1. Go to operation check after asking the customer for symptom information. Refer to ACS-11, "ACTION
TEST" .
2. Stop vehicle, turn ignition switch OFF, then connect CONSULT-II and CONSULT-II CONVERTER to data link connector.
3. With engine started, touch “START (NISSAN BASED VHCL)”, “ICC”, “SELF-DIAG RESULTS” on CON- SULT-II screen in this order.
CAUTION:
If “ICC” cannot be shown after several attempts, the ICC unit may have had malfunction. Repair or
replace it. Refer to GI-39, "
CONSULT-II Data Link Connector (DLC) Circuit" .
4. Self-diagnostic result appears on screen. If “NO DTC ···” is shown, check ICC warning lamp. If any mal- function is indicated, GO TO step 5.
5. According to ACS-42, "
Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart" , perform appropriate check, and repair or
replace malfunctioning part as necessary.
6. Turn ignition switch OFF.
7. Start the engine and touch “START (NISSAN BASED VHCL)”, “ICC”, “SELF-DIAG RESULTS”, and “ERASE” on CONSULT-II display in turn to erase the memory.
CAUTION:
If the memory does not erase, go to 5.
8. Perform ICC system running test (drive vehicle with ICC system ON), and make sure that ICC warning lamp does not illuminate.
WITHOUT CONSULT-II
1. Go to operation check after asking the customer for symptom information. Refer to ACS-11, "ACTION
TEST" .
2. Stop the vehicle to start the self-diagnosis.
3. Turn ignition switch OFF.
4. From 5 seconds through 15 seconds after turning ignition switch ON, press RESUME/ACCELERATE switch 5 times, and SET/
COAST switch 5 times.
CAUTION:
Never start engine.
Never turn the MAIN switch ON.
When operation above is not completed from 5 seconds
through 15 seconds, start again from above go to 3.
If self-diagnosis mode cannot be started after several
attempts, the ICC unit may have had malfunction. Repair
or replace it. Refer to ACS-39, "

HOW TO ERASE DTC (WITH GST)
1. If the ignition switch stays ON after repair work, be sure to turn ignition switch OFF once. Wait at least 10 seconds and then turn it ON (engine stopped) again.
2. Perform “TCM SELF-DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE (No Tools)”. Refer to AT- 1 0 2 , "
TCM SELF-DIAGNOS-
TIC PROCEDURE (NO TOOLS)" . (The engine warm-up step can be skipped when performing the diag-
nosis only to erase the DTC.)
3. Select Mode 4 with Generic Scan Tool (GST). For details, refer to EC-130, "
Generic Scan Tool (GST)
Function" (for VQ35DE) or EC-792, "Generic Scan Tool (GST) Function" (for VK45DE).
HOW TO ERASE DTC (NO TOOLS)
The A/T CHECK indicator lamp is located on the instrument panel.
3. Perform “OBD-II SELF-DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE (No tools)”. Refer to EC-67, "
How to Erase DTC"
(for VQ35DE) or EC-727, "How to Erase DTC" (for VK45DE).
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)NCS001BB
DESCRIPTION
The MIL is located on the instrument panel.
1. The MIL will light up when the ignition switch is turned ON with- out the engine running. This is a bulb check.
If the MIL does not light up, refer to DI-38, "WARNING LAMPS" ,
or see EC-672, "
MIL AND DATA LINK CONNECTOR" (for
VQ35DE) or EC-1360, "
MIL AND DATA LINK CONNECTOR"
(for VK45DE).
2. When the engine is started, the MIL should go off. If the MIL remains on, the on board diagnostic system has
detected an engine system malfunction.

Self-DiagnosisNFS000OI
DESCRIPTION
If an error is detected in the system, ABS warning lamp, VDC OFF indicator lamp and SLIP indicator lamp
on the combination meter turn on. In this case, perform self-diagnosis as follows:
While CONSULT-II is used, ABS warning lamp, VDC OFF indicator lamp, SLIP indicator lamp may be
turned on in a case of no malfunctioning.
OPERATION PROCEDURE
1. Turn ignition switch OFF.
2. Perform “CONSULT-II Starting Procedure”. Refer to GI-38, "
CONSULT-II Start Procedure" .
3. Turn ignition switch ON.
4. Start engine and drive at approximately 30 km/h (19 MPH) or more for approximately 1 minute.
5. After stopping vehicle, with the engine running, touch “ABS”, “SELF-DIAG RESULTS” in order on the CONSULT-II screen.
CAUTION:
If “START (NISSAN BASED VHCL)” is touched immediately after starting engine or turning on the
ignition switch, “ABS” might not be displayed in the “SYSTEM SELECTION” screen. In this case,
repeat the operation from step 1. If it can not be shown after several attempts, ABS actuator and
electric unit (control unit) may have malfunctioned.
6. The self-diagnostic results are displayed. (If necessary, the self-diagnostic results can be printed out by touching “PRINT”.)
When “NO FAILURE” is displayed, check ABS warning lamp, VDC OFF indicator lamp and SLIP indica-
tor lamp.
7. Perform the appropriate inspection from the display item list, and repair or replace the malfunctioning component.
8. Drive the vehicle at approximately 30 km/h (19 MPH) or more for approximately 1 minute. CAUTION:
In a case that a wheel sensor is malfunctioning, ABS warning lamp, VDC OFF indicator lamp, SLIP
indicator lamp will turn on. If vehicle is not driven at approximately 30 km/h (19 MPH) or more for
at least approximately 1 minute after repair of the wheel sensor system, ABS warning lamp, VDC
OFF indicator lamp and SLIP indicator lamp may not turn off even if everything is normal. Check
again to make sure that there is no malfunction on other parts.
ERASE MEMORY
1. Turn ignition switch OFF.
2. Start the engine and touch “ABS”, “SELF-DIAG RESULTS”, “ERASE MEMORY” in order on the CON- SULT-II screen to erase the error memory.
CAUTION:
If the error memory is not erased, re-conduct the operation from step 4.
3. Perform self-diagnosis again, and make sure that diagnostic memory is erased.
4. Drive vehicle at 30 km/h (19 MPH) or more for approximately 1 minute as the final inspection, and make sure that the ABS warning lamp, VDC OFF indicator lamp and SLIP indicator lamp turn off.
NOTE:
VDC OFF switch should not stay “ON” position.

REMOVAL
WARNING:
Do not remove radiator cap when engine is hot. Serious burns could occur from high-pressure engine
coolant escaping from radiator. Wrap a thick cloth around the cap. Slowly turn it a quarter of a turn to
release built-up pressure. Carefully remove radiator cap by turning it all the way.
1. Remove front engine undercover with power tool.
2. Drain engine coolant from radiator. Refer to CO-11, "
Changing Engine Coolant" .
CAUTION:
Perform this step when the engine is cold.
Do not spill engine coolant on drive belts.
3. Remove air duct (inlet) and air cleaner case assembly. Refer to EM-17, "
