Rear window shelf
You can place li gh t a rticles of cl othing on the re ar
window shelf behind the sea tbac k.
& WARNING
When driv ing , do not leave any hard objects on the rear w indow
s helf or allow your pet to sit on the shelf . They could be come a
hazard for vehicle oc cup ant s i n the event of sudden bra king or a
c rash .

• A vent slot is located between t he shel f and the rear window . Do
not b lock the vent with any items you may place on the rear window
she lf.
• Do not place bulky items on the rear window shelf as they could
res trict or b lock the driver's vision in the rear view mirro r.•

design and the function of the seat. The seats are adjusted by
moving the switches following this log ic .

T he massage function runs for ab out 10 minutes . The pa ssenger's
bac k is massaged by continuous ad justment of the lumbar support.
T he curvature of the lumbar support can also be ad justed during the
Mas sag e to mak e it mo re or less aggr ess ive . T hi s va ries the in tens ity
of the
Massage to the level desired by the occupant.
O nce the mas sage func tion s tops after abou t 10 m inutes, the
l umbar support automatically returns to th e position in which it was
l a st set.

The socket of the ci gare tte l ighter may be used for 12-volt appli ­
ances with maximum consumption of up to 100 watts , such as a
flash light, small vacuum c leaner, etc .
Before you purchase any accessories , always read and fo llow the

& WARNING
Improper use of the cigarette lighter can cause ser ious injury or
start a fire .
• Be careful when using the cigarette lighter . If you do not pay
attention to what you are do ing when you are using the cigarette
lighter you can burn yourself .
• The cigarette lighter and socket remain functional even if the
ignition is switched off or the ignition key is removed. Never leave
c hildren inside the vehi cle without supervision.

• Only use the cigarette lighter socket as a power source for elec ­
tr ical accesso ries for sh ort du rations. Use the sockets in the vehic le

T here are three storage co mpartments in the long center console in
t he rear :
Left storage compartment
The le ft sto rage c om partm ent co ntain s two 12 -v o lt so ckets. The 12 -
volt sockets can be used for electrica l accessories. The power
co nsumption a t a sing le plug mus t no t exceed 100 watts .
Center storage compartment
Th e cen te r storag e compar tment is suitabl e fo r hol ding small items .
Right storage compartment
T he right storage co mpart ment is suita ble for hold ing smal l items.
& WARNING
T he socket plus any appliances plugged into it remain functional
even if the ignition is switched off or the ignition key is removed.
Never leave children in side the vehicle without supervision.

Warm and cold
Climate controls
Description
The air conditioner is fully automatic and is designed to
maintain a comfortable and uniform climate inside the
vehicle.
We recommend the following settings:
- Set the temperature to 75 °F (+23 °C).
- Press the !AUTO
I button.
With this setting, you attain maximum comfort in the least amount
of time. Change this setting, as desired, to meet your personal needs.
The climate controls are a combination of heating, ventilation and cooling systems, which automatically reduce humidity and cool the
air inside your vehicle.
The air temperature, air flow and air distribution are automatically
regulated to achieve and maintain the desired passenger compart­
ment temperature as quickly as possible.
The system automatically compensates for changes in outside
temperature and for the intensity of the sunlight entering the
vehicle. We recommend you use the
Automatic mode=> page 117
for year -round comfort.
Please note the following:
Turn on the air conditioner to reduce humidity in the vehicle. This also prevents the windows from fogging up.
When the outside temperature is high and the air is very humid ,
condensation from the evaporator may drip under the vehicle. This
is normal and does not indicate a leak. If the outside temperature is
low, the fan normally only switches to
a higher speed once the engine coolant has warmed up sufficiently.
The air conditioner temporarily switches off when you drive off from
a standstill using full throttle to save engine power.
The compressor also switches off if the coolant temperature is too high, so that the engine can be adequately cooled under extreme
loads.
Air pollutants filter
The air pollutants filter (a combined particle filter and activated
charcoal filter) reduces or prevents outside air pollution (dust, or pollen) from entering the vehicle.
The air pollutants filter must be changed at the intervals specified
in your Warranty
& Maintenance booklet, so that the air conditioner
can properly work.
If you drive your vehicle in an area with high air pollution, the filter
may need to be changed more frequently than specified in your
Audi Warranty
& Maintenance booklet. If in doubt, ask your autho­
rized Audi Service Advisor for advice.
Key coded settings
The air conditioner settings selected are automatically stored and
assigned to the key being used. When the vehicle is started, the air
conditioner automatically selects the settings assigned to that key.
This way every driver will maintain his/her own personal settings
and does not have to reset them manually.
If a different driver uses your key and changes the air conditioner
settings, the latest adjustments will erase and replace the settings
you have stored.
Energy management
To prevent the battery from being discharged and to restore the
balance of energy, components which require large amounts of

Heated rear seats
The seat cushions and seat backs of the two outer rear
seats can be heated electrically.

