opener equipped with ªrolling code protectionº;
you will need to use a ladder to get up to the
garage door opener motor to be able to access
the ªsmart or learnº program button.
1. To begin, push and hold the 2 outerHomeLinkT buttons (to clear the memory)
until the indicator light
sAblinks (after 20
seconds). Release both buttons.
2. Position the end of the hand-held trans- mitter 1 to 3 in (20 to 70 mm) away from
the HomeLink Tsurface. 3. Using both hands, simultaneously push
and hold both the HomeLink Tbutton you
want to program and the hand-held trans-
mitter button.
DO NOT release the buttons until step 4 has
been completed.

4. Hold down both buttons until the indica-tor light on HomeLinkT flashes, changing
from a ªslow blinkº to a ªrapid blinkº.
This could take up to 90 seconds. When
the indicator light blinks rapidly, both
buttons may be released. The rapidly
flashing light indicates successful pro-
gramming. To activate the garage door or
other programmed device, push and hold
the programmed HomeLink Tbutton - re-
leasing when the device begins to acti-
vate.
5. If the indicator light on HomeLinkT blinks
rapidly for two seconds and then turns
solid, HomeLink Thas picked up a ªrolling
codeº garage door opener signal. You will
need to proceed with the next steps to
train HomeLink T, completing the pro-
gramming may require a ladder and an-
other person for convenience.
6. Push and release the program button located on the garage door opener's mo-
tor to activate the ªtraining modeº. This
button is usually located near the an-
tenna wire that hangs down from the
motor. If the wire originates from under a
light lens, you will need to remove the
lens to access the program button.NOTE:
Once you have pushed and released the training
button on the garage door opener's motor and
the ªtraining lightº is lit, you have 30 seconds in
which to perform step 7. For convenience, use
the help of a second person to assist when per-
forming this step.
7. Quickly (within 30 seconds of pushingand releasing the garage door opener
program button) and firmly push and re-
lease the HomeLinkT button you've just
programmed. Push and release the
HomeLinkT button up to three times to
complete the training.
8. Your HomeLink Tbutton should now be
programmed.
To program the remaining HomeLink Tbuttons
for additional door or gate openers, follow
steps 2 through 8 only.
NOTE:
Do not repeat step 1 unless you want to ªclearº
all previously programmed HomeLinkT buttons.

PROGRAMMING HOMELINKT FOR
CANADIAN CUSTOMERS
Prior to 1992, D.O.C. regulations required hand-
held transmitters to stop transmitting after 2
seconds. To program your hand-held transmit-
ter to HomeLinkT, continue to push and hold
the HomeLinkT button (note steps 2 through 4
under ªProgramming HomeLink Tº) while you
push and re-push (ªcycleº) your hand-held
transmitter every 2 seconds until the indicator
light flashes rapidly (indicating successful pro-
gramming).
NOTE:
If programming a garage door opener, etc., it is
advised to unplug the device during the ªcy-
clingº process to prevent possible damage to
the garage door opener components.
OPERATING THE HOMELINKT
UNIVERSAL TRANSCEIVER
HomeLinkT Universal Transceiver (once pro-
grammed) may now be used to activate the
garage door, etc. To operate, simply push the
appropriate programmed HomeLinkT Universal
Transceiver button. The red indicator light will
illuminate while the signal is being transmitted.

