NOTICE When cleaning the inside of the rear window, be careful not to damage the heating wires. It is critical to wipe the window from side to side along the defogger heating wires. This system consumes a lot of power, so turn it off when the window has been defogged. Also, do not use the system for a long period when the engine is idling. This may weaken the 12 volt battery, making it dificult to start the engine.
Press the rear defogger and heated door mirror button to defog the rear window and mirrors when the ignition switch is in ON II.
The rear defogger and heated door mirrors automatically switch off after 10–30 minutes depending on the outside temperature. However, if the outside temperature is 32°F (0°C) or below, they do not automatically switch off.

Before Driving
Driving Preparation
Check the following items before you start driving.Check Items Before Getting In the Vehicle
■
Make sure there is no obstruction on the windows, door mirrors, exterior lights,
•
or other parts of the vehicle.
Remove any frost, snow, or ice.
Remove any snow on the roof, as this can slip down and obstruct your field of
vision while driving. When frozen hard, remove ice once it has softened.
When removing ice from around the wheels, be sure not to damage the wheel or wheel components.
Make sure the hood is securely closed.
•
If the hood opens while driving, your front view will be blocked.
Make sure the tires are in good condition.
•
Check air pressures, and check for damage and excessive wear.
Checking and Maintaining Tires P.269
Make sure there is no person or object behind or around the vehicle.
•
There are blind spots from the inside.
Check Items in the Compartment
■
Store or secure all items on board properly.
•
Carrying too much cargo, or improperly storing it, can affect your vehicle’s
handling, stability, stopping distance, and tires, and make it unsafe.
Maximum Load Limit P.194
Do not pile items higher than the seat height.
•
They can block your view and may be thrown forward in the event of sudden
braking.
Check Items Before Getting On the Vehicle
NOTICE If the doors are frozen shut, use warm water around the door edges to melt any ice. Do not try to force them open, as this can damage the rubber trim around the doors. When done, wipe dry to avoid further freezing. Do not pour warm water into the key cylinder. You will be unable to insert key if the hole freezes.
Check Items in the Compartment
The headlight aim is set by the factory, and typically does not need to be adjusted. However, if you regularly carry heavy items in the cargo area, have the aiming readjusted at your dealer or by a qualiied technician.

If you have any animals on board, do not let them move around in the vehicle.
•
They may interfere with driving and a crash could occur.
Securely close and lock both doors and the hatch.
•

Cleaning Exterior Care
Exterior Care
Dust off the vehicle body after you drive. Regularly inspect your vehicle for scratches on painted surfaces. A scratch on a painted surface can result in body rust. If you find a scratch, promptly repair it.Washing the Vehicle
■
Wash the vehicle frequently. Also, make sure to wash the vehicle in the following circumstances:
If driving on roads with road salt.
•
If driving in coastal areas.
•
If tar, soot, bird droppings, insects, or tree sap are stuck to painted surfaces.
•
Using an Automated Vehicle Wash
■
Fold in the door mirrors. Make sure to follow the instructions indicated on the automated vehicle wash.
Using High Pressure Cleaners
■
Keep sufficient distance between the cleaning nozzle and the vehicle body.
•
Take particular care around the windows. Standing too close may cause water to
•
enter the vehicle interior. Do not spray water into the engine compartment.
Washing the Vehicle
Do not spray water directly into the air intake vents or engine compartment. It can cause a malfunction. Do not spray water onto the fuel ill door directly. A high-pressure spray may cause it to open.
