REMOVAL
1. Drain engine coolant from radiator drain plug at the bottom of radiator and from water drain plug on engine
cylinder block. Refer to CO-10, "
Changing Engine Coolant" and EM-81, "CYLINDER BLOCK" .
CAUTION:

Perform this step when engine is cold.

Do not spill engine coolant on drive belt.
2. Remove the following parts.

Undercover and splash guard (RH)

Drive belt; Refer to EM-14, "DRIVE BELTS" .

Drive belt auto-tensioner; Refer to EM-15, "Removal and Installation of Drive Belt Auto-Tensioner" .
3. Remove water pump.

Engine coolant will leak from cylinder block, so have a receptacle ready below.
CAUTION:

Handle water pump vane so that it does not contact any other parts.

Water pump cannot be disassembled and should be replaced as a unit.
4. Remove water pump housing with the following procedure;
a. Remove alternator. Refer to SC-27, "
CHARGING SYSTEM" .
b. Remove oil level gauge and oil level gauge guide. Refer to EM-26, "
OIL PAN AND OIL STRAINER" .
CAUTION:
Plug the oil level gauge guide opening to prevent oil pan from entering foreign materials.
c. Remove mounting bolts for water pipe.
d. Remove water pump housing.
5. Remove exhaust manifold and three way catalyst assembly. Refer to EM-23, "
EXHAUST MANIFOLD
AND THREE WAY CATALYST" .
6. Remove water pipe.

CVT FLUID CHECK
Fluid Leakage and Fluid Level Check
Inspect for fluid leakage and check the fluid level. Refer to CVT-13, "Checking CVT Fluid" .
Fluid Condition Check
Inspect the fluid condition.
STALL TEST
Stall Test Procedure
1. Inspect the amount of engine oil. Replenish the engine oil if necessary.
2. Drive for about 10 minutes to warm up the vehicle so that the
CVT fluid temperature is 50 to 80°C (122 to 176°F). Inspect the
amount of CVT fluid. Replenish if necessary.
3. Securely engage the parking brake so that the tires do not turn.
4. Install a tachometer where it can be seen by driver during test.

It is good practice to mark the point of specified engine
rpm on indicator.
5. Start engine, apply foot brake, and place selector lever in “D”
position.
6. While holding down the foot brake, gradually press down the
accelerator pedal.
7. Quickly read off the stall speed, and then quickly remove your
foot from the accelerator pedal.
CAUTION:
Do not hold down the accelerator pedal for more than 5 sec-
onds during this test.
8. Move the selector lever to the “N” position.
9. Cool down the CVT fluid.

1. CHECK INPUT SIGNAL
With CONSULT-II
1. Start engine.
2. Select “SELECTION FROM MENU” in “DATA MONITOR” mode
for “TRANSMISSION” with CONSULT-II.
3. Start vehicle and read out the value of “STM STEP”, “SMCOIL
A”, “SMCOIL B”, “SMCOIL C”, and “SMCOIL D”.
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 4.
NG >> GO TO 2.
2. CHECK HARNESS BETWEEN TCM AND STEP MOTOR
1. Turn ignition switch OFF.
2. Disconnect CVT unit connector and TCM connector.
3. Check continuity between TCM connector terminals and CVT
unit harness connector terminals.
4. If OK, check harness for short to ground and short to power.
5. If OK, check continuity between body ground and CVT assembly.
6. Reinstall any part removed.
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 3.
NG >> Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.

DIFFERENTIAL SIDE OIL SEAL

INSTALLATION
1. As shown below, use a drift to drive the differential side oil seal
into the case until it is flush. Refer to dimensions A.

NOTE:
The differential side oil seal pulling direction is used as the refer-
ence.
Drift to be used:
CAUTION:

When installing differential side oil seals, apply NISSAN CVT Fluid NS-2.

Do not reuse differential side oil seals.
2. Reinstall any part removed.
CAUTION:
If lubricant leak has occurred, after finishing work, check fluid level. Refer to CVT-13, "
Checking

TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY

REMOVAL
CAUTION:
The transaxle assembly itself cannot be removed from the vehicle. Remove the transaxle assembly
and engine assembly together from the vehicle.
1. Disconnect the batter cable from the negative terminal.
2. Remove engine undercover.
3. Remove exhaust front tube with power tool. Refer to EX-2, "
Removal and Installation" .
4. Remove rear plate cover. Refer to EM-145, "
Removal and
Installation" .
5. Turn crankshaft, and remove the four tightening nuts for drive
plate and torque converter.
CAUTION:
The crankshaft should be rotated clockwise, viewed from
the front of the engine.
6. Remove the four bolts in the figure.
7. Remove transaxle assembly and engine assembly together
from the vehicle. Refer to EM-223, "
Removal and Installation" .
8. Remove drive shaft. Refer to FA X - 11 , "
Removal and Installation
(LH)" .
CAUTION:
Be sure to replace the differential side oil seal with new one
at the every removal of drive shaft. Refer to CVT-187,
"Removal and Installation" .
9. Remove rear gusset.
10. Remove CVT fluid level gauge.
11. Remove CVT fluid charging pipe.
12. Remove O-ring from CVT fluid charging pipe.
13. Disconnect harness connector and wire harness.

For the unified meter and A/C amp., the signal required for con-
trolling the combination meter are integrated in the A/C auto
amp.

Unified meter and A/C amp. controls each operation for A/C
auto amp. For information regarding A/C control, refer to AT C -
24, "AIR CONDITIONER CONTROL" .

Unified meter and A/C amp. inputs necessary information for
combination meter from each unit by CAN communication and
so on.

And unified meter and A/C amp. outputs these signals using
communication line (TX, RX) between unified meter and A/C
amp. and combination meter.

The signals required for the distance to empty (DTE) display are centralized in the unified meter and A/C
amp., converted into data, and sent to the display unit (with display unit) using CAN communication.

Other input signals are also sent to the ECM, TCM, BCM and display unit (with display unit) using CAN
communication.

The unified meter and A/C amp. correspond a CONSULT-II function (self-diagnostic results, CAN diag-
nostic support monitor and data monitor).
