O(Off):Press the driver side temperature knob toturn the climate control system off. Outside air stillenters the vehicle, and is directed to the floor. Thisdirection can be changed by pressing the mode button.
The temperature can also be adjusted using eithertemperature knob. Press the up or down arrows on thefan switch, the defrost button, the AUTO button, driver'sside temperature knob, or the air conditioning button toturn the system on when it is off.
Driver and Passenger Side
Temperature Knob
The driver and passenger side temperature knobs areused to adjust the temperature of the air comingthrough the system on the driver or passenger's side ofthe vehicle. The temperature can be adjusted even ifthe system is turned off. This is possible since outsideair always flows through the system as the vehicle ismoving forward unless it is set to recirculation mode.See“Recirculation”later in this section.
Turn the knob clockwise or counterclockwise toincrease or decrease the cabin temperature.The display will show the temperature settingincreasing or decreasing.
Set the passenger temperature setting to match thedriver temperature setting by pressing the passengertemperature knob.
When in defrost mode the passenger temperaturesetting cannot be changed.

Setting the Clock
The navigation system time and the analog clockoperate independently. Changing the time through thenavigation system does not change the time on theanalog clock. SeeAnalog Clockon page 4!20tochange the analog clock time.
To set the time for the navigation system:
1. Press the CONFIG key to enter the configuremenu options, then press the CONFIG keyrepeatedly until the time is selected or touch thetime screen button.
2. Press the Hours and Minutes!(minus) and+ (plus) signs to decrease or to increase the time.

Entering an Address
Enter a destination by inputting the city name first:
1. If the radio is already on with a map disc inserted,skip to Step 5.
2. PressOto turn the system on.

4. A caution may appear. Touch the OK screen buttonto proceed.
5. Press the DEST hard key.

Brightness/Contrast/Mode
Touch this screen button to change the brightness,contrast, and mode of the display.
](Brightness):Touch the + (plus) or!(minus) screenbuttons to increase or decrease the brightness of thescreen.
_(Contrast):Touch the + (plus) or!(minus) screenbuttons to increase or decrease the contrast of thescreen.
Auto (Automatic) :Touch this screen button for thesystem to automatically adjust the screen backgrounddepending on exterior lighting conditions.
Night :Touch this screen button and the system makesthe map background darker.
Day :Touch this screen button and the system makesthe map background brighter.
Setting the Clock

If the system fails to turn on or activate, the StabiliTraklight along with one of the following messages will bedisplayed on the Driver Information Center (DIC):TRACTION CONTROL OFF, SERVICE TRACTIONCONTROL, STABILITRAK OFF, SERVICESTABILITRAK. If these DIC messages appear, makesure the StabiliTrak system has not been turned offusing the StabiliTrak on/off button. Then turn thesteering wheel clockwise from the nine o'clock positionto the three o'clock position. If this clears themessage(s), the vehicle does not need servicing.If this does not clear the message(s), then turn thevehicle off, wait 15 seconds, and then turn it back onagain to reset the system. If any of these messagesstill appear on the Driver Information Center (DIC), thevehicle should be taken in for service. For moreinformation on the DIC messages, seeDriverInformation Center (DIC) on page 4!41.
The StabiliTrak light willflash on the instrumentpanel cluster when thesystem is both onand activated.
The system may be heard or felt while it is working; thisis normal.
The traction controldisable button is locatedon the instrument panelbelow the climatecontrols.
The traction control part of StabiliTrak can be turnedoff by pressing and releasing the StabiliTrak button ifboth systems (traction control and StabiliTrak) werepreviously on. To disable both traction control andStabiliTrak, press and hold the button for five seconds.
Traction control and StabiliTrak can be turned on bypressing and releasing the StabiliTrak button if notautomatically shut off for any other reason.
When the TCS or StabiliTrak system is turned off,the StabiliTrak light and the appropriate TCS off orStabiliTrak off message will be displayed on the DIC towarn the driver. The vehicle will still have brake-tractioncontrol when traction control is off, but will not be ableto use the engine speed management system. See“Traction Control Operation”next for more information.
When the traction control system has been turned off,system noises may still be heard as a result of thebrake-traction control coming on.

