Introduction
This operating guide has been designed to
help you use your COMAND control unit in
all situations. Each chapter has its own col-
or code in order to make it easier to find in-
formation.
At a glance
Here you will find an overview of the com-
ponents of COMAND. Then you will find ex-
amples illustrating how to operate
COMAND and information on the basic
functions. If you are operating a COMAND
for the first time or have rented the vehicle,
you should first read this chapter.
Audio
Here you will find all information regarding
the audio function and its radio, SatRadio*,
CD-audio/DVD audio/MP3, music register
and audio aux modes.
Video
Here you will find all information regarding
the video system.
Telephone
The telephone functions are described

15 At a glance
COMAND control system
The currently selected function and the
associated menus are shown on the
COMAND display. The COMAND display is
divided into several areas.

4SubmenusThe status line 1 displays the time and
the current telephone status.
You can change the main function using
the menu bar 2. The selection is made us-
ing the COMAND controller (
page 20).
In this example, the Audio main function is
set to the radio mode and the main area 3
is active.
i The arrangement of the menus can vary, de-
pending on the equipment. The menus for the full
equipment version are shown in this guide.
Menu overview
Having selected a main function, you will
see the submenu at the bottom edge 4 of
the COMAND display.
Additional menus are available at the top
of the COMAND display 2 for the naviga-
tion, audio and telephone main functions
(
page 16).

Slide mr to highlight the submenu.
To select the weather band:
Rotate ymz or slide omp until “WB” is
highlighted.

i “Disc” accesses audio discs in the DVD
changer, “Memory Card” selects the PCMCIA

The g display changes to T.
To resume playback: Select T.
Playback will then continue at the point
at which it was interrupted.

when playback is stopped.

67 Audio
Music Register
You can record tracks from audio CDs and
store them as MP3 files in the Music Reg-
ister. The memory capacity is 4 GB.
! Keep your original music files in a safe
place. A fault with the COMAND may cause the
music files stored in the Music Register to be
lost. Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC is not liable for
any loss of data.
From another main function
Select “Audio” K “Audio” K “Music
Register” in the display with Audio
menu (

page 40).
i If “Music Register” was active last, you only
need to select “Audio”.
Within the audio function
Select “Audio” K “Music Register”.
The Music Register is loaded. The Mu-
sic Register display appears.
No music files available:
A message will be displayed.
First record music files to the Music
Register (

page 68).
Music files available:
You will hear the first track of the first
folder found or playback will start from
the point listened to last.

DVD video

After use, replace the discs into the
sleeve.

Protect the discs from heat and direct
sunlight.
Some DVDs may not comply with the
NTSC or PAL TV playback standards.
Sound, picture and other playback prob-
lems may occur when you play such DVDs.
As standard, COMAND can play video
DVDs which meet the following criteria:

Region code 1 or region code 0 (no re-
gion code)
i With a video DVD having another region
code, a corresponding message will be dis-
played.

PAL or NTSC TV standard
Information on this can usually be found ei-
ther on the DVD itself or on the DVD
sleeve.
i The factory setting for COMAND is region
code 1. An authorized Mercedes-Benz Center
can change this setting. This will enable you to
play video DVDs with other region codes, provid-
ed that they have been made to the PAL or NTSC
TV standard.
It may be the case that some functions or
actions may not be possible at certain
times, or may not be possible in general,
depending on the DVD.
When you activate such functions or ac-
tions, this is indicated by the 7 symbol in
the display.

CDs and DVDs” section (
page 54).

CDs and DVDs” section (
