CAUTIONO Always connect positive (+) to posi-
tive (+) and negative (þ) to body
ground (for example, strut mounting
bolt, etc. Ð not to the battery).
O Make sure that cables do not touch
moving parts in the engine compart-
ment and that clamps do not contact
any other metal.
5. Start the engine of the other vehicle and let
it run for a few minutes.
6. Keep the engine speed of the other vehicle
at about 2,000 rpm, and start your engine in
the normal manner.
CAUTIONDo not keep starter motor engaged for
more than 10 seconds. If the engine
does not start right away, turn the key
off and wait 3 to 4 seconds before trying
again. 7. After starting your engine, carefully discon-
nect the negative cable and then the posi-
tive cable.
8. Replace the vent caps (if so equipped). Be
sure to dispose of the cloth used to cover
the vent holes as it may be contaminated
with corrosive acid. Do not attempt to start the engine by pushing.
CAUTION O Automatic transmission models can-
not be push started. Attempting to do
so may cause transmission damage.
O Three way catalyst equipped models
should not be started by pushing
since the three way catalyst may be
damaged.
O Never try to start the vehicle by tow-
ing it; when the engine starts, the
forward surge could cause the ve-
hicle to collide with the tow vehicle.

When towing your vehicle, all State (Provincial
in Canada) and local regulations for towing
must be followed. Incorrect towing equipment
could damage your vehicle. Towing instruc-
tions are available from an authorized INFINITI
retailer. Local service operators are generally
familiar with the applicable laws and proce-
dures for towing. To assure proper towing and
to prevent accidental damage to your vehicle,
INFINITI recommends having a service opera-
tor tow your vehicle. It is advisable to have the
service operator carefully read the following
precautions.
WARNINGO Never ride in a vehicle that is being
towed.
O Never get under your vehicle after it
has been lifted by a tow truck.
CAUTIONO When towing, make sure that the
transmission, axles, steering system and powertrain are in working condi-
tion. If any unit is damaged, dollies
must be used.
O Always attach safety chains before
towing.
If needed, Roadside Assistance is available.

CAUTIONO Never tow automatic transmission
models with the rear wheels on the ground or four wheels on the ground
(forward or backward) as this may
cause serious and expensive damage
to the transmission.
If it is necessary to tow the vehicle
with the front wheels raised, always
use towing dollies under the rear
wheels.
O When towing rear wheel drive models
with the front wheels on the ground
or on towing dollies:
Turn the ignition key to the OFF posi-
tion, and secure the steering wheel in
a straight ahead position with a rope
or similar device. Never secure the
steering wheel by turning the ignition
key to the LOCK position. This may
damage the steering lock mecha-
nism.
O If you have to tow manual transmis-
sion models with the rear wheels on
the ground or four wheels on the
ground (if you do not use towing
dollies): O Always release the parking brake.
O Move the transmission shift lever
to the N (Neutral) position.
O Observe the following restricted tow-
ing speeds and distances for manual
transmission models only:
O Speed: Below 60 MPH (95 km/h)
O Distance: Less than 500 miles (800
km)
If the speed or distance must necessarily be
greater, remove the propeller shaft before tow-
ing to prevent damage to the transmission.SCE0387

VEHICLE RECOVERY (Freeing a
stuck vehicle) After removing the front license plate (or the
bumper cover), securely install the towing
hook

Reinstall the license plate on the lower fitting
point.
WARNING O Stand clear of a stuck vehicle.
O Do not spin your tires at high speed.
This could cause them to explode
and result in serious injury. Parts of
your vehicle could also overheat and
be damaged. CAUTION O Tow chains or cables must be at-
tached only to the main structural
members of the vehicle.
O Always pull the cable straight out
from the front of the vehicle. Never
pull on the vehicle at an angle.
O Pulling devices should be routed so
they do not touch any part of the
suspension, steering, brake or cool-
ing systems.
O Pulling devices such as ropes or can-
vas straps are not recommended for

wheel is changed or the underside of the
vehicle is washed.
O Do not use abrasive cleaners when wash-
ing the wheels.
O Inspect wheel rims regularly for dents or
corrosion. Such damage may cause loss of
pressure or poor seal at the tire bead.
O INFINITI recommends that the road wheels
be waxed to protect against road salt in
areas where it is used during winter.
Spare tire (T-type spare tire) Observe the following precautions if the T-type
spare tire must be used, otherwise your ve-
hicle could be damaged or involved in an
accident.
CAUTIONO The T-type spare tire should be used
only for emergency. It should be re-
placed by the standard tire at the first
opportunity.
O Drive carefully while the T-type spare
tire is installed. Avoid sharp turns and abrupt braking
while driving.
O Periodically check the T-type spare
tire inflation pressure, and always
keep it at 60 psi (420 kPa, 4.2 bar).
O Always keep the pressure of the full
size spare tire (if so equipped) at the
recommended pressure for standard
tires, as indicated on the tire placard.

O Do not drive your vehicle at speeds
faster than 50 MPH (80 km/h).
O Do not use tire chains on a T-type
spare tire. Tire chains will not fit prop-
erly on the T-type spare tire and may
cause damage to the vehicle.
O When driving on roads covered with
snow or ice, the T-type spare tire
should be used on the front wheel
and the original tire used on the rear
wheels (drive wheels). Use tire chains only on the rear two original tires.

O Tire tread of the T-type spare tire will
wear at a faster rate than the original
tire. Replace the T-type spare tire as
soon as the tread wear indicators
appear.
O Because the T-type spare tire is
smaller than the original tire, ground
clearance is reduced. To avoid dam-
age to the vehicle do not drive over
obstacles. Also do not drive the ve-
hicle through an automatic car wash
since it may get caught.
O Do not use the T-type spare tire on
other vehicles.
O Do not use more than one T-type
spare tire at the same time.
O Do not tow a trailer while the T-type
spare tire is installed.

from the air conditioner after use is normal. If
you should notice any leaks or if gasoline
fumes are evident, check for the cause and
have it corrected immediately. To ensure smooth, trouble-free, safe and eco-
nomical driving, INFINITI provides two differ-
ent maintenance schedules that may be used,
depending upon the conditions in which you
usually drive. These schedules contain both
distance and time intervals, up to 60,000 miles
(96,000 km)/48 months. For most people, the
odometer reading will indicate when service is
needed. However, if you drive very little, your
vehicle should be serviced at the regular time
intervals shown in the schedule. After 60,000
miles (96,000 km) or 48 months, continue
periodic maintenance at the same
mileage/time intervals.
SCHEDULE 1 Follow Periodic Maintenance Schedule 1 if
your driving habits frequently include one or
more of the following driving conditions:
O repeated short trips of less than 5 miles
(8 km).
O repeated short trips of less than 10 miles
(16 km) with outside temperatures re-
maining below freezing.
O operating in hot weather in stop-and-go
rush hour traffic.
O extensive idling and/or low speed driv-
ing for long distances, such as police,
taxi or door-to-door delivery use. O driving in dusty conditions.
O driving on rough, muddy, or salt spread
roads.
O towing a trailer, using a camper or a
car-top carrier.
SCHEDULE 2 Follow Periodic Maintenance Schedule 2 if
