Coolant temperature warning light “”
If the coolant temperature reaches a specified lev-
el, this light comes on to warn that the coolant tem-
perature is too hot. If the light comes on during
operation, stop the engine as soon as it is safe to
do so and allow the engine to cool down for about
10 minutes. (See page 8-154.)
The electrical circuit of the warning light can be
checked by turning the key to “ON”. If the warning
light does not come on, have a Yamaha dealer
check the electrical circuit.NOTICE
The engine may overheat if the vehicle is
overloaded. If this happens, reduce the load
to specification.
After restarting, make sure that the light is
out. Continuous use while the light is on
may cause damage to the engine.

Engine trouble warning light “”
This warning light comes on or flashes when an
electrical circuit monitoring the engine is defective.
When this occurs, have a Yamaha dealer check
the self-diagnosis system. (See page 4-23 for an
explanation of the self-diagnosis device.)
The electrical circuit of the warning light can be
checked by turning the key to “ON”. If the warning
light does not come on, then go off, have a
Yamaha dealer check the electrical circuit.

Self-diagnosis device
This model is equipped with a self-diagnosis de-
vice for various electrical circuits.
If any of those circuits are defective, the engine
trouble warning light will come on or flash, and
then the multi-function display will indicate a two-
digit error code.
If the multi-function display indicates such an error
code, note the code number, and then have a
Yamaha dealer check the vehicle.NOTICE
If the multi-function display indicates an error
code, the vehicle should be checked as soon
as possible in order to avoid engine damage.

Accelerator pedal
Press the accelerator pedal down to increase en-
gine speed. Spring pressure returns the pedal to
the rest position when released. Always check that
the accelerator pedal returns normally before start-
ing the engine.

1 -FOR YOUR SAFETY – PRE-OPERATION CHECKS
Inspect your vehicle each time you use it to make sure the vehicle is in safe operating condition. Always fol-
low the inspection and maintenance procedures and schedules described in the Owner’s Manual.
WARNING
Failure to inspect or maintain the vehicle properly increases the possibility of an accident or equip-
ment damage. Do not operate the vehicle if you find any problem. If a problem cannot be corrected
by the procedures provided in this manual, have the vehicle inspected by a Yamaha dealer. Before using this vehicle, check the following points:

Coolant
Check the coolant level in the coolant reservoir
when the engine is cold (the coolant level will vary
with engine temperature).
The coolant level is satisfactory if it is between the
minimum and maximum level marks on the cool-
ant reservoir. If the coolant level is at or below the
minimum level mark, add additional coolant to
bring the level up to maximum level mark. If cool-
ant is not available, add distilled water. Change the
coolant every two years. (See pages 8-53–8-55 for
details.)NOTICE
Hard water or salt water is harmful to the en-
gine. You may use soft water if you cannot get
distilled water.
Coolant reservoir capacity
(up to the maximum level mark):
0.32 L (0.28 Imp qt, 0.34 US qt)
