2004 DRIVELINE/AXLES
Front Axle - Endeavor
GENERAL DESCRIPTION The front axle consists of front hubs, knuckles, wheel bearings and drive shafts, and
has the following features:
The wheel bearing incorporates a unit ball bearing (double-row angular contact
ball bearing) for reduced friction. The front wheel hub assembly combines the hub, wheel bearing, housing, and
oil seal in a single unit for fewer parts, better durability, improved assembly
precision, and better structural organization. The driveshaft incorporates BJ-PTJ type constant velocity joints< FWD>, BJ-
DOJ < AWD-LH>and BJ-TJ< AWD-RH> with high transmission efficiency
for low vibration and noise. Due to the use of the inner shaft and bracket assembly, the right and left drive
shafts are approximately the same in length. This reduces noise, vibration and
torque steer.< FWD> ABS rotor for detecting the wheel speeds is press-fitted to the rear hub in
vehicles with ABS.

2004 ENGINE
Engine Lubrication - Endeavor
GENERAL DESCRIPTION The lubrication method is a fully force-fed, full-flow filtration type
LUBRICATION SPECIFICATION ENGINE OILS RECOMMENDED PRECAUTIONS The most effective precaution is to adapt working practices which prevent, as far as
practical, the risk of skin contact with mineral oils i.e. use enclosed systems for
handling used engine oil and decrease components, where practical, before handling
them. OTHER PRECAUTIONS
Avoid prolonged and repeated contact with oil, particularly used engine oil. Wear protective clothing, including impervious gloves where practical. Avoid contaminating clothes, particularly under wear, with oil. Do not put oily rags in pockets. Do not wear heavily soiled clothing and oi
l-soaked foo
t-wear. Overalls must be

WARNING:Prolonged and repeated contact with mineral oil will
result in the removal of natural fats from the skin,
leading to dryness, irritation and dermatitis. In
addition, used engine oil contains potentially
harmful contaminants which may cause skin cancer.
Adequate means of skin protection and washing
facilities must be provided.

2004 HVAC
Heater Air Conditioning, Ventilation - Endeavor
GENERAL DESCRIPTION The heater and cooling units are combined in a single unit, which, with the mode
film damper and flow rate control valve in the heater unit, reduces ventilation
resistance, increases fan power, and decreases noise.
GENERAL SPECIFICATION SAFETY PRECAUTIONS Because R-134a refrigerant is a hydro fluorocarbon (HFC) which contains
hydrogen atoms in place of chlorine atoms, it will not cause damage to the ozone
layer.
Ozone filters out harmful radiation from the sun. To assist in protecting the ozone
layer, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation recommends an R-134a refrigerant recycling
device.
Refrigerant R-134a is transparent and colorless in both the liquid and vapor state.
Since it has a boiling point of -29.8°C (-21.64°F) at atmospheric pressure, it will be
a vapor at all normal temperatures and pressures. The vapor is heavier than air, non-
flammable, and non-explosive. The following precautions must be observed when

Check by the following procedure, and replace the coil if there is a malfunction. PRIMARY COIL AND IGNITION POWER TRANSISTOR CONTINUITY CHECK Fig. 3: Checking Primary Coil And Ignition Power Transistor
Courtesy of MITSUBISHI MOTOR SALES OF AMERICA.
NOTE: An analog-type ohmmeter should be used.
NOTE: Connect the negative probe of the ohmmeter to terminal 1.
CAUTION: This test must be performed quickly (in less than 10
seconds) to prevent coil from burning and ignition
power transistor from breaking.