- Rotate the thumb wheel © to turn on and adjust the
heating for the left rear seat.
- Rotate the thumb wheel
® to turn on and adjust the
heating for the right rear seat .
With the thumb wheel in the O position, heating for the seats is
turned off . The range of adjustment is from 1 to 6 .

on the seats or place heavy loads on a small area of the seat .•

When the steering whee l heating is switched on , the steering wheel
is heat ed to about 82°F (28°C) and held th ere.
The last setting se lected for the steering wheel heating (on or off) is
automatically saved when the vehicle is shut of f and is assigned to
the remote key. •

Easy entry feature
The easy entry feature makes it easier to enter and exit the
vehicle by automatically adjusting the steering wheel.
Press the button @ ::::> page 128, fig . 143 to turn the easy
entry feature on or off.
When the easy entry feature is tu rned on (bu tton depressed), the
steering wheel moves up to the parked position when the ignition is
turned off. After you en ter the vehicle, the steer ing wheel moves to
the stored position as soon as you turn on the ignition. •

The ignition key can be inserted into the ignition switch in this posi ­
tion. This automatically unlocks the steering column lock. When the ignition key is removed, the stee ring co lumn lock is automatically

The engine starts with the key in this position . Major electrical loads

mo ving . The stee ring wheel will lo ck, c au sing loss of control.
• If you have to leave your veh icle, even for ju st a minute , al ways
remove the ignition key and take it with you. Thi s is esp eciall y
important if you are going to lea ve ch ildren unatten ded in the
vehi cle . The ch ildren co uld start the eng ine or u se other vehicle
c ontrol s. Un super vis ed u se of veh icle control s (for e xam ple , po wer
windows ) can cause seriou s personal inj uries .

• I f the~ symbo l in the display blinks, there is a malfunction in the
e lectron ic steering column lock. Fo llow the instructions in
=> page 33 , "Steering malfunction i".
• If the .Pc symbol in the display b links, there is a malfunct ion in
the electronic ignition lock. Follow the instructions

Ignition key safety lock
The igni tio n key can only be re move d when the selector
lever is in the
"P" (P ark) posi tion.
After turning off the ignition , the igni tion key can only be removed
from the ignition lock when the selec tor lever is in the
"P" (Park)
position . Af ter you have removed the key , the selector lever is locked
and cannot be moved .•

A cold engine may sound loud after it has be en started. This is due
to the hydrau lic valves building up oil pressure. This is normal and
is not a n eed fo r concern .
I f the engine does not start immediately, stop trying after 10
seconds and then try to restart the engine about 30 seconds later .
& WARNING
Never start or let the engine run in a confined or en clo sed are a.
Exhaust fumes from the engine contain carbon monoxide, a color ­
less and odorle ss gas . Carbon mono xide can be fatal if inhaled.
• Never leave the engine idling unattended. An unattended
vehicle with a running engine po ses a dange r of person al injury or
theft.

• Avo id high e ngine speeds, fast accelerati on or heavy eng ine
loads while the engine is still cold. This could damage the engine.
• The eng ine ca nnot be s tarted by push ing or towi ng the ve hicle.
To avoid unnecessary engine wear and to reduce exhaust emis ­
sions, do not let your vehic le stand and warm up. Be ready to drive
off im mediately afte r starting your vehicle . Maintain modera te
speed until the engine is completely warm . Remember , the engine
performs best at operating temperature. •

Stopping the engine

& WARNING
• Never turn off the engine until the vehicle has come to a
complete stop.
• The brake booster and servotronic only work when the engine
is running. With the ignition turned off, you have to apply more
force when steering or braking. Since you cannot steer and stop normally, this can lead to accidents and serious injuries .
• The radiator fan can continue to run for up to 10 minutes even
after you have turned off the engine and removed the ignition key.
The radiator fan can also turn on again if the engine coolant heats
up because of intense sunlight or heat build-up in the engine
compartment.

Do not stop the engine immediately after hard or extended driving.
Keep the engine running for approximately two minutes to prevent
excessive heat build-up.•