PROGRAMMING TROUBLE-DIAGNOSIS
If HomeLinkTdoes not quickly learn the hand-
held transmitter information:
c replace the hand-held transmitter batteries
with new batteries.
c position the hand-held transmitter with its
battery area facing away from the
HomeLinkT surface.
c push and hold both the HomeLink Tand
hand-held transmitter buttons without inter-
ruption.
c position the hand-held transmitter 2 to 5 in
(50 to 127 mm) away from the HomeLink T
surface. Hold the transmitter in that position
for up to 15 seconds. If HomeLinkT is not
programmed within that time, try holding
the transmitter in another position - keeping
the indicator light in view at all times.
If you continue to have programming difficul-
ties, please contact the INFINITI Consumer Af-
fairs Department. The phone numbers are lo-
cated in the Foreword of this Owner's Manual.
CLEARING THE PROGRAMMED
INFORMATION
Individual buttons cannot be cleared, however
to clear all programming, push and hold the two
outside buttons and release when the indicator
light begins to flash (in approximately 20 sec-
onds).
REPROGRAMMING A SINGLE
HOMELINKT BUTTON
To reprogram a HomeLinkT Universal Trans-
ceiver button, complete the following.
1. Push and hold the desired HomeLink T
button. Do notrelease the button until
step 4 has been completed.
2. When the indicator light begins to flash slowly (after 20 seconds), position the
hand-held transmitter 2 to 5 in (50 to 127
mm) away from the HomeLink Tsurface.
3. Push and hold the hand-held transmitter button.
4. The HomeLink Tindicator light will flash,
first slowly and then rapidly. When the
indicator light begins to flash rapidly,
release both buttons.
The HomeLinkT Universal Transceiver button
has now been reprogrammed. The new device
can be activated by pushing the HomeLink Tbutton that was just programmed. This proce-
dure will not affect any other programmed
HomeLinkT
buttons.
IF YOUR VEHICLE IS STOLEN
If your vehicle is stolen, you should change the
codes of any non-rolling code device that has
been programmed into HomeLinkT. Consult the
Owner's Manual of each device or call the
manufacturer or retailer of those devices for
additional information.
When your vehicle is recovered, you will need to
reprogram the HomeLink TUniversal Transceiver
with your new transmitter information.

A key number plate is supplied with your keys.
Record the key number and keep it in a safe
place (such as your wallet), not in the vehicle. If
you lose your keys, see an INFINITI retailer for
duplicates by using the key number. INFINITI
does not record any key numbers so it is very
important to keep track of your key number
plate.
A key number is only necessary when you have
lost all keys and do not have one to duplicate
from. If you still have a key, this key can be
duplicated by an INFINITI retailer.

INTELLIGENT KEY
Your vehicle can only be driven with the Intelli-
gent Keys which are registered to your vehicle's
Intelligent Key system components and INFINITI
Vehicle Immobilizer System components. As
many as 4 Intelligent Keys can be registered
and used with one vehicle. The new keys must
be registered by an INFINITI retailer prior to use
with the Intelligent Key system and INFINITI
Vehicle Immobilizer System of your vehicle.
Since the registration process requires erasing all memory in the Intelligent Key components
when registering new keys, be sure to take all
Intelligent Keys that you have to the INFINITI
retailer.
CAUTION
c
Be sure to carry the Intelligent Key with you
when driving. The Intelligent Key is a preci-
sion device with a built-in transmitter. To
avoid damaging it, please note the
following.
± The Intelligent Key is water resistant; however, wetting may damage the Intelli-
gent Key. If the Intelligent Key gets wet,
immediately wipe until it is completely
dry.
± Do not bend, drop or strike it against an- other object.
± Do not place the Intelligent Key for an extended period in a place where tem-
peratures exceed 140ÉF (60ÉC).
± Do not change or modify the Intelligent Key.
± Do not use a magnet key holder.
± Do not place the Intelligent Key near an electric appliance such as a television
set, personal computer or cellular phone.

± Do not allow the Intelligent Key to comeinto contact with water or salt water, and
do not wash it in a washing machine. This
could affect the system function.
c If an Intelligent Key is lost or stolen, INFINITI
recommends erasing the ID code of that In-
telligent Key. This will prevent the Intelli-
gent Key from unauthorized use to unlock
the vehicle. For information regarding the
erasing procedure, please contact an
INFINITI retailer.
Mechanical key
To remove the mechanical key, release the lock
knob at the back of the Intelligent Key.
To install the mechanical key, firmly insert it
into the Intelligent Key until the lock knob
returns to the lock position.
Use the mechanical key to lock or unlock the
doors, trunk lid, glove box and trunk pass-
through lid, if they are equipped with a key
cylinder.
See ªDOORSº later in this section and ªTRUNK
LIDº later in this section, ªSTORAGEº in the ª2.

