Automatic climate control
Switching on automatic mode: Press

peatedly until “AUTO” mode is selected
in display.
Switching off rear climate control:

Switching off automatic mode: Press

Setting temperature: Use tempera-
ture controls 1and6 (

to separately adjust the air tempera-
ture on each side of the rear passenger
compartment.
Increasing/decreasing: Press
temperature control 1 or 6 up or
down.
The climate control system will cor-
respondingly adjust the interior air
temperature.
Adjusting air distribution: Press but-
ton 2 or 5 (
page 434) up or down
repeatedly until desired air distribution
is set.
The direction of the arrows represent
the air distribution. “MAN” appears in
the display over the button for the func-
tion mode.
Adjusting air volume Press air volume

The air volume is increased or de-
creased. “MAN” appears in the display
over the button for the function mode.

If the climate control system in the rear pas-
senger compartment is adjusted using COMAND
(
page 234), the) symbol appears in the
display of the rear control unit. The rear climate
control system can no longer be adjusted using
the rear control unit.

Panorama roof with power tilt/sliding panel*
The tilt/sliding panel only operates with
the roller sunblinds extended.

Switch on the ignition (

To open, close, raise, or lower the
tilt/sliding panel, move the roof panel
switch to resistance point in the re-
quired direction of arrows1 to4.
Release the roof panel switch when the
tilt/sliding panel has reached the de-
sired position.
Express-opening: Move the roof panel
switch past the resistance point in di-
rection of arrow1 and release.
The tilt/sliding panel opens
completely.
Express-raising: Move the roof panel
switch past the resistance point in di-
rection of arrow3 and release.
The tilt/sliding panel raises
completely.
Stopping during Express-operation:
Move the roof panel switch in any di-
rection.

When the panorama roof with power
tilt/sliding panel is open, resonance noises may
result in addition to the usual wind noises. They
are caused by minimal pressure changes in the
passenger compartment. To reduce or eliminate
these noises, change the position of the panora-
ma roof with power tilt/sliding panel or open a
side window slightly.

You can also open or close the tilt/sliding
panel using the SmartKey, see “Summer open-
ing feature” (
page 355) and “Convenience
closing feature” (page 356).
Depending on current position, the tilt/sliding
panel may also open or close when the air recir-
culation button, in the control panel of the
climate control (
page 424), is pressed and
held for 2 seconds.

If the front roller sunblind is retracted while
being raised, it will extend first.

hicle interior resulting in unconsciousness

To help avoid personal injury during a colli-
sion or sudden maneuver, exercise care
when storing objects in the vehicle. Put lug-
gage or cargo in the trunk if possible. Do not
pile luggage or cargo higher than the seat
backs.
Parcel nets cannot secure hard or heavy ob-
jects.
Keep compartment lids closed. This will help
to prevent stored objects from being thrown
about and injuring vehicle occupants during
braking
vehicle maneuvers or
an accident.

Useful features
Emergency calls
An emergency call is initiated
automatically following an accident in
which the emergency tensioning devices
(ETDs) or air bags deploy.An emergency call can also be initiated
manually by opening the cover next to the
interior rear view mirror labeled SOS, then
briefly pressing the button located under
the cover. For instructions on initiating an
emergency call manually (
page 464).
Once the emergency call is in progress, the
indicator lamp in the SOS button will begin
to flash. The message:
“Connecting call” appears in the multi-
function display
“Emergency Call Activated” appears in
the COMAND display
and the audio system is muted. When the
connection is established, the message:
“Call connected” appears in the multi-
function display
“Emergency Call Activated” appears in
the COMAND display All information relevant to the emergency,
such as the location of the vehicle (deter-
mined by the GPS satellite location sys-
tem), vehicle model, identification number
and color are generated.
A voice connection between the Response
Center and the occupants of the vehicle
will be established automatically soon af-
ter the emergency call has been initiated.
The Response Center will attempt to deter-
mine more precisely the nature of the acci-
dent provided they can speak to an
occupant of the vehicle.

If the indicator lamps in the SOS button, in
the Roadside Assistance button•
and/or in the Information button¡ do
not come on during the system self-check,
or if any of these indicators remain illuminat-
ed continuously in red and/or the message
“Tele Aid not activated” or “Tele Aid inopera-
tive” is displayed in the multifunction display
after the system self-check, a malfunction in
the system has been detected.
If a malfunction is indicated as outlined
above, the system may not operate as ex-
pected. Have the system checked at the
nearest Mercedes-Benz Center as soon as
possible.

During the emergency call message “Emer-
gency Call Activated” is displayed, operation
from COMAND is not possible. The automatic cli-
mate control can be still adjusted using the
switches on the climate control panel.

If no vehicle occupant responds, an ambu-
lance will be sent to the vehicle immediately.

Tire manufacturers are required to grade
tires based on three performance
factors: treadwear, traction and

Quality grades can be found, where appli-
cable, on the tire sidewall between tread
shoulder and maximum section width. For
example:All passenger car tires must conform to
federal safety requirements in addition to
these grades.
Treadwear
The treadwear grade is a comparative rat-
ing based on the wear rate of the tire when
tested under controlled conditions on a
specified government test course. For ex-
ample, a tire graded 150 would wear one
and one-half (1
1/2) times as well on the
government course as a tire graded 100.
The relative performance of tires depends
upon the actual conditions of their use,
however, and may depart significantly
from the norm due to variations in driving
habits, service practices and differences in
road characteristics and climate.
Warning!

Never exceed the max. tire inflation
pressure. Follow recommended tire inflation
pressures.
Do not underinflate tires. Underinflated tires
wear excessively and / or unevenly, adverse-
ly affect handling and fuel economy, and are
more likely to fail from being overheated.
Do not overinflate tires. Overinflated tires
can adversely affect handling and ride com-
fort, wear unevenly, increase stopping dis-
tance, and result in sudden deflation
(blowout) because they are more likely to
become punctured or damaged by road de-
bris, potholes etc.
