acoustic park assist
A pplies to vehicles : with 4 -c h an nel a cou sti c par k ass is t
Rear acoustic park assist
The rear acoustic park assist warns you of obstacles or
objects behind your car.
How it wor ks
The acoustic park assist warning system (4 -channel acoustic park
assist) uses ultrasonic sensors to warn you when you are
backing
your vehicle close to an obstac le . The system 's 4 sensors are located
inside the rear bumper.
A cti va ting
The rea r acoustic park ass ist is activa ted whenever you shift into
Re verse . You will hear a warn ing tone when the system is on.
Reverse
With the car backing up in reverse gear, the collision warning sound
se ts in at the fo llowing
approximate d istances to obstacles:
st raight a ft 5ft(
1.5ml
a ngl ing aft of f ve hicle corners 2 ft (0.6 ml
As the distance shr inks, the time interval between the audible tones
grows shorter.
The sound changes to a continuous tone as soon as the remaining
d istance to an obstacle c loses to less than about 1 ft. (0.3 ml. The
steady tone cautions you that you have backed up hazardously
close and you risk co llis ion by back ing up any furt her .
Malfunction s in the system
If a warning tone is audible for about five seconds when you turn on
the ignition, there is a ma lfunction in the system . Have the prob lem
corrected by your authorized Aud i dealer.
Controls and equip
ment
Keep the sensors in the rear bumper clean and free from ic e so t hat
the acoustic park assist system can funct ion proper ly .
& WARNING
• Sensors have dead spaces in which object s cannot be
detected . Be especiall y alert for small ch ildren and animals , since
they are not always dete cted by the sensor s.
• The acousti c pa rk assist system is not a substitute for the
driver's own caution and alertne ss . Ultimate re sponsibility alway s
remains w ith the driver dur ing parking and s imilar maneuvers .
Alway s watch where you are driving _
0 Note
• Remem ber t hat low obstac les for wh ich a warning has already
been issued may "dive" below the system's sensing zone if the
veh ic le is be ing bac ked up cl oser. In this case, the warning sound
shutting off does
not indica te that you have cleared the obstacle .
Instead , impact is imminent.
• Objects such as trai ler hitches, barrier chains, narrow posts or
f ences covered by a th in laye r of pa int may not always be detected
by the system . T hey can sti ll damage your vehic le without a
warning.
[ i ] Tips
Keep the sensors in the rear bumper clean and free of snow and ice
so that the acoust ic park ing ass ist system can function properly .•

Rolling code programming
A rolling code is programmed in two phases: at the
garage door opener motor and inside the vehicle at the
overhead keypad.
Phase 1:
programming the garage door opener motor
1. Make sure that your vehicle is located within operat ing
range of the remote controlled garage door opener.
2. Locate the set button (teach button) on the garage door
opener motor (refer to the operating instructions for the
garage door opener).
3. Press the set button (teach button) on the garage door
opener motor.
Phase 2: programming the overhead keypad
4. Set the parking brake.
5. Turn the ignition on. Do not start the engine!
6. On the overhead keypad press the button for the previ
ously programmed transmitter channel.
7. Press this button a
second time in order to finish the
rolling code programming.
Controls and equip
ment The vehicle should be
located no further than 15 ft (5 m) from the
remote controlled garage door opener to remain within the average
signal range o f mos t remote con trolled systems.
Refer to the garage door opener operating instructions to locate the
set button (t each button) on the garage door opener motor .
After the keypad has been programmed, the g arage door opener
should recognize the radio frequency s ignal from the Homelink ®
Universal Remote Control and respond to signals from it.
[ i] Tips
Having a second person assist you makes programming of the
rolling code easier and faster . For some makes of garage door
op eners t he Homelink ® button may have to b e press ed a third time
to complete the teaching sequence. •

& WARNING
Although the ABS is very effective, always remember that braking
capability is limited by tire traction. Always adjust your driving
speed according to the road and traffic conditions. Do not let the
extra safety afforded by the ABS tempt you into taking extra risks.
The ABS cannot overcome the laws of physics.
[ i] Tips
• If ABS is not functioning properly, a warning light will come on.
See~ page 21.
• If a fault occurs in the ABS , the EDL is also not functioning. This
is indicated by the ABS warning light. •
Brake assistant
The brake assistant is designed to achieve the optimum
braking effect.
The brake assistant helps to increase the effective braking power
and thus to achieve a shorter stopping distance . If the driver
presses the brake pedal very quickly, the brake assistant automati
cally boosts the braking force to the maximum level, up to the point
where the anti-lock brake function (ABS) intervenes to stop the
wheels from locking. You should then keep the brake pedal pressed
until the vehicle has braked to the required speed. The brake assis
tant switches itself off as soon as you release the brake pedal.
The brake assistant will not be operative if there is a malfunction in
the ABS.
Controls and equip
ment Safety first
Vehicle operation
& WARNING
Please remember that the accident risk always increases if you
drive too fast, especially in corners or on a slippery road, or if you
follow the vehicle ahead of you too closely. An increased accident
risk cannot be compensated even by the brake assistant, so
always maintain a safe speed. •
Servotronic® -advanced power
steering system
The power steering systems uses the power of the
running engine to allow precise steering with little effort. Your Audi is equipped with the electronically controlled
Servotronic® advanced power steering system. It adjusts
the degree of steering assistance to the roadspeed.
The advanced Servotronic ® power steering system senses the road
speed and electronically adjusts power assistance to provide
comfortable and safe steering response exactly matched to the
vehicle speed .
Power steering will not work if the engine is off. As a result, the
steering wheel will be hard to turn.
The power steering fluid level is checked during the scheduled
maintenance services.
0 Note
If there is an electronic malfunction, servotronic will still function
like a conventional power steering system, providing a constant
steering support force that is no longer proportionate to the vehicle
speed . This is most noticeable when turning the steering wheel at
low speeds (for example when parking), -more effort will be
required than usual.
