Airbag system I
This warning/indicator light monitors the airbag and the
tensioner systems.
The I warn ing light illuminates for a few seconds each time you
switch on the ign ition.
If the
I warn ing lig ht does not go out, or if it illuminates w hile you
are d riving, or if it s tar ts to blink, the n t here is a mal func tion some
where in the system . If the light does not illum inate when you switch
on t he ignition, this also means there is a malfunction.
& WARNING
If you have a malfunction in the airbag sy stem, c ontact your
authorized Audi dealer immediately. Otherwise the airbag or the
belt tensioner ma y not work properly in an accident. •

The ind icator light shows that the system is ready to use . A warning

Significant Loss of air pressure 1 ~

s ign ific ant loss of air pressure.
The (I) warn ing/ indicator light illuminates when you swi tch on the
ignitio n an d m ust g o ou t aft er the e ngine has started.
If the , symbo l appea rs , p ressure is too low in at least on e tire .

Driver information display
The current speed appears on the display. The speed is displayed in 1 mph (US model) or 1 km/h (Canadian model) increments .
You can sw itch the display from miles to kilometers and vice versa via
the MMI. •
Open door or trunk lid warning
The pictogram alerts you when doors or the rear lid have
been left open.

With the ignition switched on, the open door or rear lid warning illu
minates when at least
one door or the hood or the trunk lid is not
closed. The symbol also shows you
which door(s) or lid is not closed.
In the illustration ::::> fig. 12 it is the driver's door, the left rear door
and the rear lid. As soon as all the doors, the hood, the rear lid and
the fuel filler cap are properly closed, the door and rear lid wa rning
turns off and the Driver Information System functions selected are
displayed again. •
Defective light bulb warning
The defective light bulb warning tells you when a vehicle
light bulb has become defective .

The defective light bulb warning monitors the function of the light
bulbs. If a defective light bulb is detected, or if a lig ht bu lb has
burned out, a yellow symbol appears as well as a pictogram in which
the defective light bulb is shown ::::> fig . 13 In the case of certa in bulb
failures (e .g . failure of the rear fog lamp), an addit ional symbol is
displayed to the left or right of the pictogram of the vehicle.
Defective brake Light
(USA models)/ (Canada models)
If the symbol illuminates , a brake light has failed . The burned out
light is shown in the pictogram.
Defective bulb
If this symbo l illuminates, a turn signal (front or rear), a headlight,
the backup light, a fog light or a rear fog light has fai led. The burned
out light is shown in the pictogram.
& WARNING
• Light bulbs are pressurized and could explode while they are
being changed causing serious personal injury . .,_
Battery operation in the master key is monitored by a check light . The
check light flashes when one of the buttons on the master key is
pressed. If the check light does not flash, the battery is dead and has
to be replaced .
In add ition , when the battery is dead the ..: symbol appears in the
instrument cluster display as well as the message:
Please change key battery
We recommend having the battery changed by an Audi Dealer .•
Electronic immobilizer
The immobilizer helps to prevent unauthorized use of
your vehicle.
A computer chip inside your key automatically deactivates the elec
tronic immobilizer when you insert the key in the ignition lock, or on
vehicles with Convenience key*, when the key is inside the vehicle.
When you remove the key from the ign it ion lock , or on veh icles with
Convenience key, when you remove the key from the vehicle, the elec
tronic immobilizer is automatically activated once again.
& WARNING
Always take the key with you when you leave the vehicle. The key
can disarm the electronic engine immobilizer and permit an unau
thorized person to start the engine and enable operation of the
vehicle systems such as power window or power sunroof leading
to serious personal injury .
(I) Tips
• The immobilizer prevents unauthorized use of the vehicle. The
vehicle cannot be sta rted if an unauthorized key is used. The vehicle
may not start if another radio device such as a key for another vehicle
or a transponder is located on the key ring.

Power locking system
General description
The power locking system locks or unlocks all doors and
the rear lid simultaneously.
The power locking system in your vehicle incorporates the following
functions:
• Central locking function
• Selective unlock feature~

• Anti -theft alarm system ~ page 52
All the doors and the rear lid are locked by the central locking system
when you lock the veh icle. You can set whether generally only the
dr iver's door or all doors and the rear lid should be unlocked when you
open the vehicle in the MMI menu

Unlocking the vehicle
You can unlock the vehicle from outside either by using the remote
control
or by turning the key inside the driver's door lock. When you
unlock your vehicle:
• The anti-theft alarm system is deactivated briefly .
• The vehicle interior lights illuminate for approximately 30
seconds.
• All turn signal lights will flash twice when the car is unlocked .
• After un locking the vehicle, you have 60 seconds to open a door or
the rear lid. After 60 seconds, the vehicle automatically locks and the
anti-theft alarm system activates again. ..,

• In orde r to make sure the locking func tion is wor king , you shou ld
always keep your eye on the vehicle to ma ke sure it is properly locked .

you may unintentionally lock the vehicle, and then yo u would set off
the ant i-theft alarm when you try to start the eng ine or open a door.

An additional bulb in the headlight prov ides a corner ing light @ in

When you activate the turn signal lever, the Adaptive Light for the
same s ide is sw itched on. Please note that the t urn signal lever must
engage.

(10 km/h) and is deactivated at speeds below abo ut 4 mph
(6 km/h). •
Emergency flasher ~
The emergency flasher makes other motorists aware that
you or your vehicle ore in on emergency situation.

You should t urn on the emergency flashe rs when:
• you are the last vehicle standing in a traffic jam so that any other
vehicles coming can see you, or when
• your vehicle has broken down or yo u are in an emergency situa
tion, or when
• your vehicle is being towed by a tow truck or if you are towing
another vehicle behind you. •

The lever on the left side of the steering column is used to
operate the turn signals and the high beam as well as the
headlight flasher.

to use the turn signa ls for as long as you need them, for

- Move the lever (up or down) just to the point of resistance
and then release it right away to make the turn signals
blink
three times . You can use this feature for example
when changing lanes on highways.
High beam [D
- Push t he lever forward ® to switch on the high beam .
- Pull the lever back towards you to switch off the high
beam .
Headlight flasher [D
Pull the lever toward the steeri ng w heel © to use t he
headlight flasher.

• The turn signals only work with the ignition turned on. T he indi
