10. Put the notch (J) provided on the jack handle end on the
valve (K) of the jack. Using the jack handle, turn the release valve anticlock- wise slowly to lower the vehicle until the tyre touches theground.
11. Tighten the nuts crisscross
in 2 or 3 steps until each nut
has been tightened securely. Tightening torque 105 to 125 Nm (Achieved by applying a force of 390 to 460 N at the endof the wheel nut wrench s
upplied with the vehicle.)
WARNING
!●
Be sure to open the release valve slowly. If it is opened quickly, the vehicl
e will drop abruptly and
the jack may come out of
position, causing a serious
accident.
CAUTION
!●
Never use your foot or a pipe extension for extra force in the wheel nut wren
ch. If you do so, you will
tighten the nut too much.

2. Keep the engine running.
If the engine is not running, turn the ignition switch to the “ACC” or “ON” position to unlock the steering wheel.
3. Place the gearshift lever in
the “N” (Neutral) position
(with manual transmission) or the selector lever in the “N” (NEUTRAL) position (with automatic transmission).
4. Shift the transfer shift lever to the “2H” position. 5. Turn on the hazard warning
lamps if required by law.
(Follow the local driving laws and regulations.)
6. During towing make sure th
at close contact is maintained
between the drivers of both ve
hicles, and that the vehicles
travel at low speed.
CAUTION
!●
When the engine is not r
unning, the brake booster
and power steering pump do not operate. This means higher brake depression force and highersteering effort are required.
Therefore, vehicle oper-
ation is more difficult than usual.
●
Do not leave the key in the “LOCK” position or do not remove the ignition ke
y from the ignition switch
while driving. The steering
wheel will lock, causing
loss of control.
CAUTION
!●
Avoid sudden braking,
sudden acceleration and
sharp turning; such opera
tion could cause damage
to the towing hooks or the tow rope.People in the vicinity coul
d be injured as a result.
●
When towing or being towed down a long slope, the brakes may overheat reduci
ng the effectiveness. In
this situation, have your
vehicle transported by a
tow truck.
●
When the vehicle with auto
matic transmission is to
be towed by another vehicl
e with all wheels on the
ground, make sure that the towing speed and dis- tance given below are never exceeded, avoidingdamage to the transmission. Towing speed: 50 km/h (31 mph) Towing distance: 50 km (31 miles) For the towing speed and th
e towing distance, follow
the local driving laws and regulations.

Adequate care of your vehicle at
regular intervals serves to pre-
serve the value and appear
ance as long as possible.
Maintenance items as described in this owner’s manual can beperformed by the owner. We recommend you to have the periodic inspection and main- tenance performed by a MITS
UBISHI MOTORS Authorized
Service Point or another specialist. In the event a malfunction or other problem is discovered, we recommend you to have it checked and repaired. This s
ection contains information on
inspection maintenance procedures that you can do yourself. Follow the instructions and
cautions for each of the various
procedures.
WARNING
!●
When checking or servicing
the inside of the engine
compartment, make sure th
e engine is switched off
and has had a chan
ce to cool down.
●
If it is necessary to do
work in the engine compart-
ment with the engine runni
ng, be especially careful
that your clothing, hair, et
c., does not become caught
by the fan, drive belts, or other moving parts.
●
Do not smoke, cause sparks or allow open flames around fuel or battery. The fumes are flammable.
●
Be extremely cautious wh
en working around the
battery. It contains poison
ous and corrosive sulphu-
ric acid.
●
Do not get under your vehicle with just the body jack supporting it. Always use automotive jackstands.
●
Improper handling of comp
onents and materials
used in the vehicle ca
n endanger your personal
safety. We recommend you to consult a specialist fornecessary information.WARNING

Catalytic converter
E01000200550
For ordinary use, there are no
particular precautions except that
of using unleaded petrol. The exhaust gas scavenging de
vices used with the catalytic
converter are extremely efficien
t for the reduction of noxious
gases. The catalytic converter is
installed in the exhaust sys-
tem.It is important to keep the engine properly tuned to ensure proper catalyst
operation and prevent po
ssible catalyst damage.
NOTE●
In case of the petrol-power
ed vehicles, use UNLEADED
PETROL ONLY of the type recommended in “Fuel selec- tion” on page 2.
Bonnet
E01000301125
To open 1. Pull the release lever towards you to unlock the bonnet.
WARNING
!●
As with any vehicle, do not park or operate this vehicle in areas where comb
ustible materials such as
dry grass or leaves can come in contact with a hotexhaust since a fire could occur.
●
Paint should not be applied to the catalytic con- verter.

