DESCRIPTION
Operation Flow
Setting the vehicle security system Initial condition
• Ignition switch is in OFF position.
Disarmed phase
• When the vehicle is being driven or when any door or tr unk (sedan) is open, the vehicle security system is
set in the disarmed phase on the assumption that the owner is inside or near the vehicle.
Pre-armed phase and armed phase
• The vehicle security system turns into the "pre- armed" phase (security lamp illuminates) when the BCM
receives LOCK signal from front door key cylinder s witch, keyfob or Intelligent Key after all doors and trunk
(sedan) are closed.
• All doors and trunk (sedan) are closed after front door s are locked by key or door lock and unlock switch.
The security indicator lamp illuminates for 30 seconds. t hen, the system automatically shifts into the "armed"
phase.
Canceling the set vehicle security system Armed phase is canceled when the driver unlocks the doors or the trunk (sedan) with the key, keyfob or Intelli-
gent Key.
Activating the alarm operation of the vehicle security system Make sure the system is in the armed phase.
When one of the following operations is performed, the system sounds the horns and flashes the headlamps
for about 50 seconds.
1. Any door is opened before unlocking door with key, keyfob or Intelligent Key.
2. Door is unlocked without using key, keyfob or Intelligent Key.
3. Trunk (sedan) is opened without using the key, trunk lid opener switch, keyfob or Intelligent Key (sedan).

BASIC SERVICE PROCEDURE
BASIC SERVICE PROCEDURE
Basic Inspection INFOID:00000000045370431.
INSPECTION START
1. Check service records for any recent repairs that ma y indicate a related malfunction, or a current need for
scheduled maintenance.
2. Open engine hood and check the following:
- Harness connectors for improper connections
- Wiring harness for improper connections, pinches and cut
- Vacuum hoses for splits, kinks and improper connections
- Hoses and ducts for leaks
- Air cleaner clogging
- Gasket
3. Confirm that electrical or mechanical loads are not applied.
- Headlamp switch is OFF.
- Air conditioner switch is OFF.
- Rear window defogger switch is OFF.
- Steering wheel is in the straight-ahead position, etc.
4. Start engine and warm it up until engine coolant temperature indicator points the middle of gauge.
Ensure engine stays below 1,000 rpm.
5. Run engine at about 2,000 rpm for about 2 minutes under no load.
6. Make sure that no DTC is displayed with CONSULT-III or GST.
OK or NG OK >> GO TO 3.
NG >> GO TO 2. 2.
REPAIR OR REPLACE
Repair or replace components as necessary according to corresponding Diagnostic Procedure.
>> GO TO 3. 3.
CHECK TARGET IDLE SPEED
With CONSULT-III
1. Run engine at about 2,000 rpm for about 2 minutes under no load. SEF983U

SEF977U
EC
NP
O
[Air conditioner, headlamp, rear window defogger]
On vehicles equipped with daytime light systems, if the parking brake is applied before the engine is
started the headlamp will not be illuminated.
• Steering wheel: Neutral (Straight-ahead position)
• Vehicle speed: Stopped
• Transmission: Warmed-up
- Models with CONSULT-III (A/T and CVT models)
• Drive vehicle until “FLUID TEMP SE” in “DATA MONI TOR” mode of “A/T” or “CVT” system indicates less
than 0.9V.
- Models without CONSULT-III (A/T and CVT models) and M/T models
• Drive vehicle for 10 minutes.
OPERATION PROCEDURE
With CONSULT-III
1. Perform EC-572, " Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning " .
2. Perform EC-572, " Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning " .
3. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
4. Check that all items listed under the topic PREP ARATION (previously mentioned) are in good order.
5. Select “IDLE AIR VOL LEA RN” in “WORK SUPPORT” mode.
6. Touch “START” and wait 20 seconds.
7. Make sure that “CMPLT” is displayed on CONSULT-III screen. If “CMPLT” is not displayed, Idle Air Vol-
ume Learning will not be carried out successfully. In this case, find the cause of the incident by referring to
the DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE below.
8. Rev up the engine two or three times and make sure that idle speed and ignition timing are within the specifications.
Refer to EC-566, " Basic Inspection " .
Without CONSULT-III
NOTE:
• It is better to count the time accurately with a clock.
• It is impossible to switch the di agnostic mode when an accelerator pedal position sensor circuit has
a malfunction.
5. Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds.
6. Confirm that accelerator pedal is fully releas ed, turn ignition switch ON and wait 3 seconds.
7. Repeat the following procedure quick ly five times within 5 seconds.
a. Fully depress the accelerator pedal.
b. Fully release the accelerator pedal.
8. Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 20 seconds until the MIL stops
blinking and turned ON.
9. Fully release the accelerator pedal within 3 seconds after the MIL turned ON.
10. Start engine and let it idle.