.If the engine has stopped running, you need torestart it. With the brake pedal pressed and theparking brake still applied, shift the transmissionto P (Park) and restart the engine. Then, shift toR (Reverse), release the parking brake, andslowly back down the hill as straight as possiblein R (Reverse).
.While backing down the hill, put your left handon the steering wheel at the 12 o'clock positionso you can tell if the wheels are straight and canmaneuver as you back down. It is best to backdown the hill with the wheels straight rather thanin the left or right direction. Turning the wheel toofar to the left or right will increase the possibilityof a rollover.
Things not to do if the vehicle stalls, or is about to stall,when going up a hill:
.Never attempt to prevent a stall by shifting intoN (Neutral) to rev-up the engine and regain forwardmomentum. This will not work. The vehicle can rollbackward very quickly and could go out of control.
.Never try to turn around if about to stall whengoing up a hill. If the hill is steep enough to stallthe vehicle, it is steep enough to cause it to rollover. If you cannot make it up the hill, back straightdown the hill.
If, after stalling, you try to back down the hill and decideyou just cannot do it, set the parking brake, put yourtransmission in P (Park), and turn off the engine. Leavethe vehicle and go get some help. Exit on the uphill sideand stay clear of the path the vehicle would take if itrolled downhill.
Driving Downhill
When off-roading takes you downhill, consider:
.How steep is the downhill? Will I be able tomaintain vehicle control?
.What is the surface like? Smooth? Rough?Slippery? Hard-packed dirt? Gravel?
.Are there hidden surface obstacles? Ruts? Logs?Boulders?
.What is at the bottom of the hill? Is there a hiddencreek bank or even a river bottom with largerocks?
If you decide you can go down a hill safely, try to keepthe vehicle headed straight down. Use a low gear soengine drag can help the brakes so they do not have todo all the work. Descend slowly, keeping the vehicleunder control at all times.

Getting under a vehicle when it is jacked up is
dangerous. If the vehicle slips off the jack, you
could be badly injured or killed. Never get under a
vehicle when it is supported only by a jack.
{WARNING:
Raising your vehicle with the jack improperly
positioned can damage the vehicle and even
make the vehicle fall. To help avoid personal
injury and vehicle damage, be sure to fit the jack
lift head into the proper location before raising the
vehicle.
4. Position the jack under the vehicle as shown.
Front Position
Front Tire Flat:If the flat tire is on a front tire ofthe vehicle, you will need to use the jack handleand only one jack handle extension. Attach thewheel wrench to the jack handle extension. Attachthe jack handle to the jack (A). Position the jack onthe frame behind the flat tire where the framesections overlap. Turn the wheel wrench clockwiseto raise the vehicle. Raise the vehicle far enoughoff the ground so there is enough room for thespare tire to clear the ground.

10. Turn the wheel wrench counterclockwiseto lower the vehicle. Lower the jackcompletely.
{WARNING:
Wheel nuts that are improperly or incorrectly
tightened can cause the wheels to become loose
or come off. The wheel nuts should be tightened
with a torque wrench to the proper torque
specification after replacing. Follow the torque
specification supplied by the aftermarket
manufacturer when using accessory locking wheel
nuts. SeeCapacities and Specificationson
page 7!115for original equipment wheel nut
torque specifications.
Notice:Improperly tightened wheel nuts can leadto brake pulsation and rotor damage. To avoidexpensive brake repairs, evenly tighten the wheelnuts in the proper sequence and to the propertorque specification. SeeCapacities andSpecificationson page 7!115for the wheel nuttorque specification.
11. Tighten the nuts firmlyin a crisscrosssequence as shownby turning the wheelwrench clockwise.
When you reinstall the regular wheel and tire, you mustalso reinstall the center cap. Line the tab on the back ofthe cap with the slot in the wheel. Place the cap on thewheel and press until it snaps into place.
