AUTOMATIC CHANGE CONTROL OF
BLOW WIND TEMPERATURE
(COMPRESSOR
ENERGY-CONSERVATION CONTROL)
Optimum ON/OFF control of the compressor is
achieved according to the outside/inside air mode,
air temperature (air temperature sensor), and insula
-
tion.
OUTSIDE/INSIDE AIR AUTO SWITCHING
CONTROL
When the A/C is turned on in high ambient tempera-
ture, the recirculation function is automatically acti-
vated to cool down the passenger compartment and
improve fuel consumption.
COOLING FUN LOAD CONTROL
Depending on the A/C load, the cooling fan cycle
time is controlled and the exterior noise in the inter
-
mediary stage is decreased. Also, the load of the
alternator is decreased to improve the fuel economy.
COOLING CONTROL
If air temperature is high, the CVT rotates at a high
speed to prevent deterioration in cooling perform
-
ance.
DETECTION CONTROL FOR
REFRIGERANT LEAKS
When it is judged from the air temperature (air tem-
perature sensor) and the refrigerant pressure (A/C
pressure sensor) that the refrigerant amount is the
specified value or less, or the refrigerant pressure is
abnormal, the compressor is forced to be cut off to
protect the A/C system.
MAX A/C CONTROL
When MAX COOL position is set, automatically the
mode is changed to the inside air mode before the
A/C is turned ON, thereby facilitating the operation
for obtaining maximum cooling performance.
ESTIMATION CONTROL FOR
COMPRESSOR TORQUE
Communication between the engine⋅CVT-ECU and
A/C-ECU is made to control the engine according to
the compressor torque for higher drivability and
reduction in fuel consumption.
FORCIBLE DEFROSTER CONTROL
When the defroster vents are selected, the A/C is
automatically turned ON. At this time, the out
-
side/inside air selection damper is operated to the
fresh-air position to defrost the windshield glass
quickly.

TARGETS OF DEVELOPMENT
M2000004001066
EXCEPT RALLIART Version-R
The New COLT featuring "exciting feeling and free-
dom" has been developed for realising "safety, run-
ning, quality" and "free-to-s elect enjoyment" as well
as "true convenience and economical efficiency."
That makes NEW COLT a new generation compact
car.
RALLIART Version-R
This "COLT RALLIART Version-R" has been devel-
oped as a hot version in which the Mitsubishi Motors'
concept "Sporty
−DNA" was further refined.
In the midst of this recent wave of the sport model
launches in the compact car class, COLT RALLIART
Version-R has acquired users of the competitors and
the younger generation, and has improved the over
-
all image of the COLT series by appealing to the
sport-oriented users as the only high-powered turbo
-
charger vehicle in the class.

PRODUCT FEATURES
M2000005000475
•COLT has been equipped with the new 1,500 mL
aluminium die-cast engine (4A9-engine) for fur
-
ther refinements of comfort driving, excellent
power performance, fuel economy, and ecology
performance.
•The body and suspension of COLT RALLIART
Version-R have been thoroughly tuned to
increase the 4G1-engine output which enables
dynamic driving.
•The robust image suited for the dynamic driving
has been adopted for the appearance.
SPORTY AND STYLISH DESIGN
•Bucket-like front seats
•Sport seats exclusive to the models with turbo-
charger
•15-inch aluminium wheel
•High-contrast combination meter
•Robust appearance by new shaped front bumper
adaptation and rear bumper change
•Black overfender
•16-inch aluminium wheel
ACTIVE DRIVING AND HIGH QUALITY
•For 4A9-engine, the aluminium die-cast cylinder
block has been installed for weight reduction of
the vehicle.
•For 4G1-engine, turbo-charger model has been
introduced to increase output and torque,
enhancing sporty image.
•Sporty driving has been ensured by the
"GETRAG" 5-speed manual transmission (floor
shift).
•The suspension has been tuned to improve cor-
nering and stability at high speed.
•A strut tower bar has been adopted to improve
the body rigidity.
•Electric power steering system has been
improved and EPS-ECU has been additionally
equipped with the return control logic, resulting in
superior steering wheel return control and better
steering feel equal to or better than that for other
models with hydraulic power steering.
