Snow chains
Snow chains may be fitte d only to the fro nt w heels, and only to
certain tire sizes. Ask your authorized Audi dealer on which tire sizes
snow chains can be used.
If you a re goi ng to use snow c ha ins, then you must insta ll them on the
front wheels at least.
T he snow c hain s m ust have low -profile links and m ust not be thicker
than 0.53 inc h (13 .5 mm), including the lock. Remove wheel center covers a
nd trim d iscs before putting snow
c hains on you r veh icle =>

Using the wrong snow chain s for your vehicle or installing them
incorrectly can increase the risk of loss of control leading to

• Snow chains are available in different sizes. Always make sure
to follow the instru ction s provided by the snow chain manufac ­
tur er.
• When driving with snow chains never drive fa ster than the
speed permitted for your specific snow chains .
• Always observe local regulations.

In order to minimize the occurrence of impact damage to the tires of
your vehicle, we recommend that you observe the following precau­
tions:
• Always maintain recommended inflation pressures. Check your
tire pressure every 2,000 miles (3 ,000 km) and add air if necessary.
• Drive carefully on roads with potholes, deep gullies or ridges. The
impact from driving through or over such obstacles can damage your
tires. Impact with a curb may also cause damage to your tires.
• After any impact, immediately inspect your tires or have them
inspected by the nearest authorized Audi dealer. Replace a damaged
tire as soon as possible .
• Inspect your tires every 2,000 miles (3,000 km) for damage and
wear . Damage is not always easy to see . Damage can lead to loss of
air and underinflation, which could eventually cause tire failure. If
you believe that a tire may have been damaged, replace the tire as
soon as possible.
• These tires may wear more quickly than others .
• Please also remember that, while these tires deliver responsive
handling, they may ride less comfortably and make more noise than
other choices.
Reduced performance in winter/cold season
conditions
All tires are designed for certain purposes. The low aspect ratio, ultra high performance tires originally installed on your vehicle are
intended for maximum dry and wet road performance and handling.
They are not suitable for cold, snowy or icy weather conditions. If you
drive under those circumstances, you should equip your vehicle with
all-season or winter tires, which offer better traction under those
conditions . We suggest you use the recommended snow or all-season
tires specified for your vehicle, or their equivalent.

Tire pressure monitoring system

General notes .. '
Each tire, including the spare (if provided) , should be checked
monthly when cold and inflated to the inflation pressure recom­
mended by the vehicle manufacturer on the vehicle placard or tire
inflation pressure label. (If your vehicle has tires of a different size
than the size indicated on the vehicle placard or tire inflation pressure
label, you should determine the proper tire inflation pressure for
those tires.)
As an added safety feature, your vehicle has been equipped with a tire
pressure monitoring system (TPMS) that illuminates a low tire pres ­
sure telltale when one or more of your tires is significantly under­
inflated . Accordingly, when the low tire pressure telltale illuminates,
you should stop and check your tires as soon as possible, and inflate
them to the proper pressure. Driving on a significantly under-inflated
tire causes the tire to overheat and can lead to tire failure . Under­
inflation also reduces fuel efficiency and tire tread life, and may
affect the vehicle's handling and stopping ability.
Please note that the TPMS is not a substitute for proper tire mainte­
nance, and it is the driver's responsibility to maintain correct tire
pressure, even if under-inflation has not reached the level to trigger
illumination of the TPMS low tire pressure telltale.
Your vehicle has also been equipped with a TPMS malfunction indi­
cator to indicate when the system is not operating properly. The
TPMS malfunction indicator is combined with the low tire pressure
telltale. When the system detects a malfunction, the telltale will
flash for approximately one minute and then remain continuously illuminated. This sequence will continue upon subsequent vehicle
start-ups as long as the malfunction exists .
When the malfunction indicator is illuminated, the system may not
be able to detect or signal low tire pressure as intended. TPMS
malfunctions may occur for a variety of reasons, including the instal-..,_

lation of replacement or alternate tires or wheels on the vehicle that
prevent the TPMS from functioning properly. Always check the TPMS
malfunction telltale after replacing one or more tires or wheels on
your vehicle to ensure that the replacement or alternate tires and
wheels allow the TPMS to continue to function properly .•

