a. Remove lower mounting bolt.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to drop mounting bolt inside timing chain
case.
b. Loosen upper mounting bolt slowly, and then turn chain ten- sioner (primary) on the mounting bolt so that plunger is fully
expanded.
NOTE:
Even if plunger is fully expanded, it is not dropped from the body
of timing chain tensioner (primary).
c. Turn crankshaft pulley clockwise so that timing chain on the tim- ing chain tensioner (primary) side is loose.
d. Remove upper mounting bolt, and then remove timing chain ten- sioner (primary).
CAUTION:
Be careful not to drop mounting bolt inside timing chain
case.
8. Remove water pump as follows:
a. Remove three water pump mounting bolts. Secure a gap between water pump gear and timing chain, by turning crank-
shaft pulley counterclockwise until timing chain looseness on
water pump sprocket becomes maximum.

b. Screw M8 bolts [pitch: 1.25 mm (0.0492 in) length: approx. 50
mm (1.97 in)] into water pumps upper and lower mounting bolt
holes until they reach timing chain case. Then, alternately
tighten each bolt for a half turn, and pull out water pump.
CAUTION:
Pull straight out while pr eventing vane from contacting
socket in installation area.
Remove water pump without causing sprocket to contact timing chain.
c. Remove M8 bolts and O-rings from water pump. CAUTION:
Do not disassemble water pump.
INSPECTION AFTER REMOVAL
Check for badly rusted or corroded water pump body assembly.
Check for rough operation due to excessive end play.
If anything is found, replace water pump.
INSTALLATION
1. Install new O-rings to water pump. Apply engine oil and engine coolant to O-rings as shown in the
figure.
Locate O-ring with white paint mark to engine front side.
2. Install water pump. CAUTION:
Do not allow cylinder block to nip O-rings when installing
water pump.
Make sure timing chain and water pump sprocket are engaged.
Insert water pump by tightening mounting bolts alternately and evenly.
3. Install timing chain tensioner (primary) as follows:

b. Apply a continuous bead of liquid gasket with the tube presser
(commercial service tool) to mating surface of chain tensioner
cover and water pump cover.
Use Genuine RTV Silicone Seal ant or equivalent. Refer to
GI-44, "
Recommended Chemical Product and Sealant".
CAUTION:
Attaching should be done with in 5 minutes after coating.
c. Tighten mounting bolts.
5. Install water drain plug (front) on water pump side of cylinder block. Apply liquid gasket to the thread of water drain plug (front).
Use Genuine RTV Silicone Sealant or equivalent. Refer to GI-44, "
Recommended Chemical Prod-
uct and Sealant".
6. Install in the reverse order of removal for remaining parts. After starting engine, let idle fo r three minutes, then rev engine up to 3,000 rpm under no load to
purge air from the high-pressure chamber of ch ain tensioner. Engine may produce a rattling
noise. This indicates that air still remains in the chamber and is not a matter of concern.
INSPECTION AFTER INSTALLATION
Check for leaks of engine coolant using the radiator cap tester adapter (commercial service tool) and the
radiator cap tester (commercial service tool). Refer to CO-10, "
Inspection".
Start and warm up the engine. Visually make sure that there is no leaks of engine coolant.

Side Distance Guideline CorrectionINFOID:0000000001328535
This mode is used to modify the side distance guidelines if they are dislocated from the rear view monitor
image, because of variations of body/camera mounting conditions.
SIDE DISTANCE GUIDELINE CORRECTION PROCEDURE
1. Create a correction line to modify the screen.
Draw lines on the rearward of the vehicle passing through the
following points: 0.25 m (9.84 in) from both sides of the vehicle,
and 0.5 m (1.64 ft), 1 m (3.28 ft), 2 m (6.56 ft), and 3 m (9.84 ft)
from the rear end of the bumper.
2. Select “REARVIEW CAMERA” on CONSULT-III. CAUTION:
Stop engine for the safety when correcting side distance guideline.
3. Shift A/T selector lever to R position.
4. Select “SELCT GUIDELINE PATTERN”.
5. Select “UP” or “DOWN”, and select the guide line, “PATTERN NO. 0” or “PATTERN NO. 1”, which is the
closest to the corrected line.
SELCT GUIDELINE PATTERN Side distance guideline is optional from two patterns.
ADJ GUIDELINE POSITION Side distance guideline is adjustable toward up and down, right and left.

ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM
*1: This sensor is not used to control the engine system under normal conditions.
*2: This signal is sent to the ECM through CAN communication line.
*3: ECM determines the start signal status by the signals of engine speed and battery voltage.
SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
The amount of fuel injected from the fuel injector is
determined by the ECM. The ECM controls the length of
time the valve remains open (injection pulse duration). T he amount of fuel injected is a program value in the
ECM memory. The program value is preset by engi ne operating conditions. These conditions are determined
by input signals (for engine speed and intake air) from both the crankshaft position sensor and the mass air
flow sensor.
VARIOUS FUEL INJECTION I NCREASE/DECREASE COMPENSATION
In addition, the amount of fuel injected is compens ated to improve engine performance under various operat-
ing conditions as listed below.
When starting the engine
During acceleration
Hot-engine operation
When selector lever is changed from N to D
High-load, high-speed operation
During high engine speed operation
MIXTURE RATIO FEEDBACK CONTROL (CLOSED LOOP CONTROL)
The mixture ratio feedback system prov ides the best air-fuel mixture ratio for driveability and emission control.
The three way catalyst 1 can then better reduce CO, HC and NOx emissions. This system uses air fuel ratio

INPUT/OUTPUT SIGNAL CHART
*1: This signal is sent to the ECM through CAN communication line.
*2: ECM determines the start signal status by the signals of engine speed and battery voltage.
SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
Firing order: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6
The ignition timing is controlled by the ECM to maintain the best air-fuel ratio for every running condition of the
engine. The ignition timing data is stored in the ECM.
The ECM receives information such as the injection pulse width and camshaft position sensor (PHASE) sig-
nal. Computing this information, ignition si gnals are transmitted to the power transistor.
During the following conditions, the ignition timing is re vised by the ECM according to the other data stored in
the ECM.
At starting
During warm-up
At idle
At low battery voltage
During acceleration
The knock sensor retard system is designed only for emergencies. The basic ignition timing is programmed
within the anti-knocking zone, if recommended fuel is used under dry conditions. The retard system does not
operate under normal driving conditions. If engine knocking occurs, the knock sensor monitors the condition.
The signal is transmitted to the ECM. The ECM retards the ignition timing to eliminate the knocking condition.
