Warm and cold
• Repairs to the Audi ai r conditioner require special technical
know ledge and special tools. Contact an authorized Audi dea ler for
assistance.
[ i ) Tips
• To avoid adversely affecting hea ting and cooling performance
and to preven t condensation on the windows, the air intake in front
of the windshield must be free of ice , snow and leaves.
• The air flowing out of the ven ts and throughout the vehicle 's
entire interior is d ischarged at the rear of the vehicle . Make sure tha t
the outle t slots are not cover ed by clothing, etc .
• Climate control works mos t effectively if the windows and the
panoramic s liding /ti lting sunroof * are closed. Howeve r, if the in te ­
rior of a parked vehicle is extremely hot from the sun, briefly
opening the windows can speed up the cooling process. •

climate controls.

• It is possible that the fan speed may change automatically . This
occurs to ensure that the desired temperature se tting is reached as
quickly as possible.
• The fan speed cannot be regulated separa tely for the driver and
front passenger. •

Recirculation mode[~)
The recirculation mode prevents polluted outside air from
entering the vehicle interior.
Turning on recirculation mode
-Press the lo'.;)] ~ & button.
Turning off recirculation mode
- Press the~ button again, or
press the (AUTO ] button.
In recirculation mode , air is drawn from the vehicle interior, filtered
and recirculated. We recommend selecting recirculation mode
under the following conditions:
When driving through a tunnel or in a traffic jam so that exhaust
fumes and odors cannot enter the vehic le interior.
& WARNING
You should not use the recirculation mode for an extended period

You can adjust the air distribution so that air flows from specif ic
vents. In position
:0 air flows only to the windows, in position :J, it
flows to the driver or passenger , and in position
!-0 it flows to the
footwell. There are additional combinations available to adjust air
dis tribution as needed .
To regulate a ir distribution automat ically, switch to [AUTO] .
When the MMI display is turned on, the air distribution setting appears for a few seconds on the screen=>

Defrost [@ I
The windshield and side windows are defrosted or cleared
of condensation as quickly as possible.
- Press the 1@ 1 button to turn on the defroster .
- Press the
[@ j button again, or press the [ AUTO j button to
turn it off.
Temperature is controlled automatically. The maximum amount of
air flows mainly from the vents below the windshield.
Pressing the [@] button switches off recirculation mode. •

Rear window defogger [CiWj
The rear window defogger clears the rear window of
condensation.
- Press the ICiW ] button to turn the rear window defogger on
and off.
The rear window defogger works only when the engine is running.
The indicator light in the button illuminates when the rear window
defogger is on. The
rear window defogger is switched off automatically after 10 to
20 minutes, depending on the outside temperature.
The rear window defogger can be turned on permanently by
pressing the
[Cial] button for more than two seconds. This remains
stored until the ignition is switched off . A rear window defogger that
was switched on also remains stored for 15 m inutes after the igni ­
tion is switched off.
If the engine is restarted within these 15 minutes , the rear window
defogger is activated for 10 to 20 minutes, depending on outside
temperature. When a vehicle is parked for a short time , the rear
window defogger does not need to be manually activated again.
~ For the sake of the environment
As soon as the rear window is clear, you should switch the rear
window defogger off. The reduced power consumption has a bene­
ficial ef fect on fuel consumption .•

AC mode [AC ]
Turning AC off
- Press the IACI button.
Turning AC on
- Press the IACj button again.
The cooling system is turned on in AC mode. The heating and v enti ­
lation system is controlled automatically .
[ i] Tips
If the LED in the switch does not illuminate after AC mode has been
turned on( = turning th e AC off), there is a fault in an air -conditioning .,_

If the a ir qu alit y se nsor located in the climate control system
detects polluted outside air, the sensor decides whether the air
pollution can be reduced by the factory -ins tal led pollutant filter or
whether it is necessary to switch to recirculation. With heavy
concentrations of pollutants, the climate control system is switched
automatically to rec irculation mode and the supply of outside air is
b locked. As soon as the concentration of pollutants in the outs ide
air drops , fresh air is supplied to the vehicle interior again.
In the event that the w indows fog up during automatic recirculation,
press the
[ liW ) button immediately.
Under certain operating conditions, automatic recirculation is
switched off automatically. When outside temperatures are below
about 50 °F
( + 10 °C), automatic recirculation is limited to
30 seconds . When outs ide temperatures are below about 30 °F (-
1 °Cl, automatic r ecirculation is limited to 15 seconds .•

Synchronization
One climate control setting for all seats.
After Synchronization is set to On , all of the subsequent cl imate
c ontrol se ttings (excep t for seat heating *) for the driver are trans­
ferred to the front passenger .
Synchronization is canceled when settings are adjusted on the front
passenger's side. •

Front seat heating~
The seat cushion and the seat back of the front seats can
be heated electrically.
Press the~ button.

Rotate the reg ulator to the desired setting .
In position 0, seat heating is turned off . T he control range is from 1
to 6.
Seat heating only functions when the seats are loaded with body
we ight . If a person is no t si tting on the front seats, seat heating
should be switched off to prevent unin tentiona l heating of the seat
surfaces.

