Towing with front wheels off the ground (Type B)Place the gearshift lever in the
“N” (Neutral) position (manual
transmission) or the selector
lever in the “N” (NEUTRAL)
position (automatic transmission). Release the parking brake.
Towing with rear wheels off the ground (Type C)Place the gearshift lever in the “N” (Neutral) position (manualtransmission) or the selector

position (automatic transmission). Turn the ignition key to the “ACC” position and secure the
steering wheel in a straight-
ahead position w
ith a rope or tie-down
strap. Never place the
ignition switch in the “LOCK” position when towing.

!●
Never tow an automatic transmission vehicle with the front wheels up (and the rear wheels on theground) (Type B) when the automatic transmission fluid level is low. This may cause serious and expen- sive damage to the transmission.

As your vehicle equipped with the Active Stability & Traction Control system (A
STC) is towed with the
ignition switch in the “ON” position and only thefront wheels or only the rear wheels raised off the ground, the active traction control system may oper- ate, resulting in an accident.

2. Keep the engine running.
If the engine is not running, turn the ignition switch to the “ACC” or “ON” position to unlock the steering wheel.
3. Place the gearshift lever in
the “N” (Neutral) position
(with manual transmission) or the selector lever in the “N” (NEUTRAL) position (with automatic transmission).
4. Shift the transfer shift lever to the “2H” position. 5. Turn on the hazard warning
lamps if required by law.
(Follow the local driving laws and regulations.)

at close contact is maintained
between the drivers of both ve
hicles, and that the vehicles
travel at low speed.
CAUTION

When the engine is not r
unning, the brake booster
and power steering pump do not operate. This means higher brake depression force and highersteering effort are required.
Therefore, vehicle oper-
ation is more difficult than usual.
●
Do not leave the key in the “LOCK” position or do not remove the ignition ke
y from the ignition switch
while driving. The steering
wheel will lock, causing
loss of control.

Avoid sudden braking,
sudden acceleration and
sharp turning; such opera
tion could cause damage
to the towing hooks or the tow rope.People in the vicinity coul
d be injured as a result.

When towing or being towed down a long slope, the brakes may overheat reduci
ng the effectiveness. In

vehicle transported by a
tow truck.

When the vehicle with auto
matic transmission is to
be towed by another vehicl
e with all wheels on the

Brake fluid

To check the fluid levelThe brake fluid level is monito
red by a float. When the brake
fluid level falls below the “MIN” mark, the brake fluid warning lamp lights up. The brake fluid level must be
between the “MAX” and “MIN”
marks on the reservoir.
If the level is below the “MIN
” mark, check according to the
following procedure:1. Turn the ignition key to the “LOCK” or “ACC” position. 2. Repeatedly depress the brake
pedal until significant resist-
ance is felt (normally after about 40 times).
3. Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir.
The brake fluid level must be between the “MAX” and “MIN” marks on the reservoir.
The fluid level falls slightly with wear of the brake pads, but this does not indicate any abnormality.If the brake fluid level falls markedly in a short length of time, it indicates leaks fr
om the brake system.
If this occurs, we recommend yo
u to have the vehicle checked.

Check to see if the battery is securely installed and cannot be moved during travel. Also check each terminal for tightness.

When the vehicle is to be left unused for a long period of time, remove the battery and
store it in a place where the
battery fluid will not freeze. Th
e battery should be stored
only in a fully charged condition.

Never disconnect the ba
ttery with the ignition
switch in the “ON” position; doing so could damage the vehicle’s electrical components.

Never short-circuit the batt
ery; doing so could cause
it to overheat and be damaged.

If the battery is to be qui
ck-charged, first disconnect
the battery cables.
●
In order to prevent a short ci
rcuit, be sure to discon-
nect the negative
(-) terminal first.
●
Always wear protective eye goggles when working near the battery.
●
Do not bring nearby parts,
plastic parts and so on
into contact with sulphuric
acid (battery electrolyte)
which may crack, stain or discolour them. If they are in contact, wipe
off with soft cloth, cham-
ois or the like and an aqueous solution of neutral detergent then immediately
rinse the affected parts
with plenty of water.

Fuse replacement

1. Before replacing a fuse, alwa
ys turn off the electrical cir-
cuit concerned and place the ignition switch in the “LOCK” position.
2. Pull the fuse block lid (A) to remove it. 3. Remove the fuse puller (B) from the fuse block lid.
4. The replacement of fuses located
in the driver’s seat leg
area should be performed from the hole of the fuse block lid.
