BRAKING ASSISTANCE SYSTEMS
Group of supplementary systems which
help you to obtain optimum braking in
complete safety in emergency situations:
- the anti-lock braking system (ABS),
- the electronic brake force distribu-tion (EBFD),
- the emergency braking assistance (EBA).
Anti-lock braking system and electronic brake force distribution
Linked systems which improve the sta-
bility and manoeuvrability of your vehi-
cle when braking, in particular on poor
or slippery surfaces.
When braking in an emergency,
p r e s s v e r y fi r m l y w i t h o u t r e l e a s i n g
the pressure. When replacing wheels (tyres and
rims), ensure that they conform to
the manufacturer’s recommenda-
tions.
Operating fault
If this warning light comes on,
accompanied by an audible
signal and a message on the
multi-function display, it indicates
a malfunction of the anti-lock braking sys-
tem which could result in loss of control of
the vehicle when braking.
If this warning light comes on,
together with the STOP and
ABS warning lights, accompa-
nied by an audible signal and a
message on the multifunction display, it
indicates a malfunction of the electronic
brake force distribution which could
result in loss of control of the vehicle
when braking.
You must stop as soon as it is safe
to do so.
Emergency braking assistance
System which, in an emergency, ena-
bles you to obtain the optimum braking
pressure more quickly, thus reducing
the stopping distance.
Activation
The anti-lock braking system comes
into operation automatically when there
is a risk of wheel lock.
Normal operation of the ABS may make
itself felt by slight vibration of the brake
pedal. Activation
It is triggered by the speed at which the
brake pedal is pressed.
The effect of this is a reduction in the
resistance of the pedal and an increase
i n b r a k i n g e f fi c i e n c y .
In both cases, contact a CITROËN
dealer. When braking in an emergency,
p r e s s fi r m l y w i t h o u t r e l e a s i n g t h e
pressure.

Seat belt not fastened/unfastened
warning light
Fastening
Pull the strap, then insert the tongue
in the buckle.
Check that the seat belt is fastened
correctly by pulling the strap.
To lower the attachment point,
squeeze the control A and slide it
downwards.
To raise the attachment point, slide
the control A upwards.
When the ignition is switched
on, this warning light comes on,
either on the instrument panel
or on the seat belt and passen-
ger’s front air bag warning lights display,
if the driver and/or the front passenger
has not fastened his seat belt.
From approximately 12 mph (20 km/h)
t h i s w a r n i n g l i g h t fl a s h e s f o r t w o m i n u t e s
accompanied by an audible signal. Once
these two minutes have elapsed, this
warning light remains on until the driver
and/or the front passenger fastens his
seat belt.
Unfastening
Press the red button on the buckle.
Guide the seat belt as it rolls up. SEAT BELTS
Front seat belts
T h e f r o n t s e a t b e l t s a r e fi t t e d w i t h a p r e -
tensioning and force limiting system.
This system improves safety in the front
seats in the event of a front impact.
Depending on the severity of the
impact, the pretensioning system
instantly tightens the seat belts against
the body of the occupants.
The pretensioning seat belts are active
when the ignition is on.
The force limiter reduces the pressure
of the seat belt on the chest of the occu-
pant, so increasing his protection.

Rear seat belts
T h e r e a r s e a t s a r e e a c h fi t t e d w i t h a
three-point inertia reel seat belt with
force limiter (with the exception of the
rear centre seat).
Locking
When the rear side side belts are not being
used, you can lock them in place. To do so:
Raise the bracket A to its maximum
height.
Fastening
Pull the strap, then insert the tongue
in the buckle.
Check that the seat belt is fastened
correctly by pulling the strap.
Seat belt unfastened warning lights
display
When the ignition is switched on, the cor-
responding warning lights 4 , 5 and 6 come
o n i n r e d f o r a p p r o x i m a t e l y 3 0 s e c o n d s , i f
the seat belt is not fastened.
When the engine is running or the vehicle
is moving, the corresponding warning light
4 , 5 or 6 comes on in red, accompanied by
an audible signal and a message on the
multifunction display, if a rear passenger
has unfastened his seat belt.
Unfastening
Press the red button on the buckle.
Guide the seat belt as it rolls up.
The corresponding warning light 2 or 3
comes on in red on the seat belt and
passenger’s front air bag warning lights
display if the seat belt is not fastened or
is unfastened. Seat belt unfastened warning light
This warning light comes on, either
on the instrument panel or on the
seat belt and passenger’s front air
bag warning lights display, when one
or more rear passengers unfasten
their seat belt.
From approximately 12 mph (20 km/h), this
w a r n i n g l i g h t fl a s h e s f o r t w o m i n u t e s a c c o m -
panied by an audible signal of increasing
volume. Once these two minutes have elapsed,
this warning light remains on until the one or
more rear passengers fasten their seat belt.

