The spot weld on HSS panels is harder than that of an ordi-
nary steel panel.
Therefore, when cutting spot welds on a HSS panel, use a
low speed high torque drill (1,000 to 1,200 rpm) to increase
drill bit durability and facilitate the operation.
2. Precautions in spot welding HSS This work should be performed under standard working condi-
tions. Always note the following when spot welding HSS:

The electrode tip diameter must be sized properly according
to the metal thickness.

The panel surfaces must fit flush to each other, leaving no
gaps.

Follow the specifications for the proper welding pitch.

DISC ROTOR INSPECTION
Visual Inspection
Check surface of disc rotor for uneven wear, cracks, and serious damage. If any of them is detected, replace
applicable part.
Runout Inspection
1. Using wheel nuts, fix disc rotor to wheels hub. (2 or more positions)
2. Using a dial indicator, check runout.
CAUTION:
Before measuring, make sure that wheel bearing axle end
play is within the specification. Refer to FA X - 4 , "
WHEEL
BEARING INSPECTION" (2WD models), FA X - 1 0 , "WHEEL
BEARING INSPECTION" (AWD models).
3. If runout is outside the limit, find the minimum runout point by shifting the mounting positions of disc rotor and wheel hub by
one hole.
4. If runout is still out of specification, turn rotor with on-car brake lathe (“MAD, DL-8700”, “AMMCO 700 and 705” or equivalent).
Thickness Inspection
Using a micrometer, check thickness of disc rotor. If thickness is out-
side the specification, replace disc rotor.
Brake Burnishing ProcedureNFS000OD
Burnish brake pad contact surfaces of disc rotor according to following procedure after refinishing or replacing
drums or rotors, after replacing pads or linings, or if a soft pedal occurs at very low mileage.
CAUTION:

Be careful of vehicle speed because brake does not operate easily until pad and disc rotor are
securely fitted.

Only perform this procedure under safe road and traffic conditions. Use extreme caution.
1. Drive vehicle on straight, flat road.
2. Depress brake pedal with the power to stop vehicle within 3 to 5 seconds until the vehicle stops.
3. Drive without depressing brake for a few minutes to cool brake.
4. Repeat steps 1 to 3 until pad and disc rotor are securely fitted. Measurement point
: At a point 10.0 mm (0.394 in)
from outer edge of disc.
Runout limit : 0.04 mm (0.0016 in) or less

DISC ROTOR INSPECTION
Visual Inspection

locations marked “ ×” as shown in the table below (locations
indicated in the figure).

ADJUSTMENT

Perform adjustment depending on selected head thickness of valve lifter.
1. Measure the valve clearance. Refer to EM-93, "
INSPECTION" .
2. Remove camshaft. Refer to EM-84, "
REMOVAL" .
3. Remove valve lifters at the locations that are out of the standard.
4. Measure the center thickness of the removed valve lifters with a micrometer.
5. Use the equation below to calculate valve lifter thickness for replacement.

How to Select Piston and Bearing NBS003H7
DESCRIPTION
*: For the service parts, the grade for fitting cannot be selected between piston pin and connecting rod. (Only “0” grade is a vailable.) The
information at the shipment from the plant is described as a reference.

The identification grade stamped on each part is the grade for the dimension measured in new condition.
This grade cannot apply to reused parts.

For reused or repaired parts, measure the dimension accurately. Determine the grade by comparing the
measurement with the values of each selection table.

For details of the measurement method of each part, the reuse standards and the selection method of the
selective fitting parts, refer to the text.
HOW TO SELECT PISTON
When New Cylinder Block is Used
Check the cylinder bore grade (“1”, “2” or “3”) on rear side of cylinder
block, and select piston of the same grade.
NOTE:
Piston is available with piston pin as a set for the service part. (Only
“0” grade piston pin is available.)
When Cylinder Block is Reused
1. Measure the cylinder bore inner diameter. Refer to EM-145, "Cylinder Bore inner Diameter" .
2. Determine the bore grade by comparing the measurement with the values under the cylinder bore inner diameter of the “Piston
Selection Table”.
3. Select piston of the same grade.
