times
(after about 15-60 seconds) when
the programming is successful. Release
the button on the remote control.
• To program more devices, repeat steps 4 to
9.
10 . Press and hold the trained Homelink ®
button and observe the indicator light@

• If the indicator light is solid/continuous ,
programming is comp lete and your device
should activate when you press and release
the trained Homelink ® button.
• If the indicator light blinks rapidly for 2 sec
onds and is then a solid/continuous light,
proceed w ith phase 3 to program a rolling
code device .
Phase 3: rolling code programming
• A second person on a ladder who can safely
reach the garage door opener motor is rec
ommended.
11. Locate the "learn" button on the garage
door opener motor (refer to the operating
instructions for the opener, as the loca
t ion of this button may vary by man ufac
turer) .
