COMPONENT DESCRIPTION
Cooling Fan Motor
The cooling fan at each speed when the current
flows in the cooling fan motor as follows.
CONSULT-III Reference Value in Data Monitor ModeINFOID:0000000001326897
Specification data are reference values.
On Board Diagnosis LogicINFOID:0000000001326898
If the cooling fan or another component in the cooling system malfunctions, engine coolant temperature will
rise.
When the engine coolant temperature reaches an abnorma lly high temperature condition, a malfunction is
indicated.
This self-diagnosis has the on e trip detection logic.
CAUTION:
When a malfunction is in dicated, be sure to replace the coolant. Refer to CO-37, "
Changing Engine
Coolant". Also, replace the engine oil. Refer to LU-24, "Changing Engine Oil".
1. Fill radiator with coolant up to specified level with a filling speed of 2 liters per minute. Be sure to
use coolant with the proper mixture ratio. Refer to MA-10, "
Anti-Freeze Coolant Mixture Ratio".

CYLINDER HEAD
Temporary fitting means the status that engine is
adequately stable though the hoist is released
from hanging.
NOTE:
At the time of the start of this procedure front suspension member is removed, and cylinder head is
hanged by hoist with the engine slinger installed.
3. Release the hoist from hanging, then remove the engine slinger.
4. Remove the following parts: Fuel tube and fuel injector assembly: Refer to EM-45, "
Component".
Intake manifold: Refer to EM-24, "
Component".
Exhaust manifold: Refer to EM-26, "
Component".
Water inlet and thermostat assembly: Refer to CO-27, "
Component".
Water outlet, water pipe and heater pipe: Refer to CO-29, "
Component".
5. Remove cylinder head bolts in reverse order as shown in the fig- ure with cylinder head bolt wrench (commercial service tool) and
power tool to remove cylinder heads (right and left banks).
6. Remove cylinder head gaskets.
INSPECTION AFTER REMOVAL
Cylinder Head Bolt s Outer Diameter
Cylinder head bolts are tightened by plastic zone tightening
method. Whenever the size difference between “d1” and “d2”
exceeds the limit, replace them with new one.
If reduction of outer diameter appear s in a position other than “d2”,
use it as “d2” point.
Cylinder Head Distortion
NOTE:
When performing this inspection, cylinder block distortion should be also checking. Refer to EM-138, "
Inspec-
tion After Disassembly".
1. Using a scraper, wipe off oil, scale, gasket, seal ant and carbon deposits from surface of cylinder head.
CAUTION:
Do not allow gasket fragme nts to enter engine oil or engine coolant passages.

ENGINE MAINTENANCE (VQ35DE ENGINE)
When engine coolant overflows air relief hole on heater hose, install air relief plug with new O-ring.
5. Install radiator cap.
6. Warm up until opening thermostat. Standard for warming- up time is approximately 10 minutes at 3,000
rpm.
Make sure thermostat opening condition by touching radiator hose (lower) to see a flow of warm water.
CAUTION:
Watch water temperature gauge so as not to overheat engine.
7. Stop the engine and cool down to less than approximately 50 °C (122 °F).
Cool down using fan to reduce the time.
If necessary, refill radiator up to filler neck with engine coolant.
8. Refill reservoir tank to “MAX” level line with engine coolant.
9. Repeat steps 4 through 7 two or more times with radiator cap installed until engine coolant level no longer drops.
10. Check cooling system for leaks with engine running.
11. Warm up the engine, and check for sound of engine coolant flow while running engine from idle up to 3,000 rpm with heater temperature controller set at several position between “COOL” and “WARM”.
Sound may be noticeable at heater unit.
12. Repeat step 11 three times.
13. If sound is heard, bleed air from cooling system by repeating step 4 through 7 until engine coolant level no
longer drops.
FLUSHING COOLING SYSTEM
1. Install reservoir tank, and radiator drain plug.
If water drain plugs on cylinder block are removed, close and tighten them. Refer to EM-123, "
Dis-
assembly and Assembly".
2. Remove air relief plug on heater hose.
3. Fill radiator with water until water spills from the ai r relief hole, then close air relief plug. Fill radiator and
reservoir tank with water and reinstall radiator cap. Reservoir tank engine coolant capacity