Engine coolant
E01000501042
To check the coolant levelA translucent coolant reserve tank
is located in the engine com-
partment. The coolant level in this tank should be kept between the“LOW” and “FULL” marks when measured while the engine is cold.
To add coolantThe cooling system is a closed
system and normally the loss of
coolant should be very slight.
A noticeable drop in the coolant
level could indicate leakage. If
this occurs, we recommend you
to have the system checked as soon as possible. If the level should drop below th
e “LOW” level on the reserve
tank, open the lid
and add coolant.
Also, if the reserve tank is completely empty, remove the radia- tor cap and add coolant until the
level reaches the filler neck.
Anti-freezeThe engine coolant contains an ethylene glycol anti-corrosion agent. The cylinder head and
water pump housing are cast alu-
minium alloy, and periodic changing of the engine coolant is necessary to prevent corrosion of these parts. Use “DIA QUEEN SUPER LONG LIFE COOLANT” or equivalent.MITSUBISHI Genuine Coolan
t has excellent protection
against corrosion and rust form
ation of all metals including
aluminium and can avoid blockages in the radiator, heater, cyl-inder head, engine block, etc.
WARNING
!●
Do not open the radiator ca
p while the engine is hot.
The coolant system is u
nder pressure and any hot
coolant escaping coul
d cause severe burns.

Brake fluid
E01000900401
To check the fluid levelThe brake fluid level is monito
red by a float. When the brake
fluid level falls below the “MIN” mark, the brake fluid warning lamp lights up. The brake fluid level must be
between the “MAX” and “MIN”
marks on the reservoir.
If the level is below the “MIN
” mark, check according to the
following procedure:1. Turn the ignition key to the “LOCK” or “ACC” position. 2. Repeatedly depress the brake
pedal until significant resist-
ance is felt (normally after about 40 times).
3. Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir.
The brake fluid level must be between the “MAX” and “MIN” marks on the reservoir.
The fluid level falls slightly with wear of the brake pads, but this does not indicate any abnormality. If the brake fluid level falls markedly in a short length of time, it indicates leaks fr
om the brake system.
If this occurs, we recommend yo
u to have the vehicle checked.

Checking battery electrolyte levelThe electrolyte level must be be
tween the specified limit on the
outside of the battery. Replenish with distilled water as neces- sary. The inside of the battery is divided into several compartments; remove the cap from each comp
artment and fill
to the upper
mark. Do not top up beyond the upper mark because spillageduring driving could cause damage. Check the electrolyte level
at least once every 4 weeks,
depending on the operating conditions. If the battery is not used, it will discharge by itself with time. Check it once every 4 weeks and charge with low current as necessary.
During cold weatherThe capacity of the battery is re
duced at low temperatures. This
is an inevitable result of its
chemical and physical properties.
This is why a very cold battery, particularly one that is not fully charged, will only deliver a fracti
on of the starter current which
is normally available. We recommend you to have the battery checked before the start of cold weather and, if necessa
ry, have it charged or replaced.
This does not only ensure reliable starting, but a battery whichis kept fully charged also has a longer life.Disconnection and connectionTo disconnect the battery cable, stop the engine, first discon- nect the negative (-) terminal a
nd then the positive (+) terminal.
When connecting the battery, fi
rst connect the positive (+) ter-
minal and then the ne
gative (-) terminal.
WARNING
!●
Keep sparks, cigarettes, and flames away from the battery because the battery could explode.
●
The battery electrolyte is
extremely caustic. Do not
allow it to come in contact with your eyes, skin, clothing, or the painted surf
aces of the vehicle. Spilt
electrolyte should be
flushed immediately with
ample amounts of water.Irritation to eyes or skin
from contact with electro-
lyte requires immediate medical attention.
●
Ventilate when charging or
using the battery in an
enclosed space.
