Remove the cover.
Press the two red tabs towardseacht other and separate theassembly from the light housing.
Remove the wiring connector.

Turn the bulb anticlockwise underslight pressure, and remove it.
Replace the bulb.
Install in the reverse order. Afterinstallation, check that the lightsoperate correctly.
Rear lamps (Estate)
Open the tailgate.
From inside the luggagecompartment, remove the top rearlight assembly cover. The bottomcover is fastened with clips. Removethe cover.
Unscrew the two wing nuts from thelight assembly. Make sure the wingnuts do not fall into the opening.
Gently pull out the light assembly.

ABS warning lamp
If the ABS warning lampilluminates when driving, itindicates a malfunction.Have this checked by an expert.Normal braking (without ABS) will bemaintained.
Airbag warning lamp
See Airbag warning lamp(page 31).
Brake system warning lamp
WARNING
If it illuminates after releasing theparking brake or when driving,have the braking system checked byan expert immediately.
Illuminates when the parkingbrake is applied.
Brake system and ABSwarning lamps
WARNING
Reduce vehicle speed gradually.Use the brake with great care.Do not step on the brake pedalabruptly.
If both warning lamps illuminate at thesame time, stop the vehicle as soonas it is safe to do so. Have thebraking system checked by anexpert before continuing yourjourney.
Direction indicator lamp
Flashes during operation. Asudden increase in the rateof flashing warns of a failedindicator bulb. If your vehicle hasbeen equipped with factory fittedtowing equipment, the control lampalso warns of failure of the indicatorbulbs on the trailer.
Doors open warning lamp
Illuminates if any door or theluggage compartment is notclosed properly.

The engine warning lampshould extinguish as soonas the engine starts. If itilluminates with the engine running, itindicates a malfunction. Have thischecked by an expert as soon aspossible. If it flashes, when driving,reduce the vehicle speedimmediately. If it continues to flash,avoid heavy acceleration ordeceleration. The engine will continueto operate but it will have limitedengine power. Have your vehiclechecked by an expert immediately.
Frost warning lamp
WARNING
Even if the temperature rises toabove 4ºC there is noguarantee that the road is free ofhazards caused by inclementweather.
For ambient temperaturesbetween 4°C and 1°C, theorange sign warns ofpossible ice on the roads. From 0°Cand below, the red sign warns of anincreased danger of icy roads.
Glow plug indicator lamp
If the glow plug indicatorlamp illuminates, wait untilthe it extinguishes beforestarting.
Headlamp indicator lamp
Illuminates when theheadlamps are on dippedbeam or when the side andtail lamps are on.
Ignition warning lamp
WARNING
If the charging system drive belton the diesel engines is loose,torn or broken, the servo assistancefor the braking system also no longeroperates.
If it illuminates whilst driving,switch off all unnecessaryelectrical equipment anddrive immediately to the nearestexpert.
Low fuel level warning lamp
When the warning lampilluminates, refuel as soon aspossible.
Low washer fluid warninglamp
When the warning lampilluminates, top up as soonas possible.
Main beam indicator lamp
Illuminates when theheadlamps are on mainbeam or when theheadlamp flasher is used.

If the lamp stays on afterstarting or illuminates duringa journey, stop immediately,switch off the engine and check theengine oil level. See Engine oil check(page 149). Top up straight away ifthe level is low.
Oil change indicator lamp
Vehicles with a dieselparticulate filter (DPF)
The oil change indicatorlamp will come on andremain on if the engine oilneeds to be changed outside of theregular service schedule. Have theengine oil changed as soon aspossible.
Your dealer will switch the oil changeindicator lamp off for you aftercompleting the oil change.
Seat belt reminder
See Seat belt reminder(page 29).
Stability control (ESP)indicator lamp
Note: If the it does not illuminatewhen the ignition is switched on or ifit stays illuminated whilst driving, itindicates a malfunction (unless thesystem has been switched offmanually when it will also illuminate).During a malfunction the system willbe switched off. Have the systemchecked by an expert.
Illuminates when stabilitycontrol is switched off andflashes when stability control(ESP) is activated.
AUDIBLE WARNINGS
AND INDICATORS
Frost
A warning tone will sound if theambient temperature falls below 4°C.
Lights on
A warning tone will sound if thedriver's door is opened when thelights are on.
Parking aid
A short tone will sound whenselecting reverse gear if the systemis operational. A continuous tone ora deep tone at three second intervalswill sound when selecting reversegear is the system has a malfunction.

Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine The electric sunroof is equipped withanti-trap protection. The sunroof willstop automatically while closing andreverse some distance if there is anobstacle in the way.
To override anti-trap protection whenthere is a resistance, e. g. in thewinter, proceed as follows:
Close the sunroof twice until itreaches the resistance and let itreverse. Close the sunroof a thirdtime to the resistance. Briefly releasethe switch and press againimmediately. The sunroof will overridethe resistance and can then beclosed fully.
Sunroof safety mode
If the system detects a malfunction,it enters a safety mode. The sunroofwill move for only about 0.5 secondsat a time and then stop again. Closethe sunroof by pressing the buttonagain when the sunroof stopsmoving. When the rear of the sunroofis lifted, lift the rear all the way andthen close the sunroof. Have thesystem checked by an expertimmediately.
Sunroof relearning
In case the sunroof no longer closesproperly, follow this relearningprocedure:
•Tilt the rear of the sunroof as faras possible. Release the button.
•Press and hold the same buttonagain for 30 seconds until you seethe sunroof move.
•Release the button andimmediately press and hold itagain. The sunroof will close, openfully and then close again. Do notrelease the button before thesunroof has reached the closedposition for the second time.
If the button is not pressedcontinuously, the relearning functionwill be interrupted. Start theprocedure once more from thebeginning.

Returning the seatback toits upright position
The seatback must engage in thelatches on both sides. The seat beltsmust be forward of the seatback.
Folding rear seat cushionsand seatback forwards
5-door and Estate
Pull the loop between the seatcushion and the seatback and foldthe seat cushion forward. Removethe head restraints of the rear seatsand fold the seatback forward.
Note: When the red marking in theunlocking button is visible, theseatback is not fully engaged.Release the seatback and repeat theprocedure until the red marking is nolonger visible. If the seatbeltintegrated into the seatback doesnot function properly, check theunlocking mechanism.
When returning the seats to theiroriginal positions, make sure the seatbelts will function properly and arepositioned in front of the seatback.On vehicles with heated rear seats,make sure the heating system wiringdoes not get stuck or damaged.

If the indicator flashes a problem hasbeen detected in the automatictransmission. Have your vehiclechecked by an expert as soon aspossible.
Driving with an automatictransmission
Moving off
With the engine idling and the brakepedal depressed, move the selectorlever to one of the driving positions.Release the brakes. The vehicle willstart to move slowly in the selecteddirection. Depress the acceleratorpedal to increase speed.
Moving off in sand, mud andsnow
If the driving wheels are stuck, try torock the vehicle free by drivingforwards and backwards. To do this,move the selector lever alternatelyto D and R and depress theaccelerator as little as possible. Toincrease the effect, move theselector lever to R while the vehicleis still moving forward and vice versa.
To avoid excessive wear on thetransmission when shifting betweenforward and reverse (rocking) keepthe engine speed as low as possible.
In winter, position 2 (4-speedtransmission) or second gear(5-speed transmission) may be usedfor initial drive-off on icy orsnow-covered surfaces.
