Clear vision
One-touch wiping

Turning off the wipers
- Move the lever back to position @ .
Gen era l inform ati on
The windshield wipers and the windshield washer system operate
only with the ignition on.
During a temporary stop, e.g. at a traffic signa l, the set wipe speed
is aut omatically reduced by one stage .
The windshield washer nozzles are heated at low temperatures
when the ignition is on .
Removing vv ater drop let s
About 5 seconds after the wash cycle is complete, the wiper system
performs a single automatic wipe cycle to remove any water drop ­
lets that remain on the windshield .
If you would like to deactivate this delayed wipe cyc le whi le dr iving,
you have to pull the lever to position © again within 10 seconds
af ter this w ipe cyc le .
Water droplet removal is reactivated after the ignition is switched off and then on again .
Rain se nsor
The ra in sensor operates on ly in the interval wiper position . When it
starts to rain, the interval wiper mode is activated automatically .
I f the windshie ld wiper lever is in the interval wipe position with the
ign ition sw itched off, the rain sensor is not activated unt il veh ic le
speed is above 4 mph (6 km/h) .
T o reduce the sens itivi ty of the rain sensor, the swi tch
© must be
moved down. To increase the sensitivity of the rain sensor, the
sw itc h must be moved up .
T he higher the sensitivity sett ing, the sooner the windshield wipers
react to moisture on the windshie ld. Increased sensitivity is
signa led by the windshie ld w ipers making a si ng le pass over the
windshield.
T he rain sensor wiper interva ls depend on the sens itivity setting as
we ll as vehicle speed. During brief stops, wiper motion will adjust in
r elation to the amount of rain on the windshield .
& WARNING
• Wiper blades are crucial for safe driving! Only when they are in
good cond ition are they able to clear the windo ws properly to
provide uncompromised visibility . Worn or d am aged wiper blades

• The rain sensor is only designed to a ssist and support the
dri ver . It remai ns entirel y the dr iver's respon sibil ity to monitor
out side weather conditions and to manually activate the wiper s as
so on a s rain or dri zzle reduce s vis ibility through the wind sh ield.
• The wind shield must not be treated with water -repellent mate ­
rials . The y can incre as e g la re under poor visibility condition s su ch
as wetness , darkne ss, or when th e sun is low on t he horizon. In
addition , they can cause the wind shield wiper s to ch att er.

In freezing or near freezing conditions :

• Always check that the wiper blades are not fro zen to the glass
before you turn the wipers on. Loosen a wiper blade which is frozen
in place before operating the wipers to prevent damage to the wiper
blade or the wiper motor.
• Do not use the wipers to clea r a frosted window . Using the
wipers as a convenient ice scraper will destroy the wiper blades.
• Before you take your v ehicl e to an automatic car wash, make sure
you have the windshield wiper system switched off (lever in position
Ol, otherwise the windshield wiper sys tem could get damaged in the
car wash if it should suddenly come on.
[ i] Tips
• The rain sensor is part of the interval wiping system . Turning off
the ignition will also deactivate the rain sensor . To reactivate the
sensor, switch off the interval wiping function, then switch it back
on again.
• Worn or dirty windshield wiper blades cause smearing which
can affect the operation of the rain sensor. Check the condition of
your windshield wiper blades regularly.
• Make sure the washer fluid reservoir in the engine compartment
is topped off before going on a long trip. Look up~
page 316for
checking and filling the washer container .•

Headlight washer system
The headlight washer system cleans the headlights.
- Operate the windshield wiper/washer system~ page 71,
fig. 65 ® with the headlights turned on by holding the
lever for longer than one second.
The washer jets extend forward out of the front bumper driven by
water pressure to spray the front headlights with water.
Controls and equip ­
ment
Clear vision
You should inspect the headlights regularly (for example when refu­
eling) and clean off any solid dirt or insects from the lenses.
To ensure the system works properly in winter , keep the washer jets
free of snow and
remove any ice using a de -icing spray .•
Service position
The wiper blades can only be changed in the service posi­
tion.

