High Range (4WD Models) or 2WD Models
ON
This is the normal operating mode for ESP in 4WD high
range and in 2WD vehicles. Whenever the vehicle is
started or the transfer case (if equipped) is shifted from
4WD low range or neutral back to 4WD high range, the
ESP system will be in this mode. This mode should be
used for most all driving situations. ESP should only be
turned to “Partial Off” for specific reasons as noted
below.
This mode is entered by momentarily
depressing the “ESP OFF” Control
Switch. When in “Partial Off” mode,
the engine management portion of
ESP has been desensitized, the thresh-
olds for ESP activation are raised, and
the “ESP/TCS Indicator Light” will be
illuminated. This mode is intended tobe used if the vehicle is in deep snow, sand or gravel
conditions and more wheel spin than ESP would nor-
mally allow is required to gain traction. To turn ESP on
again, momentarily depress the “ESP-Control OFF” Con-
trol Switch. This will restore the normal “ON” mode of
operation. ESP always operates under braking, even with
the switch in the OFF-position.
WARNING!
In the Partial Off mode, the engine torque reduction
and stability features are desensitized. Therefore,
the enhanced vehicle stability offered by ESP is
unavailable.
NOTE:To improve the vehicle’s traction when driving
with snow chains, or starting off in deep snow, sand or
gravel, it may be desirable to switch to the “Partial Off”
mode by pressing the ESP Control Switch. Once the

situation requiring ESP to be switched to the “Partial Off”
mode is overcome, turn ESP on by momentarily depress-
ing the “ESP Control Switch”. This may be done with the
vehicle is in motion.
4WD Low Range
Partial Off
This is the normal operating mode for ESP in 4WD low
range. Whenever the vehicle is started in 4WD low range
or the transfer case (if equipped) is shifted from 4WD
high range or neutral to 4WD low range, the ESP system
will be in this mode. In 4WD low range, ESP function is
desensitized until the vehicle reaches a speed of 30 mph
(48 km/h). At 30 mph (48 km/h) the normal ESP stability
function returns and the ESP/TCS Indicator Light” turns
off. When the vehicle speed drops below 25 mph (40
km/h) the ESP system goes back to Partial Off. ESP is
desensitized at low vehicle speeds in 4WD low range so
that it will not interfere with off road driving but ESPfunction returns to provide the stability feature at speeds
above 30 mph (48 km/h). The ABS is in a special
Off-Road mode that allows too look wheels at lower
speed if gravel is detected to gain stopping distance.
NOTE:When the vehicle is in 4WD low range, a feature
of the ESP system remains active whether the ESP is on or
off. This feature functions similar to a limited slip differ-
ential and controls the wheel spin across an axle. If one
wheel on an axle is spinning faster than the other, the
system will apply the brake of the spinning wheel and
allow more engine torque to be applied to the wheel that
is not spinning.

WARNING!
In the Partial Off mode, the engine torque reduction

ESP/BAS Warning Lamp and ESP/TCS Indicator
Light
The malfunction indicator for the ESP is combined with
the BAS indicator. The yellow “ESP/BAS Warning
Lamp” and the yellow “ESP/TCS Indicator Light” in the
instrument cluster both come on when the ignition
switch is turned to the “ON” position. They should both
go out with the engine running. If the “ESP/BAS Warn-
ing Lamp” comes on continuously with the engine
running, a malfunction has been detected in either the
ESP or BAS system, or both. If this light remains on after
several ignition cycles, and the vehicle has been drivenseveral miles at speeds greater than 30 mph (48 km/h),
see your authorized dealer as soon as possible to have the
problem diagnosed and corrected.
NOTE:
•The “ESP Indicator Light” and the “ESP/BAS Warning
Lamp” come on momentarily each time the ignition
switch is turned ON.
•Each time the ignition is turned ON, the ESP System
will be ON even if it was turned off previously.
•The ESP Control System will make buzzing or clicking
sounds when it is active. This is normal; the sounds
will stop when ESP becomes inactive following the
maneuver that caused the ESP activation.

OVERHEAD CONSOLE
The overhead console has the following features:
•Courtesy Lights
•Garage Door Opener — If Equipped
•Compass/Temperature Mini-Trip Computer — If
Equipped
Courtesy/Reading Lights
Near the front of the console are two courtesy/reading
lights.
Both lights illuminate as courtesy lights when a door is
opened, when the dimmer control is rotated to the
courtesy light position (fully upward position), or when
the UNLOCK button is pressed on the Remote Keyless
Entry transmitter, if so equipped. These lights are also
operated individually as reading lights by pressing the
recessed area of the corresponding lens.
NOTE:The courtesy/reading lights will remain on until
the switch is pressed a second time, so be sure they have
been turned off before leaving the vehicle. If the interior
lights are left on after the vehicle is turned OFF, they will
extinguish after 15 minutes.

GARAGE DOOR OPENER — IF EQUIPPED

Programming HomeLink
NOTE:When programming a garage door opener, it is
advised to park outside the garage. It is also recom-
mended that a new battery be placed in the hand-held
transmitter of the device being programmed to
HomeLink for quicker training and accurate transmis-
sion of the radio-frequency signal.
1. Press and hold the two outer HomeLink buttons, and
release only when the indicator lights (two dots below
House Symbol ) begin to flash (after 20 seconds).Do not
hold the buttons for longer than 30 seconds anddo not
repeat step one to program a second and/or third hand-
held transmitter to the remaining two HomeLink but-
tons.

2. Position the end of your hand-held transmitter 1-3
inches (3-8 cm) away from the HomeLink buttons while
keeping the indicator light (dots below House Symbol) in
view.3. Simultaneously press and hold both the HomeLink
button that you want to train and the hand-held trans-
mitter buttons.Do not release the buttons until step 4
has been completed.
NOTE:Some gate operators and garage door openers
may require you to replace this Programming Step 3 with
procedures noted in theGate Operator/Canadian Pro-
grammingsection.
4. The HomeLink indicator light (dots below House
Symbol) will flash slowly and then rapidly after
HomeLink successfully receives the frequency signal
from the hand-held transmitter. Release both buttons
after the indicator light changes from the slow to the
rapid flash.
5. Press and hold the just trained HomeLink button and
observe the indicator light. If the indicator lightstays on

constantly, programming is completeand your device
should activate when the HomeLink button is pressed
and released.
NOTE:To program the remaining two HomeLink but-
tons, begin withProgrammingstep two. Do not repeat

If the indicator light blinksrapidly for two seconds and
then turns to a constant light, continue withProgram-
mingsteps 6-8to complete the programming of a rolling
code equipped device (most commonly a garage door
opener).
6. At the garage door opener receiver (motor-head unit)
in the garage, locate thelearnorsmartbutton. This
can usually be found where the hanging antenna wire is
attached to the motor-head unit.7. Firmly press and release thelearnorsmartbutton.
(The name and color of the button may vary by manu-
facturer.)
NOTE:There are 30 seconds in which to initiate step
eight.
8. Return to the vehicle and firmlypress, hold for two
seconds and releasethe programmed HomeLink button.
Repeat thepress/hold/releasesequence a second time,
and, depending on the brand of the garage door opener
(or other rolling code equipped device), repeat this
sequence a third time to complete the programming.
HomeLink should now activate your rolling code
equipped device.