CAUTION
Always carry the mechanical key installed in
the Intelligent Key.
VALET HAND-OFF
When you have to leave a key with a valet, give
them the Intelligent Key itself and keep the
mechanical key with you to protect your belong-
ings.
To prevent the glove box and the trunk from
being opened during valet hand-off, follow the
procedures below.
1. Push the trunk release power cancel
switch to the CANCEL side.
2. Remove the mechanical key from the In- telligent Key.
3. Lock the glove box and the trunk pass- through with the mechanical key.
4. Hand the Intelligent Key to the valet, keeping the mechanical key in your
pocket or bag for insertion into the Intel-
ligent Key when you retrieve your vehicle.

WARNING
cAlways have the doors locked while driving.
Along with the use of seat belts, this pro-
vides greater safety in the event of an acci-
dent by helping to prevent persons from be-
ing thrown from the vehicle. This also helps
keep children and others from unintention-
ally opening the doors, and will help keep
out intruders.
c Before opening any door, always look for and
avoid oncoming traffic.
c Do not leave children unattended inside the
vehicle. They could unknowingly activate
switches or controls. Unattended children
could become involved in serious accidents.
LOCKING WITH MECHANICAL KEY
The power door lock system allows you to lock
or unlock all doors simultaneously using the
mechanical key.
c Turning the driver's door key cylinder to the
front of the vehicle
s1will lock all doors.
c Turning the driver's door key cylinder once
to the rear of the vehicle
s2will unlock the
driver's door. After returning the key to the
neutral position
s3, turning it to the rear
again within 5 seconds will unlock all doors.
c You can switch the lock system to the mode
that allows you to open all the doors when
the key is turned once. (See ªHOW TO USE
SETTING BUTTONº in the ª4. Monitor, cli- mate, audio, phone and voice recognition
systemsº section.)
OPENING AND CLOSING WINDOWS
WITH THE MECHANICAL KEY
The driver's door key operation also allows you
to open and close all door windows.
To open the windows, turn the driver's door key
cylinder to the rear of the vehicle for
longer than
1 second . The door is unlocked and the window
keeps opening while turning the key.
This function can also be performed by pushing
and holding the door UNLOCK button of the
Intelligent Key. (See ªHOW TO USE REMOTE
KEYLESS ENTRY FUNCTIONº later in this sec-
tion.)
To close the windows, turn the driver's door key
cylinder to the front of the vehicle for longer
than 1 second . The door is locked and the
window keeps closing while turning the key.

LOCKING WITH INSIDE LOCK KNOB
To lock the door individually, move the inside
lock knob to the lock position
s1then close the
door.
To unlock, move the inside lock knob to the
unlock position
s2.
When locking the door without an Intelligent
Key, be sure not to leave the Intelligent Key
inside the vehicle.
LOCKING WITH POWER DOOR LOCK
SWITCH
Operating the power door lock switch will lock
or unlock all the doors. The switches are lo-
cated on the driver's and front passenger's door
armrests.
To lock the doors, push the power door lock
switch to the lock position
s1with the driver's
or front passenger's door open, then close the
door.
When locking the door this way, be certain not to
leave the Intelligent Key inside the vehicle.
To unlock the doors including the fuel-filler
door, push the power door lock switch to the
unlock position
s2.
Lockout protection
When the power door lock switch (driver or front
passenger) is moved to the lock position with
the Intelligent Key in the port and any door
open, all doors will lock and unlock automati-
cally. With the Intelligent Key left in the vehicle
(not in the Intelligent Key port) and any door
open, all doors will unlock automatically and a
chime will sound after the door is closed.
These functions help to prevent the Intelligent
Key from being accidentally locked inside the
vehicle.
AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS
c All doors will be locked automatically when
the vehicle speed reaches 15 MPH (24 km/h).
c All doors will be unlocked automatically
when the ignition switch is pushed to the
OFF position.
The automatic lock and unlock functions can be
deactivated or activated independently of each
other.
To deactivate or activate the automatic lock or
unlock system, perform the following proce-
dure:
1. Close all doors.
2. Push the ignition switch to the ªONº position.
