KEY POSITIONS

C070C01A-AAT To remove the ignition key
1. Turn the ignition key to the "ACC"
position.
2. Simultaneously push and turn the
ignition key counterclockwise from the "ACC" position to the "LOCK" position.
3. The key can be removed in the "LOCK" position.LOCK

o "ON" When the key is in the "ON position, the ignition is on and all accessories may be turned on. If the engine is notrunning, the key should not be left in the "ON" position. This will discharge the battery and may also damage theignition system.
o "ACC" With the key in the "ACC" position, the some electrical accessories (radio, etc.) may be operated.
o "LOCK" The key can be removed or inserted in this position. To protect against theft, the steering wheel locks by removing the key. NOTE: To unlocking the steering wheel, insert the key, and then turn thesteering wheel and key simulta- neously.

The engine should not be turned off or the key removed from the ignition key cylinder while the ve- hicle is in motion. The steeringwheel is locked by removing the key.
o "START" The engine is started in this position. It will crank until you release the key. NOTE: Do not hold the key in the "START" position for more than 15 seconds. START

BRAKE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM (BTCS)
o Driving on rough, gravel or snow-
covered roads.
o Driving with tire chains installed.
o Driving on roads where the road
surface is pitted or has different surface height.
During these conditions, the ve-hicle should be driven at reduced speeds. The safety features of anABS equipped vehicle should not be tested by high speed driving or cornering. This could endanger the safety of yourself or others. C300A01O-GAT (If Installed) On slippery road surfaces, the traction control system (TCS) limits the drivewheels from spinning excessively, thus helping the car to accelerate. It also provides sufficient driving force andsteering performance as the car turns at accelerated speeds. SLIP Control Limits the drive wheels from spinning excessively during starting or whilemaking accelerated turns on slippery roads to avoid losing the driving force of the front wheels. Driving hints TCS does not actively apply brakes. Be sure to decelerate the car suffi-ciently before entering curves. CAUTION:
When the TCS indicator blinks, SLIPcontrol has been activated. It also means that the road is slippery or your car is accelerating excessively.In this situation, gently release foot pressure from the accelerator pedal and maintain moderate speed.

Traction control is only a driving aid; all normal precautions for driv- ing in inclement weather and onslippery driving surfaces should be observed.!

When driv- ing in severe winter conditions where this may happen, you should periodi-cally check underneath the car to be sure the movement of the front wheels and the steering components is notobstructed. C160K01A-AAT Carry Emergency Equipment Depending on the severity of the weather where you drive your car, you should carry appropriate emergency equipment. Some of the items youmay want to carry include tire chains, tow straps or chains, flashlight, emer- gency flares, sand, a shovel, jumpercables, a window scraper, gloves, ground cloth, coveralls, a blanket, etc. C170A01A-AAT HIGHER SPEED MOTORING Pre-Trip Inspections 1. Tires: Adjust the tire inflation pressures to specification. Low tire inflation pres- sures will result in overheating andpossible failure of the tires. Avoid using worn or damaged tires which may result in reduced traction ortire failure. NOTE: Never exceed the maximum tire infla- tion pressure shown on the tires. 2. Fuel, engine coolant and en- gine oil: High speed travel consumes more fuel than urban motoring. Do not forget tocheck both engine coolant and engine oil. 3. Drive belt: A loose or damaged drive belt may result in overheating of the engine.

D060J01FC-GAT After Changing Wheels If you have a tire gauge, remove the valve cap and check the air pressure. If the pressure is lower than recom-mended, drive slowly to the nearest service station and inflate to the cor- rect pressure. If it is too high, adjust ituntil it is correct. IF YOUR VEHICLE MUST BE TOWED
D080A01O-GAT If your vehicle has to be towed, it should be done by your Hyundai dealeror a commercial tow truck service. This will help assure that your vehicle is not damaged in towing. Also, profes-sionals are generally aware of local laws governing towing. In any case, rather than risk damage to your car, itis suggested that you show this infor- mation to the tow truck operator. Be sure that a safety chain system is usedand that all local laws are observed. It is recommended that your vehicle be towed with a wheel lift and dollies orflatbed equipment with all the wheels off the ground.
! CAUTION:
o Your vehicle can be damaged if towed incorrectly!
o Be sure the transaxle is in neu-
tral.
o When the engine will not start, be
sure the steering is unlocked by placing the key in the "ACC" po- sition.

CAUTION:
If the car is being towed with all four wheels on the ground, it can be towed only from the front. Be sure that the transaxle is in neutral. Donot tow at speeds greater than 50 km/h (30 mph) and for more than 25 km (15 miles).Be sure the steering is unlocked by placing the key in the "ACC" posi- tion. A driver must be in the towedvehicle to operate the steering and brakes.!
EMERGENCY TOWING

For emergency towing when no com- mercial tow vehicle is available, attach a tow cable, chain or strap to one of thetowing hooks under the front of your car. Do not attempt to tow your vehicle in this manner on any unpaved sur-face. This could result in serious dam- age to your car. Nor should towing be attempted if thewheels, drive train, axles, steering or brakes are damaged. Before towing, be sure the transaxle is in neutral andthe key is in "ACC" (with the engine off) or in the "ON" position (with the engine running). CAUTION:
