mit the engine speed. The engine control
unit restricts the engine speed to the steady limit value. Shift into the next higher gear or select
the selector lever position D of the auto-
matic gearbox before reaching the red zone of the rev counter scale. Avoid high engine speeds during the driv
ing time and before the engine has been
warmed up to operating temperature

Cold range If the pointer is in the left-hand area of the scale it means that the engine has not yet reached its operating temperature. Avoi
d running at high engine speeds, at full
throttle and at severe engine loads. The operating range The engine has reached its operating temperature as soon as the pointer moves into the mid-range of the scale. The pointe
r may also move further to the right at
high engine loads and high outside temper
atures. This is not critical provided the
warning symbol
 in the instrument cluster does not flash.
If the symbol
 in the instrument cluster flashes it means that either the coolant
temperature
is too high or the coolant
level
is too low. Observe the guidelines

”.
WARNING
Pay attention to the warning notes

compartment” before opening the bonnet and inspecting the coolant level.
Caution
Additional headlights and other attached co

The door, luggage compartment and bonnet ajar warning lights up if at least one door, the luggage compartment or bonnet
are not closed. The symbol indicates
which door is still open or whether th
e luggage compartment door or bonnet is
not
closed

The symbol goes out as soon as the doors, luggage compartment door and bonnet are completely closed. A warning signal sounds if the car is driven
at a speed of more than 6km/hour and

exhaust gases may get into the interior of the vehicle - risk of poisoning!

The function of the hand grip on the bottom edge of the boot lid is deactivated

Rear window heater – You can switch the rear window heater on or off by pressing the switch

The windscreen and rear window heater only operates when the engine is running. The windscreen and rear window heater
switches
off automatically after 10
minutes.
For the sake of the environment
As soon as the window is de-iced or free from mist, the heating should be switched off. The reduced current consumption will have a favourable effect on fuel economy
⇒page 205, “Saving electricity”.
Note
•
If the on-board voltage drops, the wi
ndscreen or rear window heater is
switched off automatica
lly, in order to provide sufficient electrical energy for the
engine control.•
The position and the shape of the switch for rear window heater can differ
depending on the equipment installed in the vehicle.
Sun visorsYou can pull the sun visor for the driver or
front passenger out of the fixture and
swivel it toward the door in the direction of the arrow
⇒fig. 70
.
The vanity mirrors in the sun visors are provided with covers. When you slide open the cover in the direction of the arrow , the vanity mirror lighting in the headliner switches on automatically. It switches off again when you slide the cover closed or when you raise the sun visor.
WARNING
The sun visors must not be swivelled to the side windows into the deploy-ment area of the head airbags if any ob
jects, such as ball-point pens etc. are
attached to them. This might result in injuries to the occupants if the head airbag is deployed.

