14. REMOVE FUEL EMISSION TUBE FUEL HOSE
(a) Remove the fuel emission tube fuel hose.
15. INSTALL FUEL EMISSION TUBE FUEL HOSE
16. INSTALL CHARCOAL CANISTER ASSY
(a) Install the charcoal canister with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 40 NVm (400 kgfVcm, 29 ftVlbf)
(b) Connect the fuel tank vent hose.
(1) Push in the quick connector to the pipe until the
quick connector makes a ºclickº sound.
NOTICE:
Check the connected part for damage or foreign ob-
jects.
After connecting, check if the quick connector and
pipe are securely connected by pulling on them.
(c) Connect the fuel hose No. 1.
(d) Install the 3 wire harness clamps.
(e) Connect the VSV connector.

VAPOR PRESSURE SENSOR ASSY (3MZ-FE)
REPLACEMENT
1. DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE (See page 11-1)
2. DISCONNECT ENGINE WIRE NO. 3 (BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL)
3. REMOVE REAR SEAT CUSHION ASSY (See page 72-39)
4. REMOVE REAR FLOOR SERVICE HOLE COVER (See page 11-20)
5. DISCONNECT FUEL PUMP TUBE SUB-ASSY
(a) Remove the tube joint clip, then pull out the fuel pump
tube.
NOTICE:
Check around the quick connector for dirt or mud be-
fore this operation. Remove the dirt if necessary.
Be careful of mud because the quick connector has
an O-ring which seals the pipe and quick connector
that can be contaminated.
Do not use any tools in this operation.
Do not bend or twist the nylon tube. Protect the quick
connector by covering it with a vinyl or plastic bag.
When the pipe and quick connector are stuck, push
and pull the quick connector to release. Pull the quick
connector carefully.
6. REMOVE FUEL TANK VENT TUBE SET PLATE
(a) Remove the 8 bolts, then remove the fuel tank vent tube
set plate.
7. REMOVE VAPOR PRESSURE SENSOR ASSY
(a) Remove the cover.
(b) Remove the tube joint clip, then pull out the vapor pres-
sure sensor.

8. INSTALL VAPOR PRESSURE SENSOR ASSY
(a) Install the vapor pressure sensor with the tube joint clip.
NOTICE:
Check the connected part for scratch or foreign ob-
jects.
Check that the vapor pressure sensor is inserted se-
curely.
Check that the tube joint clip is on the collar of the va-
por pressure sensor.
After installing the tube joint clip, check that the vapor
pressure sensor has not been pulled off.
(b) Install the cover.
9. INSTALL FUEL TANK VENT TUBE SET PLATE
(a) Align the mark of the fuel tank vent tube set plate with the
fuel suction tube w/ pump & gauge.
(b) Install the fuel tank vent tube set plate with the 8 bolts.
Torque: 5.9 NVm (60 kgfVcm, 52 in.Vlbf)
10. CONNECT FUEL PUMP TUBE SUB-ASSY
(a) Install the fuel pump tube with the tube joint clip.
NOTICE:
Check the connected part for scratch or foreign ob-
jects.
Check that the fuel tube joint is inserted securely.
Check that the tube joint clip is on the collar of the fuel
tube joint.
After installing the tube joint clip, check that the fuel
tube joint has not been pulled off.
11. CONNECT ENGINE WIRE NO. 3 (BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL)
Torque: 5.4 NVm (55 kgfVcm, 48 in.Vlbf)

POWER STEERING SYSTEM
PRECAUTION
1. HANDLING PRECAUTIONS ON STEERING SYSTEM
(a) Care must be taken to when replacing parts. Incorrect re-
placement could affect the performance of the steering
system and result in a driving hazard.
(b) 1MZ-FE engine has 2 types of vane pump assy.
HINT:
TYPE A VANE PUMP
Vane pump pulley can be removed from the vane pump shaft
(See page 51-7).
TYPE B VANE PUMP
Vane pump pulley cannot be removed from the vane pump
shaft (See page 51-7).
2. HANDLING PRECAUTIONS ON SRS AIRBAG SYSTEM
(a) The LEXUS ES330 is equipped with SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) such as the driver airbag
and front passenger airbag. Failure to carry out service operation in correct sequence could cause the
SRS to unexpectedly deploy during servicing, possibly leading to a serious accident. Before servicing
(including removal or installation of parts, inspection or replacement), be sure to read the precaution-
ary notice for the supplemental restraint system (See page 60-1).

