2. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
3. Check if a DTC, which relates to CAN communication-linked systems
below, is set.
ETACS-ECU
DTC 011: Power train control module time-out (related to
engine)
Combination meter DTC 011: Power train control module time-out (related to
engine)
Multi-center display DTC 011: Power train control module time-out (related to
engine)
A/C-ECU DTC U1100: Power train control module time-out (related to
engine)
4. Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
5. Disconnect scan tool MB991958.
Q: Is DTC 011 or U1100 set?
YES: Go to Step 4.
NO: Go to Step 5 .
STEP 4. Recheck for diagnostic trouble code.
Check again if the DTC is set.
CAUTION: To prevent damage to scan tool MB991958,
always turn the ignition switch to the
"LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or
disconnecting scan tool .MB991958.

1. Connect scan tool MB991958 to the data link connector. (Refer to

3. Erase the DTC. (Refer to TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM (TCL)
DIAGNOSIS
).
4. Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
5. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
6. Check if the DTC is set.
7. Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
8. Disconnect scan tool MB991958.
Q: Is DTC U1100 set?
YES: Replace the PCM. Refer toPOWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE
(PCM)
, . Then go to Step 6 .
NO: It can be assumed that this malfunction is intermittent. (Refer to HOW
TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTIONS
).
STEP 5. Recheck for diagnostic trouble code.
Check again if the DTC is set.
1. Connect scan tool MB991958 to the data link connector. (Refer to
TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM (TCL) DIAGNOSIS
). CAUTION: To prevent damage to scan tool MB991958,
always turn the ignition switch to the
"LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or
disconnecting scan tool MB991958.

4. Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
5. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
6. Check if the DTC is set.
7. Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
8. Disconnect scan tool MB991958.
Q: Is DTC U1100 set?
YES: Replace the hydraulic unit (integrated with ABS/TCL-ECU < FWD > or
TCL/ASC-ECU < AWD >). (Refer to HYDRAULIC UNIT
). Then to Step 6.
NO: It can be assumed that this malfunction is intermittent. (Refer to HOW
TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTIONS
).
STEP 6. Recheck for diagnostic trouble code.
Check again if the DTC is set.
1. Connect scan tool MB991958 to the data link connector. (Refer to
TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM (TCL) DIAGNOSIS
). CAUTION: To prevent damage to scan tool MB991958,
always turn the ignition switch to the
"LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or
disconnecting scan tool MB991958.

8. Disconnect scan tool MB991958.
Q: Is DTC U1100 set?
YES: Return to Step 1 .
NO: The procedure is complete.
DTC U1101: CAN Communications System Time Out Error A/T Related Data DTC SET CONDITION The ABS/TCL-ECU < FWD > or TCL/ASC-ECU < AWD > receives A/T system-
related signals from the powertrain control module (PCM) via CAN bus lines. TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS (THE MOST LIKELY CAUSES FOR THESE DTCS ARE TO SET ARE:)
Damaged harness or connector. Malfunction of the PCM. CAUTION:
If DTC U1101 is set in the ABS/TCL-ECU < FWD >
or TCL/ASC-ECU < AWD >, always diagnose the
CAN main bus line. If there is any fault in the
CAN bus lines, an incorrect DTC may be set. Whenever the ABS/TCL-ECU < FWD > or
TCL/ASC-ECU < AWD > is replaced, ensure that
the communication circuit is normal.
