Unlocking and locking
42The safe securing system along with the anti-theft alarm system* are, however, deac- tivated during these 30 seconds. When the vehicle is unlocked or locked, the interior lights in the door contact are auto- matically switched on or off. Display of the locking The turn signal lights flash once to confir
m that the vehicle has been correctly locked.
If the vehicle is locked by pr
essing the button and some doors or the boot lid are
not closed, the turn signal lights flash only after closing.
WARNING
If the vehicle is locked from the outside and the safe securing system is acti-vated, there must not be any person in the vehicle as it is then not possible to open either a door or a window from the inside. The locked doors make it more difficult for rescuers to get into th
e vehicle in an emergency - hazard!
Note
Operate the radio remote control only when
the doors and boot lid are closed and
you have visual contact with the vehicle.
Once in the vehicle, you must not press the lock button
of the master key before
inserting the key into the ignition lock in
order to avoid the vehicle being inadvertently
locked and the anti-theft alarm system* being switched on. Should this happen, press the unlock button
of the master key.
Syncronisation of the remote controlIf the vehicle cannot be unlocked by actuatin
g the remote control system then it is
possible that the code in the key and the co
ntrol unit in the vehicle are no longer
synchronised. This can occur when the buttons on the radio-operated key are actuated a number of times outside of the operative
range of the equipment or the battery on
the remote control was replaced. This means it is necessary to
synchronise the code as follows:
press any button on the remote control;
pressing of the button means that the door will unlock with the key within 1
minute.Anti-theft alarm system*DescriptionThe anti-theft alarm system increases the level of protection against people seeking to break into the vehicle. The system triggers audible and visual warning signals if an attempt is made to break into the vehicle. How is the alarm
system activated?
The anti-theft alarm system is activated au
tomatically when the
unlocked vehicle is
locked with the key inserted in the driver's
door or with the remote control key. It is
activated 30 seconds after locking the door. How is the alarm system deactivated? The anti-theft alarm system is deactivated if
the vehicle is unlocked by only using the
radio remote control. The anti-theft alarm system is reactivated if the vehicle is not opened within 30 seconds after transmitting the radio signal. Once you unlock the vehicle by inserting the ke
y into the driver door you then have to
insert the key into the ignition lock and sw
itch the ignition on within 15 seconds after
opening the door in order to deactivate the anti-theft alarm system. The
alarm will be
triggered
if you do
not switch on
the ignition within 15 seconds.
When is the alarm triggered? The following security areas of
the locked vehicle are monitored:
bonnet;
boot lid;
doors;
ignition lock;
vehicle interior*

.
The button has two positions for the interior li
ghting at the rear. In the first position, the
interior lighting is switched on permanently, in the second position (after pressing) it is switched via the door contacts.
Note
We recommend having the bulb replaced by a specialist garage.Luggage compartment lightThe lighting comes on automatically when th
e boot lid is opened. If the lid remains
open for more than about 10
minutes, the luggage compartment lighting switches off
automatically.VisibilityRear window heater– You can switch the rear window heater
on or off by pressing the switch

- the indicator light in the switch comes on or goes out.
The rear window heater only operates when the engine is running. The rear wind
ow heater
switches
off automatically after 7 minutes.
If the on-board voltage drops, the rear window
heater is switched off automatically, the
warning light flashes in the button.
For the sake of the environment
As soon as the window is de-iced or free fr
om mist, the heating should be switched off.
The reduced current consumption will have a favourable effect on fuel economy page 149, “Saving electricity”.Sun visorsYou can pull the sun visor for the driver or front passenger out of the fixture and swivel it toward the door in the direction of the arrow
fig. 45
.
The vanity mirrors* in the sun visors are provided with covers. Push the cover in direc- tion of arrow .
WARNING
The sun visors must not be swivelled to the side windows into the deployment area of the head airbags if any objects, su
ch as ball-point pens
etc. are attached
to them. This might result in injuries to the occupants if the head airbag is deployed.