37. INSTALL VANE PUMP HOUSING REAR
(a) Coat a new O-ring with power steering fluid and install it to the vane pump housing rear.
(b) Install the vane pump housing rear with the 4 bolts.
Torque: 24 NVm (245 kgfVcm, 18 ftVlbf)
38. MEASURE VANE PUMP ROTATION TORQUE(TYPE A
VANE PUMP)
(a) Check that the vane pump rotates smoothly without ab-
normal noise.
(b) Temporarily install the pulley set nut.
(c) Using a torque wrench, check the vane pump rotating
torque.
Rotating torque:
0.27 NVm (2.8 kgfVcm, 2.4 in.Vlbf) or less
39. MEASURE VANE PUMP ROTATION TORQUE(TYPE B
VANE PUMP)
(a) Check that the vane pump rotates smoothly without ab-
normal noise.
(b) Temporarily install the service bolt.
Recommended service bolt:
Thread diameter: 10 mm (0.39 in.)
Thread pitch: 1.25 mm (0.0492 in.)
Bolt length: 50 mm (1.97 in.)
(c) Using a torque wrench, check the vane pump rotating
torque.
Rotating torque:
0.27 NVm (2.8 kgfVcm, 2.4 in.Vlbf) or less
40. INSTALL VANE PUMP BRACKET REAR(TYPE A VANE PUMP)
(a) Install the vane pump bracket rear with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 43 NVm (438 kgfVcm, 32 ftVlbf)
41. INSTALL VANE PUMP BRACKET REAR(TYPE B VANE PUMP)
(a) Install the vane pump bracket rear with the 2 bolts and 2 nuts.
Torque: 44 NVm (449 kgfVcm, 32 ftVlbf)
42. INSTALL FLOW CONTROL VALVE COMPRESSION SPRING
(a) Coat the flow control valve compression spring with power steering fluid and install it.
(b) Install the flow control valve compression spring.
43. INSTALL FLOW CONTROL VALVE
(a) Coat the flow control valve with power steering fluid.
(b) Install the flow control valve.
44. INSTALL PRESSURE PORT UNION
(a) Coat a new O-ring with power steering fluid and install it to the pressure port union.
(b) Install the pressure port union.
Torque: 83 NVm (846 kgfVcm, 61 ftVlbf)

32. REMOVE POWER STEERING CONTROL VALVE
UPPER OIL SEAL
(a) Using SST and a press, remove the control valve upper
bearing and power steering control valve upper oil seal
from the control valve housing.
SST 09950- 70010 (09951- 07150), 09950- 60010
(09951-00250)
33. REMOVE CYLINDER END STOPPER
(a) Using a screwdriver and a hammer, turn the cylinder end
stopper clockwise until the wire end is visible through the
service hole.
(b) Using a screwdriver and a hammer, turn the cylinder end
stopper counterclockwise, and remove the wire and cylin-
der end stopper.
34. REMOVE POWER STEERING RACK
(a) Remove the power steering rack and power steering rack bush.
35. REMOVE POWER STEERING RACK BUSH
(a) Remove the power steering rack bush from the power
steering rack.
(b) Using SST, remove the rack bush oil seal.
SST 09527-2101 1, 09612-24014 (09613-22011)
(c) Using a screwdriver, remove the O-ring from the power
steering rack bush.

INSPECTION
1. INSPECT STARTER ASSY
NOTICE:
These tests must be performed within 3 to 5 seconds to
prevent burnout of the coil.
(a) Perform the pull-in test.
(1) Remove the nut, then disconnect the lead wire from
terminal C.
(2) Connect the battery to the repair service starter kit
as shown in the illustration. Check that the clutch
pinion gear is extended.
If the clutch pinion gear does not move, replace the starter mag-
netic switch.
(b) Perform the hold-in test.
(1) Disconnect the negative (-) lead from terminal C
with the lead wire disconnected from terminal C.
Check that the clutch pinion gear remains ex-
tended.
If the clutch pinion gear returns inward, replace the starter mag-
netic switch.
(c) Check the operation.
(1) Disconnect the negative (-) lead from the switch
body. Check that the clutch pinion gear returns.
If the clutch pinion gear does not return inward, replace the
starter magnetic switch.