If at least one of the two air bag
warning lights come on continu-
ously, do not install a child seat on
the front passenger seat.
Have the system checked by a
CITROËN dealer.
Operating fault If this warning light comes on on
the instrument panel, accompa-
nied by an audible warning and
a message on the multifunction
display, contact a CITROËN dealer to
have the system checked. The air bags
may no longer be triggered in the event
of a serious impact.
Reactivation
When you remove the child seat, turn
switch
1 to the "ON" position to re-arm
the air bag and so guarantee the safety
of your front passenger in the event of
an impact.
With the ignition on, this warn-
ing light comes on on the instru-
ment panel or on the seat belt
and passenger's front air bag
warning lights display for approximately
one minute, if the passenger's front air
bag is activated. To guarantee the safety of your child,
it is imperative that the passenger's
front air bag is disarmed when you
install a "rearwards-facing" child seat
on the front passenger seat.
Otherwise, the child would risk be-
i n g s e r i o u s l y i n j u r e d o r k i l l e d i f t h e a i r
bag were triggered.
According to version, this warn-
ing light comes on either on
the instrument panel or on the
seat belt and passenger's front
air bag warning lights display when the
ignition is on and until the air bag is re-
armed. I f t h i s w a r n i n g l i g h t fl a s h e s ,
contact a CITROËN dealer.
The passenger's front air bag
may no longer be triggered in
the event of a serious impact.
Deactivation
Only the passenger's front air bag can
be disarmed:
with the ignition off
insert the key
in the passenger air bag disarming
switch 1 ,
turn it to the "OFF" position,
then, remove the key keeping the
switch in this position.

The towing eye is installed under the

To gain access to it:
open the boot,
r e m o v e t h e m o v a b l e b o o t fl o o r ,
lift up the boot carpet,
remove the towing eye from the tool
h o l d e r . When towing with all four wheels on
t h e g r o u n d , a l w a y s u s e a t o w b a r .
When towing with only two wheels
on the ground, always use profes-
s i o n a l l i f t i n g e q u i p m e n t .
When towing with the engine off,
there is no longer any braking or
s t e e r i n g a s s i s t a n c e .
Failure to observe this special con-
dition could result in damage to
certain braking components and
the absence of braking assistance

TOWING A TRAILER, A CARAVAN, ETC.
Your vehicle is primarily designed for
transporting people and luggage, but it
m a y a l s o b e u s e d f o r t o w i n g a t r a i l e r . Driving advice
The maximum towing load on a long
slope depends on the gradient and the
o u t s i d e t e m p e r a t u r e .
In all cases, pay attention to the coolant
t e m p e r a t u r e .
Side wind
Take into account the increased
s e n s i t i v i t y t o s i d e w i n d .
Cooling
Towing a trailer on a slope increases
t h e t e m p e r a t u r e o f t h e c o o l a n t .
As the fan is electrically controlled, its
cooling capacity is not dependent on
t h e e n g i n e s p e e d .
To lower the engine speed, reduce
y o u r s p e e d . Braking
Towing a trailer increases the braking
d i s t a n c e .
Tyres
Check the tyre pressures of the towing
vehicle and of the trailer, observing the
r e c o m m e n d e d p r e s s u r e s .
Lights
Check the electrical signalling on
t h e t r a i l e r .
The rear parking assistance will
be deactivated automatically if an
o r i g i n a l C I T R O Ë N t o w b a r i s u s e d .
If the warning light and the
STOP warning light come
on, stop the vehicle and
switch off the engine as
s o o n a s p o s s i b l e .
Towbar suited to the attachment of a
trailer or caravan with additional signal-
l i n g a n d l i g h t i n g .
Distribution of loads

that the heaviest items are as close
as possible to the axle and the nose
weight approaches the maximum
p e r m i t t e d w i t h o u t e x c e e d i n g i t .
Air density decreases with altitude, thus
r e d u c i n g e n g i n e p e r f o r m a n c e . A b o v e
1 000 metres, the maximum towing load
must be reduced by 10 % and so on for
e v e r y 1 0 0 0 m e t r e s o f a l t i t u d e .
