Battery Run-Down Protection
Your vehicle has a feature to help prevent you from
draining the battery in case you accidentally leave the
interior, trunk or underhood lamps
on. If you leave any of
these lamps on while the ignition is in LOCK or OFF,
they will automatically turn off after 10 minutes. The
lamps won’t come back
on again until you do one of
the following:
Turn the ignition to RUN or ACCESSORY.
Turn the interior lamps thumbwheel completely to
the right, then back slightly to the left.
Open (or close and reopen) a door that is closed.
If the vehicle has less than 15 miles (25 km) on
the odometer, the battery saver will turn
off the lamps
after only three minutes.
Head-Up Display (HUD)
.. :he HUD imag- .s too bri, It o DO high in
your field
of view, it may take you more time to
see things you need to see when it’s dark
outside. Be sure to keep the HUD image dim
and placed
low in your field of view.
If your vehicle is
equipped with the Head-Up
Display (HUD), you can
1 see the speedometer
reading (in English
or metric units) and a brief
display of the current
radio station or CD track,
displayed “through”
the windshield.
When you sit up straight in your seat, the HUD image
will appear straight ahead near the front bumper.
3-1 5

Your vehicle is equipped with this cluster or one very
similar to it. It includes indicator warning lights and
gages that are explained on the following pages.
Be sure to read about them.
Speedometer and Odometer
The speedometer lets you see your speed in both miles
per hour (mph) and kilometers per hour (km/h). The
odometer shows how far the vehicle has been driven in
either miles (used in the United States) or in kilometers
(used in Canada).
The vehicle has a tamper-resistant odometer.
If you see
silver lines between the numbers, you’ll know someone
has probably tampered with
it and the numbers may
not be correct.
You may wonder what happens
if the vehicle needs a
new odometer installed.
If the new one can be set to the
mileage total of the old odometer, then that will be
done.
If it can’t, then it will be set at zero and a label
must be put on the driver’s door to show the old mileage
reading when the new odometer was installed.
Trip Odometer
The trip odometer tells how far you have driven since
you last reset it.
To set it to zero, press the reset button
located to the right of the instrument panel cluster.
Tachometer
The tachometer displays the engine speed in thousands
of revolutions per minute (rpm).
Notice: Do not operate the engine with the
tachometer in the shaded warning area, or engine
damage may occur.
3-25

If you need to replace any of your wheels, wheel bolts
or wheel nuts, replace them only with new
GM
original equipment parts. This way, you will be sure to
have the right wheel, wheel bolts and wheel nuts
for your vehicle.
Using the wrong replacement wheels, wheel
bolts or wheel nuts on your vehicle can be
dangerous.
It could affect the braking and
handling
of your vehicle, make your tires lose
air and make you lose control. You could have
a collision
in which you or others could be
injured. Always use the correct wheel, wheel
bolts and wheel
nuts for replacement.
Notice: The wrong wheel can also cause problems
with bearing life, brake cooling, speedometer or odometer calibration, headlamp aim, bumper height.
vehicle ground clearance and tire or tire chain clearance to the body and chassis.
See Changing a Flat
Tire on page 5-76 for more
information.
Used Replacement Wheels
I
Puttin, -1 used wheel on your vehicle is
dangerous. You can’t know how it’s been used
or how far
it’s been driven. It could fail suddenly
and cause a crash.
If you have to replace a
wheel, use a new
GM original equipment wheel.
5-74

If the system is ever reset accidentally, you must
change your oil at
3,000 miles (5 000 km) since your
last oil change. Remember
to reset the oil life system
whenever the oil is changed. See Engine Oil on
page 5-18 for information on resetting the system.
After the services are performed, record the date,
odometer reading and who performed the service on the
maintenance record pages in Part