Windshield wipers
At below freezing outside temperatures, make sure first
that the wiper blades are not frozen to the windshield.
- Press the [CAR] function button.
- Select Windshield wipers . The Windshield wipers menu
appears ~ fig. 66.
- Select Service position on to turn the service position on
or
off to return the windshield w iper to its orig inal posi­
tion .
You must only attempt to change the wiper blades when the s ervice
position is activated. This way, when you are working on the wind ­
shield wipers , you can
avoid damaging the paint on the engine
hood.

Clear vision

Never drive your vehicle when the windshield wiper arms are in the
service position and pulled away from the windshield. When you
drive faster than 4 mph (6 km/h), the wiper arms automatically
return back to the park position and could cause paint damage to
the engine hood!
[ i ] Tips
• You can also turn on the service position, for example, if you
want to protect the windshield from icing, using a cover.
• The service position moves to
off automatically when you
operate the windshield wiper lever, or speed exceeds 4 mph (6
km/h). •

- Bring the windshield wipers to the service position

-Lift the wiper arm away from the windshield.
- Press on both sides of the locking spring @ on the wiper
blade~ fig. 67. Hold the wiper blade firmly.
- Remove the wiper blade@.
Installing wiper blade
-Install the new wiper blade in the retainer on the wiper
arm @~fig . 68 until it clicks into place on the wiper
arm.
- Place the wiper arm back against the windshield.
Clean your wiper blades regularly with a windshield washer solution
to prevent streaking. If the blades are very dirty, for example with
insects, carefully clean the blades with a sponge or a soft brush.
If the wiper blades begin to streak the windshield, this cou ld be
caused by residue left on the windshield by automatic car washes.
Fill the windshield washer container with a special solution avail -
able at your authorized Audi dealer to remove the residue. _,,.

To prevent damage to the wiper system:
• Always loosen blades which are frozen to the windshield before
operating wipers.
• Do not use gasoline, kerosene, paint thinner , or other solvents on
or near the wiper blades.
• Do not attempt to move the wipers by hand .
• The windshield wiper blades mus t only be replaced when in the
service position =>
page 73! Otherwise, you risk damaging the paint
on the hood or the windshield wiper motor.

Automati c dimming fun ction
The automatic dimming function is activated every time the ignition is turned on. The green indicator light is lit to indica te auto dimming
is active .
When dimming is activated, the inside mirror w ill darken
automa ti­
cally in response to the amount of light striking the mirror (such as
headlights from rearwa rd approaching vehicles). Even in d imm ing
mode, the mirror surface turns bright when:
• the interior light is switched on
• reverse gear is engaged .

T he best way to remove snow from windows and mirrors is to use a
brush . Use a non -abrasive
pla stic ice scraper -better still, a spray
deicer -to remove
ice from w indows and mirrors .
The windows must not be cleaned with insect remover or wax since
these can inter fere with the function of the w inds hie ld w iper blades
(chatter).
Oil, grease o r sil icone residue can be removed with
glass cleaner or
s ilicone remover . However, wax residue requires the use of a
spec ially for mulated solvent . Please contact your Audi dealer for
advice on safe products for wax removal.
Windows should also be c leaned on the inside at regular interva ls .
Never dry windows with the same chamois that you use to dry
painted surfaces . Wax residue on the chamois can impair vision
t hrough the windows.
& WARNING
• The windshield mu st not be treated with water -repellent mate ­
rials. They c an incre ase gl are under poor v isibility conditions such
a s wetne ss, darkne ss, or when the sun i s low on the hori zon. In
addition , they can cause the wind shield wipers to chatter .
• Alway s read and heed all WARNINGS and other information

• Never use warm or hot water to remove snow and ice from
windows a nd mirrors . This cou ld cause the glass to crack.
• T o prevent damage to the wires of the rear defogger, do not p lace
any adhesive stickers on the inside of the rear window over the
wires .
• T o he lp prevent dirt from scratching the window, always scrape
in a forward direction -pushing the scraper away from you -never
back and forth. •
Weatherstrips

To be able sea l properly, the weatherstrips around the hood, doors,
rear lid, etc . must remain pliable. Spray the weatherstrips with sili­
co ne or coat them w ith ta lcum powder or glycer ine to retain the
f lexibility of the rubber and to protect them against freezing in the
winte r.