Installing– Press the wire clamps in the direction
of the arrow and place it in its holder.
– Fold the seat cushion back into its original position.PedalsConcerning a secure depressing of the peda
l, you should use only footmats from the
Škoda genuine accessories. Operation of the pedals must not be hindered!
WARNING
Greater pedal distances may be needed when there is a fault in the brake
system.
Do not place any footmats or other additional floor coverings in the area of
the pedals in order to ensure that all the pedals can be fully depressed and are able to return unobstructed to their initial position - risk of accident!
There must be no objects on the floor
which could roll under the pedals. You
would then no longer be able to apply
the brakes, operate the clutch or acceler-
ator - risk of accident!luggage compartmentLoading the luggage compartmentPlease observe the following in the interest of having good handling characteristics of your vehicle: – Distribute the items of luggage as evenly as possible.– Place heavy objects as far forward as possible.– Attach the items of luggage to the
lashing eyes or the fixing net*
page 64.
In the event of an accident, there is such a
high kinetic energy wh
ich is produced by
small and light objects that th
ey can cause severe injuries. The magnitude of the kinetic
energy depends on the speed at which the vehicle is travelling and on the weight of the object. The speed at which the vehicle is trave
lling is in this case the more significant
factor. Example: In the event of a frontal collision at a speed of 50 km/h, an unsecured object with a weight of 4.5 kg produces an en
ergy, which corresponds to 20 times its own
weight. This means that it results in a weight of approx. 90 kg. You can imagine the inju- ries that can occur, if this “bullet” is flyi
ng through the interior compartment and hits
an occupant.
WARNING
Stow the objects in the luggage compartment and attach them to the
lashing eyes.
Loose objects in the passenger compartment can be thrown forward during
a sudden manoeuvre or in case of an accident and can injure the occupants or other oncoming traffic. This risk is still increased, if the objects which are flying around are hit by a deployed airbag. In this case, the objects which are thrown back can injure the occupants - hazard.
Please note that the handling properties of your vehicle may be affected
when transporting heavy objects as a result
of the displacement of the centre of
gravity. The speed and style of driv
ing must be adjusted accordingly.
The items carried in the luggage compartment should be stowed in such a
way that no objects are able to slip fo
rward if there are any sudden driving or
braking manoeuvres underta
ken - risk of injury!
When transporting fastened objects
which are sharp and dangerous in the
luggage compartment enlarged by folding the rear seats forward or removing the rear seats, ensure the safety of th
e passengers transported on the other rear
seats
page 115, “Correct seated position for the occupants on the rear seats”.
If the rear seats next to the folded
forward seat are occupied, ensure
maximum safety, e.g. by placing the goods to be transported in such a way that a folding back of the seat is prevented in case of a rear collision.
Never drive with the boot lid fully open
ed or slightly ajar otherwise exhaust
gases may get into the interior of the vehicle - risk of poisoning!
On no account exceed the permissible
axle loads and the permissible gross
weight of the vehicle - risk of accident!

72– If it is necessary, the position of the bicy
cles in the vehicle can be additionally recti-
fied.
WARNING
When transporting passengers and objects, which require the seats to be
folded forwards, ensure the safety of the passengers being transported.
Place the bicycles in the bicycle carrier in such a position that no collision
between the steering arm and
the rear window can occur.
The roof rack*DescriptionPay attention to the following points if you wish to transport luggage or other items on the roof of your vehicle:
A special roof luggage rack system was de
veloped for the vehicle, that is why you
should only use a roof luggage rack which has been released for use by Škoda Auto.
The base carrier is the basis for a comple
te roof luggage rack system. Separate
additional holders are required for safety reasons for transporting luggage, bikes, surf- boards, skis and boats.
The basic version of the roof luggage rack
system and further components can be
obtained from Škoda original accessories.
Caution
If you use other roof rack systems or if the
roof bars are not properly fitted, then any
damage which may result to your car is no
t covered by the warranty agreements. It is
therefore essential to pay attention to the fitting instructions supplied with the roof luggage rack system.
On models fitted with a power sliding/tilting roof, ensure that the opened
sliding/tilting roof does not strike any items of luggage transported on the roof.
Ensure that the opened boot lid does not collide with the roof load.
For the sake of the environment
The increased aerodynamic drag resu
lts in a higher fuel consumption.
Note
If a roof rail is not fitted onto a vehicle at the works, it is obtainable from a specialist garage which carries out the professional fitting.Attachment pointsInstalling– Insert the attachment points of the roof rack into the mounts of the body so that
the pins of the attachment points grasp into the holes of the body.Note
Pay attention to the information regarding assembly and disassembly in the
attached instructions.
If you have any questions, plea
se contact a specialist garage.
Roof loadDistribute weight evenly over the roof lu
ggage rack system. The maximum permissible
roof load (including roof rack system) of
75 kg
and the maximum
permissible total
weight of the vehicle should not be exceeded.
