These controls are used to individually set the temperature for both sid\
es of the passenger compartment. Please note
that the compartment will not be heated or cooled faster by setting the \
temperature higher or lower than necessary.
Set the control to the temperature you prefer.
Defroster
This function defrosts/ de-ices the windshield and front side windows. T\
he LED in the switch will light up to
indicate that the defrost function is engaged.
l Blower speed increases automatically and the air conditioning will switc\
h on (if not already on and if the
passenger compartment blower is not turned off) to dehumidify the air i\
n the passenger compartment.
l Recirculation will not function while defrost is engaged.
l The climate system will return to its previous settings when the defrost\
er function is switched off.
Blower control
Turn the control clockwise to increase or counterclockwise to decrease t\
he blower speed. Pressing the AUTO
switch will automatically regulate blower speed and override manual adju\
stment.
Turning the blower control counterclockwise until an orange LED comes on\
will turn both the blower and the air
conditioning off.

cushion up or down.
3. Raise/lower seat height: pump the seat up or down.
4. Lumbar support: turn the control for firmer or softer lumbar support.\
5. Backrest tilt: turn the control to adjust the angle of the backrest. \
6. Control panel for optional power seat (see
page 86 for more information).
WARNING!
l Do not adjust the seat while driving. The seat should be adjusted so tha\
t the brake pedal can be
depressed fully. In addition, position the seat as far rearward as comfo\
rt and control allow.
l Check that the seat is securely locked into position after adjusting.

Folding the backrests in the front seat
The front passenger seat backrest can be folded to a horizontal position\
to make room for a long load.
Fold the backrest as follows:
- Move the seat as far back as possible.
- Adjust the backrest to the upright position.
- Lift the catches on the rear of the backrest.
- Without releasing the catches, push the backrest forward.
- Move the seat as far forward as possible so that the head restraint sl\
ides under the glove compartment.

Operation
Driver's seat: The seat can be adjusted if the ignition key is in position I, II or if\
the engine is running.
It can also be adjusted as follows with the ignition off:
l Within several minutes after the driver's door has been unlocked from th\
e outside, has been opened,
and remains open.
l Within a short period if the driver's door has just been closed.
l Within a short period if the driver's door has not been opened after the\
ignition has been switched off.
Passenger seat: The seat can only be adjusted if the ignition key is in position I, II \
or if the engine is
running.
Power seat control panel

If your Volvo is equipped with power seats, the following may be adjuste\
d with the two switches at the
side of the seat:
A. Front edge of seat (raise/lower)
B. Front - rear
C. Rear edge of seat (raise/lower)

NOTE: The power seats have an overload protector that activates if a seat is \
blocked by any object. If
this occurs, switch off the ignition (key in position 0) and wait for \
a short period before operating the
seat again.
Emergency stop
If the seat accidentally begins to move, press any of the buttons to sto\
p the seat.
NOTE: Please refer to the following page for information on programming the m\
emory function in the
driver's seat.
Remote keyless entry system and the driver's seat
The remote control transmitter also controls the position of the electri\
cally operated driver's seat in the
following way:
- Adjust the seat to your preferences.
- When you leave your vehicle, lock it using the remote control.
The position of the seat is now stored in the remote control.
Automatic seat adjustment
To move the seat to the position in which you left it:
- Unlock the driver's door with the same remote control (the one used t\
o lock the doors).
- Open the driver's door within 2 minutes.
The driver's seat will automatically move to the position in which you l\
eft it.
NOTE:
l The seat will move to this position even if someone else has moved it to\
a different seating position
and locked the vehicle with a different remote control.

l This feature will work in the same way with all of the remote control tr\
ansmitters (up to 3) that you
use with your vehicle.
l This feature will not function if your lock your vehicle with the key.

Reading lights and courtesy light
1. Driver's side front reading lamp
2. Courtesy lights
3. Passenger's side front reading lamp
The reading lights can be switched on or off by pressing buttons 1 or 3.\
The courtesy light can be turned on or off by pressing button 2.
4. Driver's side rear reading light
5. Passenger's side rear reading light
The rear reading lights can be switched on and off by pressing buttons 4\
or 5.
Automatic function
The reading lights and courtesy lights will switch off automatically app\
roximately 10 minutes after the
engine has been turned off. The lights can be turned off sooner by press\
ing the respective buttons.
The courtesy lights come on automatically
1 and remain on for approximately 30 seconds when:
l The vehicle has been unlocked from the outside with the remote control o\
r key
l If the engine has been switched off and the ignition key has been turned\
to position 0

The courtesy lights will come on and remain on for approximately 10 minu\
tes when:
l One of the doors is opened (assuming the courtesy lighting has not prev\
iously been switched off)
The courtesy lighting will go off when:
l The engine is started
l The vehicle is locked from the outside with the remote control or key
The automatic function can be disconnected by pressing button 2 for more\
than 3 seconds.
Briefly pressing the button again automatically reconnects the function.\
The courtesy light timer periods can be changed. Contact your Volvo reta\
iler.
1. This function is light dependent and is only activated in dark condit\
ions.

Rear seat backrest
To increase loading capacity, the angle of the rear seat backrest(s) c\
an be adjusted to two positions while
the backrest is in the upright position.
- Press the catch until the red mark is visible (B in the illustration \
above).
- Depending on the backrests' current angle, push or pull the backrest r\
earward/ forward to a new locked
position.
- Make sure that the backrest is secured in a locked position and that t\
he red mark is no longer visible (A
in the illustration above).
Folding down the rear seat backrests
The rear seat is split in two sections and each section can be folded fo\
rward separately.
Before folding the backrests down:
- Adjust the front seat backrests to a more upright position if they are\
excessively reclined.
- Fold down the outboard head restraint(s) by pulling the strap at the\
base of the head restraint as shown
in the inset illustration above.
- Pull the strap on the rear seat cushion and pull the cushion forward a\
gainst the front seat backrests.

- Lower the head restraint (see previous page).
- Press the center section backrest catch to the rear and tilt the backr\
est forward.

Extending the cargo area
NOTE: Make sure that the holes in the plastic ferrules on the top of the back\
rest engage the hooks on
the bottom of the seat cushion.
When you later raise the backrest and seat cushion, the head restraints \
must be returned to their normal
positions.
WARNING!
l The red lock indicator is not visible when the backrest is correctly loc\
ked in place.
l The red lock indicator IS VISIBLE when the backrest is NOT locked in pos\
ition (see the
illustration on the previous page).
l The backrest must be securely locked when it is returned to the upright \
position. The word
"UNLOCKED" on the lock indicator should not be visible.
l When the rear seat is folded down, do not place heavy objects against th\
e backs of the front seats.
This places a severe strain on the folded down backrest of the rear seat\
.
l Be sure to secure cargo. Cargo must not be stacked higher than the top o\
f seat backs. This will
reduce the possibility of luggage, etc. becoming projectiles during sudd\
en maneuvers, rapid braking
or an accident.
