Installing the DVD Map Disc
When a DVD Map Disc is installed, noise from the discmay occur, this is normal system operation.
The navigation system in this vehicle uses a DVD tostore map information. When the system loads datafrom the disc, you may hear a very slight buzz soundfrom the navigation system. The sound is similar to thatof a CD player seeking through different tracks. This isnormal operation and may occur more frequently withthe use of XM NavTraffic.
Your dealer/retailer may have installed the map DVD.If the map DVD was not installed, do the following toload it:
1. Turn the ignition on.
2. Press theO(power) knob to turn the navigation
system on or press the NAV, DEST, or MENU hardkeys. If the MENU hard key is selected, press andhold until the NAV screen is active, or select theNAV tab manually.
3. Load the map DVD partway into the slot locatedjust below the screen. The system will pull it in.
4. Touch the OK screen button to agree to theCaution screen, if it appears. If the map is in splitscreen mode, you must push the NAV tab button toget the full map screen.
DVD Map Disc Messages
If Disc Read Error appears on the display and/orthe map disc comes out, it could be for one of thefollowing reasons:
.If the map disc was installed into the CD slot.See“Installing the DVD Map Disc”previously.
.It is very hot, when the temperature returns tonormal, the map disc should play.
.You are driving on a very rough road. When theroad becomes smoother, the map disc should play.
.The map disc is dirty, scratched, wet,or upside down.
If any error occurs repeatedly or if an error cannot becorrected, contact your dealer/retailer.
Ejecting the DVD Map Disc
Z(DVD Map Disc Eject):Press twice to eject theDVD map disc. This button is located next to theupper disc slot.

Setting the Tone
TREBLE :Touch the plus (+) or minus (!) sign toincrease or decrease the treble. If a station is weak orhas static, decrease the treble.
MID (Midrange) :Touch the plus (+) or minus (!) signto increase or decrease the midrange.
BASS :Touch the plus (+) or minus (!) sign to increaseor decrease the bass.
Adjusting the Speakers
L/R (Left/Right) (Balance) :To adjust the balancebetween the left and the right speakers, touch and holdthe L or R screen buttons.
Front/Rear (Fade) :To adjust the fade between thefront and the rear speakers, touch and hold the Front orRear screen buttons.
Digital Signal Processing (DSP)
The system has Digital Signal Processing (DSP).DSP provides a choice of four different listeningexperiences. DSP can be used while listening to theaudio system. Not all DSP modes are available for allsource types. The type of DSP selected is displayed onthe status line.
Select from the following DSP settings:
Normal :Adjusts the audio for normal mode. Thisprovides the best sound quality for all seating positions.
Surround (Centerpoint®):Enables Bose Centerpointsignal processing that produces a surround soundlistening experience from a CD or XM stereo digitalaudio source. Centerpoint delivers five independentaudio channels from conventional two channel stereorecordings (not available for AM or FM).
Driver :Adjusts the audio to give the driver the bestpossible sound quality.
Rear :Adjusts the audio to give the rear seat occupantsthe best possible sound quality.
2 CH. (Channel) :Enhances surround sound.
5.1 CH. (Channel) :Gives a full affect of surroundsound listening. This button is only available whenplaying DVD video and DVD audio discs that support5.1 audio and the RSA is off.

Storing Voice Tags
From the address book entry information page, pressthe Add Voice tag screen button. The system responds“Name Please?”and you will have four seconds torecord a name. The system asks for confirmation of thename before saving it as a voice tag.

