The yellow engine mal-
function indicator lamp
comes on while driving.
There is a malfunction of:
The fuel management system
The ignition system
The emission control system
Systems which impact emissions
Such malfunctions may result in excessive
emissions values and may switch the engine
to its limp-home mode. Serious damage can
occur to the emission system.
Have the vehicle checked as soon as possi-
ble by an authorized Mercedes-Benz Light
Truck Center.
An on-board diagnostic connector is used
by the service station to link the vehicle to
the shop diagnostics system. It allows the
accurate identification of system malfunc-
tions through the readout of diagnostic trou-
ble codes. It is located near the hood lock
release on the upper left of footwell.
A loss of pressure has been detected in the
fuel system. The fuel cap may not be closed
properly or the fuel system may be leaky.
Check the fuel cap (
page 235).
If it is not closed properly:
Close the fuel cap.
If it is closed properly:
Have the fuel system checked by an autho-
rized Mercedes-Benz Light Truck Center.
Your fuel tank is empty.
After refueling start, turn off and restart the
engine three or four times in succession.
The limp-home mode is canceled. You do
not need to have your vehicle checked.

ed power supply. The ABS may still be opera-
tional. The ESP has to be synchronized.

CD changer
The CD changer is located on the left side

The jack is designed exclusively for jacking
up the vehicle under the axle housing. To
help avoid personal injury, use the jack only
to lift the vehicle during a wheel change.
Never get beneath the vehicle while it is sup-
ported by the jack. Keep hands and feet
away from the area under the lifted vehicle.
Always firmly set parking brake and block
wheels before raising vehicle with jack.
Do not disengage parking brake while the
vehicle is raised. Be certain that the jack is
always vertical (plumb line) when in use, es-
pecially on hills. Always try to use the jack
on level surface. Make sure the jack is posi-
tioned correctly under the axle housing. Al-
ways lower the vehicle onto sufficient
capacity jackstands before working under
the vehicle.

on the outside of the vehicle’s tailgate.

Unlocking the vehicle
If you are unable to unlock the vehicle with
the SmartKey, open the driver’s door and
the tailgate using the mechanical key.
The passenger door cannot be unlocked
manually.

Unlock the door with the mechanical
key. To do so, push the mechanical key
in the lock until it stops and turn it to

If you are unable to unlock the tailgate with
the SmartKey, open the tailgate with the
mechanical key as follows:

Remove the mechanical key.

chanical key will trigger the anti-theft

Press button Œ or ‹ on the
SmartKey.
Insert the SmartKey in the starter
switch.

Open the tailgate to the side.
Locking the vehicle
If you are unable to lock the vehicle with
the SmartKey, lock it with the mechanical
key as follows:
Close the passenger doors and the tail-
gate.
Press the central locking switch in the
cockpit (
page 99).
Check to see whether the locking
knobs on the passenger doors are still
visible. If necessary, push them down
manually.
Slide the mechanical key2 out of the
SmartKey.
Lock the driver’s door with the me-
chanical key.
Check if the tailgate is locked. If neces-
sary lock the tailgate with the mechan-
ical key.
Fuel filler flap
The emergency release is in the cargo
compartment behind the rear panel trim.
