INSTRUMENTS AND CONTROLS
30
Coolant temperature indicator When the needle is in zone A, the
temperature is correct. When the needle is in zone B, the
temperature is too high.In cases where the coolant tempe- rature warning light comes on (lin-
ked to the STOP warning light), you
must stop immediately.
Warning: wait for the engine to cool
down.
If necessary, top up the level.Because the cooling system is pres- surised, to prevent the risk of scal-ding, turn the cap two turns to allowthe pressure to drop. When the pressure has dropped, remove the cap and top up the level.
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.
Engine oil level and temperature When the ignition is switched on, this gauge indicates the engine oil levelfor approximately 20 seconds, then itindicates the engine oil temperature. Engine oil level The reading is valid only if the vehicle is on level ground, and the
engine has been switched off for 10minutes. With the ignition on, wait for the gra- duated sector to light up and the indi-cator needle to move. When the needle is in zone C, the oil
level is correct. When the needle is in zone D, the oil
level is incorrect. There is a risk of damage to the engine.
Check the level with the dipstick.
You must top up the level withoutexceeding the maximum level onthe gauge.
Engine oil temperature When the needle is in zone E, the
temperature is correct. When the needle is in zone F, the
temperature is too high.Reduce your speed to lower the temperature.
Service indicator and total distance recorder When the ignition is switched on, this indicates servicing information for afew seconds, then the total and tripdistances. Service functionSee the 'Service indicator' section.
Total distance recorder function The total distance is displayed on the left side of the screen and the tripdistance on the right side.

CHECKING THE LEVELS Oil level Check the level regularly and top up between changes. Maximumconsumption is 0.5 l per 600 miles(1000 km). Carry out this check with the vehicle level, engine cold, usingthe oil level gauge on the instru-ment panel or the dipstick.
Dipstick There are two markson the dipstick : A= maximum
Never fill past this mark. B = minimum
To maintain the reliabi- lity of engines andemission control sys-tems, the use of addi-tives in engine oil isprohibited.
Oil change According to the information given
in the 'PEUGEOT SERVICINGGUIDE'.
PRACTICAL INFORMATION 141
Viscosity selection In all cases, the oil selected must meet the manufacturer'srequirements. Brake and clutch fluid level:
- The level must always be between
the DANGER and MAXIMUM marks
in the reservoir.
- If the level drops substantially, contact a PEUGEOT dealer imme-
diately.
Fluid change:
- must be carried out according to the manufacturer's servicing sche- dule,
- use fluids recommended by the manufacturer, which fulfil DOT4standards.
WARNING: brake and clutch fluid is
harmful to health and very corrosive. Used oil Prevent used oil from coming into pro- longed contact with the skin. Do not dispose of used oil, brake and clutch fluid or coolant into drains oronto the ground. Power steering reservoir
Open the reservoir, with the engi-ne cold at ambient temperature. The level should always be abovethe MINI mark and close to theMAXI mark.
Windscreen and headlamp wash level For best quality cleaning and for your
safety, we advise that you use pro-ducts recommended by PEUGEOT(reservoir capacity 4 litres or 6.5 litres with headlamp wash).