Navigation Help :This command instructs the systemto assist with navigation commands.
Display Commands
Use the following display commands to set thedisplay mode.
Display [set] day [mode] :Sets the display todaytime mode.
Display [set] night [mode] :Sets the display tonight mode.
Display [set] auto [mode] :Sets the display toautomatic mode. The system changes between day andnight mode automatically.
System help :Instructs the system to assist withdisplay commands.
Radio Commands
The following are radio commands that can beaccessed by clearly stating the commands exactly asthey are written.
Radio [band] [select] AM, radio [band] [select] FM,radio [band] [select] XM, radio [band] [select]satellite :Instructs the system to go to either theAM, FM, or XM (if equipped).
Radio [select] (frequency) AM, radio [select](frequency) FM :Instructs the system to go to aspecific frequency on either AM or FM.
Radio [select] (channel) XM, radio [select] (channel)satellite :Instructs the system to go to a specificchannel on the XM™band (if equipped).
Radio help :Instructs the system to assist with radiocommands.

It is recommended to leave the system on for normaldriving conditions, but it may be necessary to turn thesystem off if the vehicle is stuck in sand, mud, ice orsnow, and you want to“rock”the vehicle to attempt tofree it. It may also be necessary to turn off the systemwhen driving in extreme off-road conditions where highwheel spin is required. SeeIf Your Vehicle is Stuck inSand, Mud, Ice, or Snow on page 6!30.
Traction Control Operation
The traction control system is part of the StabiliTraksystem. Traction control limits wheel spin by reducingengine power to the wheels (engine speedmanagement) and by applying brakes to each individualwheel (brake-traction control) as necessary.
The traction control system is enabled automaticallywhen the vehicle is started. It will activate and theStabiliTrak light will flash if it senses that any of thewheels are spinning or beginning to lose tractionwhile driving. If traction control is turned off, only thebrake-traction control portion of traction control willwork. The engine speed management will be disabled.In this mode, engine power is not reduced automaticallyand the driven wheels can spin more freely. This cancause the brake-traction control to activate constantly.
Notice:If the wheel(s) of one axle is allowed to spinexcessively while the StabiliTrak, ABS and brakewarning lights and any relevant DIC messages aredisplayed, the transfer case could be damaged.The repairs would not be covered by the vehiclewarranty. Reduce engine power and do not spin thewheel(s) excessively while these lights andmessages are displayed.
The traction control system may activate on dry orrough roads or under conditions such as heavyacceleration while turning or abrupt upshifts/downshiftsof the transmission. When this happens, a reduction inacceleration may be noticed, or a noise or vibration maybe heard. This is normal.
If cruise control is being used when the systemactivates, the StabiliTrak light will flash and cruisecontrol will automatically disengage. Cruise control maybe reengaged when road conditions allow. SeeCruiseControl on page 4!8.
StabiliTrak may also turn off automatically if itdetermines that a problem exists with the system.If the problem does not clear itself after restarting thevehicle, see your dealer/retailer for service.

The system is activated when the ignition key
is turned to RUN and will automatically adjust
vehicle height thereafter. The system may exhaust
(lower vehicle height) for up to 10 minutes after
the ignition key has been turned to LOCK. You
may hear the air compressor operating when the
height is being adjusted.
If a weight-distributing hitch is being used, it is
recommended to allow the shocks to inflate,
thereby leveling the vehicle prior to adjusting the
height. See“Weight distributing Hitches and
Weight Carrying Hitches”underTowing a Trailer
on page 6!42.
Towing
Towing Your Vehicle
To avoid damage, the disabled vehicle should betowed with all four wheels off the ground. Consult yourdealer/retailer or a professional towing service if thedisabled vehicle must be towed. SeeRoadside Serviceo n p a g e 9!8.
To tow the vehicle behind another vehicle forrecreational purposes (such as behind a motorhome),see“Recreational Vehicle Towing”following.
Recreational Vehicle Towing

Recreational vehicle towing means towing the vehiclebehind another vehicle–such as behind a motorhome.The two most common types of recreational vehicletowing are known as“dinghy towing”(towing the vehiclewith all four wheels on the ground) and“dolly towing”(towing the vehicle with two wheels on the ground andtwo wheels up on a device known as a“dolly”).
Here are some important things to consider beforerecreational vehicle towing:
.What is the towing capacity of the towing vehicle?Be sure to read the tow vehicle manufacturer'srecommendations.
.What is the distance that will be travelled? Somevehicles have restrictions on how far and how longthey can tow.
.Is the proper towing equipment going to be used?See your dealer/retailer or trailering professionalfor additional advice and equipmentrecommendations.
.Is the vehicle ready to be towed? Just as preparingthe vehicle for a long trip, make sure the vehicle isprepared to be towed. SeeBefore Leaving on aLong Trip on page 6!26.