To avoid damage to the heating elements in the seats, do not kneel on the seats or place heavy loads on a small area of the seat. .,,_

Please note that low objects already signalled by a warning can
disappear fro m the system 's detectio n range and wil l n ot con tinu e
to be signa lled .
If the distance to an obstacle remains the same, the vo lume of the
d istance wa rni ng i s gradually reduced after a bout 4 seconds .
Approaching another obstacle wi ll result in the distance warning
sound ing at th e nor mal vo lume agai n.
Malfunctions in the system If a warnin g tone is audib le for about five seconds when you turn on
the ignition, there is a ma lfunction in the system. Have the prob lem
corrected by y our aut horiz ed Aud i deale r.
Keep the sensors in the rear bu mper c lean and free from ice so that
th e acous tic par k ass is t sy stem can f unction properl y.
& WARNING
• Sensors have dead spaces in which objects cannot be
detected . Be especially alert for small children and animals , since
they are not always detected by the sensors.
• The acoustic parking system is not a substitute for the dr iver's
own caution and alertness . Ultimate responsibility always
remains with the driver during parking and similar maneuvers .
Always watch where you are driving .
• You should always adjust the volume and frequency of the
warning tones so that you can easily hear the acoustic distance
warn ing even if the radio is play ing , the air-conditioner blower is
on High or there is a high level of outside noise.
-Check the settings whenever anyone else has driven the
vehicle before you.

• Reme mber that low obstacles for wh ic h a war ning has already
been issued may "dive" below the system's sensing zone if the
v ehicl e is be ing backe d up close r. In t his cas e, t he wa rnin g so und shutting off does
not indicate that you have c leared the obstacle .

• Objects such as trai ler hitches, chains, narrow posts or fences
cov ered by a t hin lay er of p ain t may no t always be detecte d by t he
syst em . T hey can stil l damage your vehicle without warning.

Important things to do before driving
Safety is everybody's job! Vehicle and occupant safety
always depends on the informed and careful driver.
For your safety and the safety of your passengers, before
driving always:
-Make sure that all lights and signals are operat ing
correctly.
- Make sure that the tire pressure is correct.
- Make sure that all windows are clean and afford good
visibility to the outside.
- Secure all luggage and other items carefully =>

-Make sure that noth ing can interfere w ith the pedals.
- Adjust front seat, head restraint and mirrors correctly for your height .
- Instruct passengers to adjust the head restraints
according to their height.

What impairs driving safety?
Safe driving is directly related to the condition of the
vehicle, the driver as well as the driver's ability to concen­
trate on the road without being distracted.
The driver is responsible for the safety of the vehicle and all
of its occupants. If your ability to drive is impaired, safety
risks for everybody in the vehicle increase and you also
become a hazard to everyone else on the road =>& .There ­
fore:
Do not let yourself be distracted by passengers or by
using a cellular telephone .
NEVER drive when your driving ability is impaired (by
medications, alcohol, drugs, etc.).
- Observe all traffic laws, rules of the road and speed limits
and plain common sense .
- ALWAYS adjust your speed to road, traffic and weather
conditions.
- Take frequent breaks on long trips. Do not drive for more
than two hours at a stretch.
- Do NOT drive when you are tired, under pressure or when
you are stressed .

• Air circu lation helps to reduce window fogging . Stale air escapes
to the outside through vents in the tr im panel. Be sure to keep these

• T he tire pressure must correspond to the load. The ti re pressure
is shown on th e tire pressure label. On USA vehicles, the tire pres ­
sure label is located on the driver 's side 8 -pillar. On Canada vehicles,
t he t ire pressure la bel is located e ither on the driver's s ide 8 -p illar
or ins ide the fuel fil ler flap. The tire pressu re labe l lists the recom ­
m en ded c old tire in flati on press ures for the vehicle at i ts m axim um
capacity weight and the tires that were on your vehicle at the time

Tie-downs
T h e lu gga ge compart ment is equipped with four tie­
do wns t o sec ure lu gg ag e and oth er item s.
Use the tie -downs to secure your cargo properly=> page 175,
"Lo adi ng th e luggag e compartm ent".
I n a co llis ion, the laws of physics mean that even smaller items that
are l oose i n t he vehic le wi ll become heavy mis siles that can ca use
serious injur y. It e ms in the vehicle possess energy which vary with
veh ic le speed and the weight of the item . Vehic le speed is the most
s ign ificant factor.

or example, in a frontal co llision at a speed of 30 mph ( 48 km/h),
t he forces acting on a 10 -lb (4. 5 kg) o bjec t are abo ut 20 times the
normal weight of the item . This means that the we ight of the item
wo uld sudden ly be about 200 lbs . (90 kg) . Yo u can imagine the inj u­
ries that a 200 lbs . (90 kg) item flying free ly through the passenger
compa rtment cou ld cause in a coll ision like this .
& WARNING
Weak, damaged or improper straps used to secure items to tie ­
downs can fail dur ing hard braking or in a collision and cause
serious personal injury.
• Always use suitable mounting straps and properly secure
items to the tie -downs in the luggage compartment to help
prevent items from shifting or flying forward as dangerous
missiles .
• When the rear seat ba ckrest is folded down , always use suit ­
able mounting straps and properly secure items to the tie -downs
in the luggage compartment to help prevent items from flying
forward as dangerous missiles into the passenger compartment .
• Never atta ch a ch ild safety seat tether strap to a tie -down . •