Introduction
The tire pressure monitoring system monitors air pres­
sure in all four road wheels and the spare tire* while the
vehicle is moving.
As soon as the tire pressure monitoring system senses a significant
loss of air pressure in one or several tires, text messages and yellow
symbols appear in the instrument cluster display to alert the driver.
The
1warning light in the instrument cluster comes on when the tire
is significantly underinflated
=> page 17.
The warning light
L also illuminates in the case of a system malfunc­
tion.
The system continuously receives radio signals from sensors located
inside each tire.
Be aware that tire pressure is also dependent on the temperature of
the tire. For every 18 °F (10 °C) increase in tire temperature, tire pres­
sure increases by about 1.5 psi (0.1 bar). The tire warms up while the
vehicle is moving and tire pressure rises. So you should adjust tire
pressure only when the tires are
cold, when the temperature of the
tires is roughly the same as the ambient air temperature.
In order to keep the tire pressure monitoring system properly cali­
brated, tire pressure on all four tires and on the spare tire* should be
checked at regular intervals, adjusted if necessary and saved in the
proper setting (recommended pressure)=>
page 330.
The tire pressure is shown on the tire pressure label. On USA vehicles,
the tire pressure label is located on the driver's side B-pillar. On
Canada vehicles, the tire pressure label is located either on the

driver's side B-pillar or inside the fuel filler flap. The tire pressure
label lists the recommended cold tire inflation pressures for the
vehicle at its maximum capacity weight and the tires that were on
your vehicle at the time it was manufactured. For recommended tire
pressures for normal load conditions, please see chapter
=> page 310.

• When the tire pressure monitoring system warning light is lit,

This could lead to serious tire damage and even cause the tire to

Storing tire pressures
Correct storage of specified pressure is the basic require­
ment for reliable tire pressure monitoring.
In order for the tire pressure monitoring system to operate
appropriately, you have to re-save the specified pressures
whenever you adjust tire pressure, for example when the load
condition of your vehicle changes . Proceed as follows:

- Check the pressure in the tires (including the spare t ire*) .
- Adjust air pressure as needed in accordance with t he infor -
mation on the label located e ither on the driver's side B ­
pillar (visible when the door is open), inside the fuel filler
flap and additionally in the manual.
Saving tire p ressures
- Turn on the ignition.
- Press the [
CAR] function button .
- Select
Systems in the CAR menu .

Tire pressure mon itoring .

All pressure warning indicators in the display will be canceled.
Following each intentional change in specified pressures, tire pres­
sures must be resaved . After the
pressures are saved, the tire pressure monitoring system
measures the c urrent tire pressures and saves them as the new spec­
ified pressures .

Important considerations for you and your
vehicle
T he increasing use of electronics, sophisticated fuel injection and
em ission control systems, and the generally increasing technical
complexity of today's automobiles, have steadily reduced the scope
of mai ntenance and repai rs which can be carried out by vehicle
owners.
Also, safety and environmental concerns place very strict
limits on the nature of repairs and adjustments to engine and trans­
mission parts which an owner can perform.
Maintenance, adjustments and repairs usually require special tools,
testing devices and other equipment available to spec ially trained
workshop personnel in order to assure proper performance, reli­
ability and safety of the vehicle and its many systems.
Improper maintenance, adjustments and repairs can impair the oper­
ation and reliability of your vehicle and even void you r vehicle
warranty . Therefore, proof of servicing in accordance with the ma in­
tenance schedule may be a condition for upholding a possible
warranty claim made w ith in the warranty period . Above all, operat
ional safety can be adversely affected, creating
unnecessary r isks for you and you r passengers.
If in doubt about any serv ic ing, have it done by your authorized Audi
dealer or any other properly equipped and qualified workshop. We
st rongly urge you to give your authorized Audi dealer the opportunity
to perform all scheduled maintenance and necessary repairs. Your
dealer has the facilities, original parts and trained specialists to keep
your vehicle running properly.
Performing limited maintenance yourself
The following pages describe a limited number of procedures which
can be performed on your vehicle with ord inary tools, should the need
arise and trained personne l be unavailable. Before performing any of
