An additional bulb in the headlight prov ides a corner ing light @ in
addition to the low beam ©~ fig. 51. Adapt ive Light is switched on
and off automatically depending on dr iv ing cond itions.
When you activate the turn signal lever, the Adaptive Light for the
same s ide is sw itched on. Please note that the t urn signal lever must
engage.
Adaptive Light is not switched on if you on ly move the turn signal
lever to the point of resistance to s ignal a lane change~

When d riving arou nd bends, Adaptive Light is con tro lled according to
steering wheel angle.
• It is switched on in tight corners.
• It is not switched on in long, open bends .

cont rolled depending on driving speed and the steer ing w heel angle.

• T he system works up to a speed of abo ut 4 3 mph (70 km/h). If the
speed is higher, it is not activated .
• Adaptive Light ( in curves) func tions at a speed of abo ut 6 mph
(10 km/h) and is deactivated at speeds below abo ut 4 mph
(6 km/h). •
Emergency flasher ~
The emergency flasher makes other motorists aware that
you or your vehicle ore in on emergency situation.

When the emergency flasher is on, all four turn signals blink at the

General recommendations
Why is your seat adjustment so important?
The safety belts and the airbag system can only provide
maximum protection if the front seats are correctly
adjusted.
Th ere a re va rious ways of ad justing t he fro nt seats to provide safe and
comfor ta ble suppo rt for th e dr iver and the front passenger . Ad just
your sea t properly so that :
• you can eas ily and quickly reach all the switches and controls in t he
in st rumen t pa nel
• your body is prope rly s upported th us reducing phys ica l stress and
f a tigue
• the safety be lts and airbag system can offe r maxim um protection

your sea ts .

L1}. WARNING
Incor rect seat ing position of the driver and all othe r passengers
can result in serious personal injury .
• Always keep your feet on the floor when the vehicle is in
motion -never put your feet on top of the instrument panel , out
of the window or on top of the seat cushion . This applies especially
to the passengers. If your seating position is incorrect, you
increase the risk of injury in the case of sudden braking or an acci-

dent. If the airbag inflates and the seating position is incorrect,
this could result in personal injury or even death.
• It is important for both the driver and front passenger to keep
a distance of at least 10 inches (25 cm) between themselves and
the steering wheel and /or instrument panel. If you 're sitting any
closer than this , the airbag system cannot protect you properly. In
addition, the front seats and head restraints must be adjusted to
your body height so that they can give you maximum protection.
• Always try to keep as much distance as possible between your­
self and the steering wheel or instrument panel.
• Do not adjust the dr iver's or front passenger's seat while the
vehicle i s moving. Your seat may move unexpectedly , causing
sudden loss of vehicle control and personal injury. If you adjust
your seat while the vehicle is moving , you are out of position.•
Driver's seat
Th e correct seat p osition is important for safe and
re lax ed driving.
W e recomme nd that you a djust t he dr ive r's sea t in t he
follow ing ma nne r:
- Adjust t he seat i n fore and aft d irect ion so t hat you can
easily p ush t he peda ls to the floor whi le keep ing your
k n ees sli ghtly bent =>

- Adjust t he seatback so t hat wh en you s it with you r bac k
agai nst t he seatbac k, you can st ill g rasp t he top of t he

Adjusting the angle of the seat back

in the direction of the arrow to adjust the angle of the seat

Adjusting the angle of upper seatback section

& WARNING
• Never adjust the seatback while the vehicle i s moving . If you
adju st your seat while the vehicl e is moving , you are out of po si­
t ion. Neve r adjust the seatback when th e vehicle is moving .
• To reduce the ri sk of injury in the ca se of sudden brak ing or
ac cident , front pa sseng ers must ne ver ride in a moving vehicle
with th e seatba ck reclined . Safe ty belt s and the airbag sy stem
onl y offer m aximum prote ctio n when the se atback is upr ight and
the safety belt s are properly po sitioned on the bod y. The more the
seatback is reclined , the gr eater the ris k of personal inju ry from an
incorre ct seating po sition and impr operly p osition ed safe ty
belts .•
Lumbar support
The lumbar support can be adjusted to fit the natural
curva ture of the occupant's spine .

increase the curvature.

The lumbar support is part icularly effective in support ing the nat ura l
curvatu re of the spin e so that the seating position is mo re comfort-

The steering wheel position can be adjusted for height
and reach.