Autoride®
With this feature, improved vehicle ride and handling isprovided under a variety of passenger and loadingconditions.
The system is fully automatic and uses a computercontroller to continuously monitor vehicle speed, wheelto body position, lift/dive and steering position of thevehicle. The controller then sends signals to each shockabsorber to independently adjust the damping level toprovide the optimum vehicle ride.
Autoride also interacts with the tow/haul mode that,when activated, will provide additional control of theshock absorbers. This additional control results in betterride and handling characteristics when the vehicle isloaded or towing a trailer. See“Tow/Haul Mode”underTowing a Traileron page 6!42for more information.
Towing a Trailer

The driver can lose control when pulling a trailer if
the correct equipment is not used or the vehicle is
not driven properly. For example, if the trailer is
too heavy, the brakes may not work well—or
even at all. The driver and passengers could be
seriously injured. The vehicle may also be
damaged; the resulting repairs would not be
covered by the vehicle warranty. Pull a trailer only
if all the steps in this section have been followed.
Ask your dealer/retailer for advice and information
about towing a trailer with the vehicle.
Notice:Pulling a trailer improperly can damage thevehicle and result in costly repairs not covered bythe vehicle warranty. To pull a trailer correctly,follow the advice in this section and see yourdealer/retailer for important information abouttowing a trailer with the vehicle.

Tow/Haul Mode
Pressing this button at the end of the shift lever turns onand off the tow/haul mode.
This indicator light on theinstrument panel clustercomes on when thetow/haul mode is on.
Tow/Haul is a feature that assists when pulling a heavytrailer or a large or heavy load. SeeTow/Haul Modeonpage 3!36for more information.
Tow/Haul is designed to be most effective when thevehicle and trailer combined weight is at least75 percent of the vehicle's Gross Combined WeightRating (GCWR). See“Weight of the Trailer”earlier inthe section. Tow/Haul is most useful under the followingdriving conditions:
.When pulling a heavy trailer or a large or heavyload through rolling terrain.
.When pulling a heavy trailer or a large or heavyload in stop and go traffic.
.When pulling a heavy trailer or a large or heavyload in busy parking lots where improved lowspeed control of the vehicle is desired.
Operating the vehicle in Tow/Haul when lightly loadedor with no trailer at all will not cause damage. However,there is no benefit to the selection of Tow/Haul when thevehicle is unloaded. Such a selection when unloadedmay result in unpleasant engine and transmissiondriving characteristics and reduced fuel economy.Tow/Haul is recommended only when pulling a heavytrailer or a large or heavy load.

Trailer Wiring Harness
Heavy-Duty Trailer Wiring Harness Package
The vehicle has a seven-pin universal heavy-duty trailerconnector attached to the rear bumper beam next to theintegrated trailer hitch.
The seven-wire harness contains the followingtrailer circuits:
.Yellow: Left Stop/Turn Signal
.Dark Green: Right Stop/Turn Signal
.Brown: Taillamps
.White: Ground
.Light Green: Back-up Lamps
.Red: Battery Feed*
.Dark Blue: Trailer Brake*
*The fuses for these two circuits are installed in theunderhood electrical center, but the wires are notconnected. They should be connected by yourdealer/retailer or a qualified service center.
If charging a remote (non-vehicle) battery, press thetow/haul mode button located at the end of the shiftlever. This will boost the vehicle system voltage andproperly charge the battery. If the trailer is too light fortow/haul mode, turn on the headlamps as a second wayto boost the vehicle system and charge the battery.