Th e stee ring wheel ca n be adjusted even when the ign ition is turned
Off . For veh icles with seat memory, the individual pos it io ns for the
steering wheel can be stored along with the seat pos ition.
& WARNING
Improper use of steering wheel adjustment and improper seating
position can cause serious personal injury .
• Adjust the steering wheel column only when the vehicle is not
moving to prevent loss of vehicle control. • Adjust the driver 's seat or steering wheel so that th ere is a
minimum of 10 inches (25 cm ) between your chest and the
steering wheel~
page 188, fig. 198. If you cannot maintain this
m inimum distance, the airbag system cannot protect you prop ­
erly.
• If physical l imitations p revent you from sitting 10 inches (25
c m ) or more from the steering wheel, che ck with your authorized
Audi dealer to see if adapt ive equipment is a vailable.
• If the steering wheel is aligned with your face, the supp le­
mental dri ver 's ai rbag cannot prov ide as much protection in an
accident . Always make sure that the steering wheel i s aligned with
your chest.
• Always hold the steering wheel with your hands at the 9 o 'clock
and 3 o 'clock posit ions to reduce the risk of personal injury if the
driver's airbag deploys .
• Never hold the steering wheel at the 12 o'clock position or with
your hands inside the steering wheel rim or on the steering wheel
hub. Holding the stee ring wheel the wrong way can cause serious

Easy entry feature
The easy entry feature makes it easier to enter and exit
the vehicle by autom atically adjusting the steering
w heel .
Press the button @=> page 11 7, fig. 130 to turn t he easy
en try featur e on or off.
W hen the easy entry fea ture is tu rned on ( button depre ssed) , the
steering wheel moves up to the parked position w hen the ignition is
tu rned off. After you ente r the vehicle, the steerin g wheel moves to
the stored pos ition as soon as you turn on the ign ition .•

ti on . This automatically unloc ks the steer ing co lumn lock. When the
ig nition key is removed, the steer ing colum n lock is a utomat ically

The engine starts w ith the key in this position . Major electr ical loads

& WARNING
• Never remove the key from the ignition lock while the vehicle
is moving . The steering wheel will lock , causing loss of control.
• If you have to leave your vehicle, even for just a minute, always
remove the ignition key and take it with you. This is especially
important if you are going to leave children unattended in the
vehicle. The children could start the engine or use other vehicle
controls . Unsupervised use of vehicle controls (for example, power
windows ) can cause serious personal injuries.

• Always make sure that there are at least 10 inches (25 cm)
between the front passenger's breastbone and the instrument
panel.
• Always make sure that there are at least 4 inches (10 cm)
between the front passenger's knees and the lower part of the
instrument panel.
• Each passenger must always sit on a seat of their own and properly fasten and wear the safety belt belonging to that seat.
• Before driving, always adjust the front passenger seat and
head restraint properly.
• Always keep your feet on the floor in front of the seat. Never
rest them on the seat, instrument panel, out of the window, etc.
The airbag system and safety belt will not be able to protect you
properly and can even increase the risk of injury in a crash.
• Never drive with the backrest reclined or tilted far back! The
farther the backrests are tilted back, the greater the risk of injury due to incorrect positioning of the safety belt and improper
seating position.
• Children must always ride in child seats ~

Proper seating positions for passengers in
rear seats
Rear seat passengers must sit upright with both feet on
the floor consistent with their physical size and be prop­
erly restrained whenever the vehicle is in use.
To reduce the risk of injury caused by an incorrect seating
position in the event of a sudden braking maneuver or an
accident, your passengers on the rear bench seat must
always observe the following : -
Adjust the head restraint so that the upper edge is as even
with the top of your head as possible but no lower than eye
level=>
page 191.
- Keep both feet flat in the footwell in front of the rear seat.
- Fasten and wear safety belts properly=>
page 201.
- Make sure that children are always properly restrained in a
child restraint that is appropriate for their size and age
=>
page 2 31.
& WARNING
Passengers who are improperly seated on the rear seat can be seri·
ously injured in a crash.
• Each passenger must always sit on a seat of their own and
properly fasten and wear the safety belt belonging to that seat.
• Safety belts only offer maximum protection when the safety
belts are properly positioned on the body and securely latched. By
not sitting upright, a rear seat passenger increases the risk of
personal injury from improperly positioned safety belts!
• Always adjust the head restraint properly so that it can give
maximum protection. •
