System Description
NATS has the following immobiliser functions:
IThis version of NATS has dongle control unit to improve its anti-theft performance (RHD models). Dongle
control unit has its own ID which is registered into NATS IMMU. So if dongle unit is replaced, initialization
must be carried out.
IWhen malfunction of dongle unit is detected:
The security indicator lamp illuminates for about 15 minutes after ignition switch is turned to ON.
Ð When dongle control unit has a malfunction, and the indicator lamp is illuminated, engine can not be
started. However engine can be started only one time when security indicator lamp turns off in about
15 minutes after ignition switch is turned to ON.
ISince only NATS ignition keys, whose ID nos. have been registered into the ECM and IMMU of NATS,
allow the engine to run, operation of a stolen vehicle without a NATS registered key is prevented by NATS.
That is to say, NATS will immobilize the engine if someone tries to start it without the registered key of
NATS.
IAll of the originally supplied ignition key IDs have been NATS registered.
If requested by the vehicle owner, a maximum of five key IDs can be registered into the NATS compo-
nents.
IThe NATS security indicator (NATS security ind.) blinks when the ignition switch is in ªOFFº or ªACCº
position. Therefore, NATS warns outsiders that the vehicle is equipped with the anti-theft system.
IWhen NATS detects trouble, the security indicator lamp lights up as follows.

INATS trouble diagnoses, system initialisation and additional registration of other NATS ignition key IDs
must be carried out using CONSULT-II hardware and CONSULT-II NATS software.
Regarding the procedures of NATS initialisation and NATS ignition key ID registration, refer to CONSULT-II
operation manual, NATS.
IWhen servicing a malfunction of the NATS (indicated by lighting up of security Indicator Lamp) or
registering another NATS ignition key ID no., it may be necessary to re-register original key iden-
tification. Therefore, be sure to receive all keys and the PIN code from vehicle owner.

SETTING THE THEFT WARNING SYSTEM
Initial condition
(1) Close all doors.
(2) Close hood.
Pre-armed phase and armed phase
The theft warning system turns into the ªpre-armedº phase when hood and all doors are closed and locked by
key or multi-remote controller. (The security indicator lamp blinks intermittently for 30 seconds.)
After about 30 seconds, the system automatically shifts into the ªarmedº phase (the system is set).
CANCELING THE SET THEFT WARNING SYSTEM
When the following (a) or (b) operation is performed, the armed phase is canceled.
(a) Unlock the doors with the multi-remote controller.
(b) Insert key in ignition key cylinder and turn it to ON. Then NATS IMMU will send a disarm signal to the time
control unit.
ACTIVATING THE ALARM OPERATION OF THE THEFT WARNING SYSTEM
Make sure the system is in the armed phase. When the following operation (a) (b) (c) or (d) is performed, the
system sounds the horns and flashes the hazard lamp for about 30 seconds.
(a) Engine hood or any door is opened before unlocking door with the multi-remote controller.
(b) A door is unlocked without using the multi-remote controller.
(c) The ignition is switched ON without using a NATS registered key.
(d) The ultrasonic sensing is triggered.

INITIAL CONDITION TO ARM THE SYSTEM
The operation of the theft warning system is controlled by all the doors and hood.
To activate the theft warning system, the time control unit must receive signals indicating all the doors and
hood are closed and the doors are locked.
When a door is open, time control unit terminal
U06orU07receives a ground signal from each door switch.
When a door is unlocked, time control unit terminal

Trouble diagnosis of turbocharger
Preliminary check:
Check that the VNT control valve system has no malfunction. Refer
to EC section, ªECM Terminals and Reference Valueº in ªTROUBLE
DIAGNOSIS Ð GENERAL DESCRIPTIONº.
ICheck that the engine oil level is between MIN and MAX of the
dipstick. (When the engine oil amount is more than MAX, the
oil flows into the inlet duct through the blow-by gas passage,
and the turbocharger is misjudged failure.)
IAsk the customer if he/she always runs the vehicle in idle
engine speed to cool the oil down after driving.
IReplace the turbocharger assembly when any malfunction is
found after unit inspections specified in the table below.
IIf no malfunction is found after the unit inspections, judge that
the turbocharger body has no failure. Check the other parts
again.

INSTALLATION
1. Install catalyst.
:29-39N×m (2.9 - 3.3 kg-m, 21 - 23 ft-lb)
Place the protruding area of the gasket between the turbocharger
and the exhaust outlet upwards, and install the lipped side to the
turbocharger side. Refer to the figure, EM-14.
2. Install in the reverse order of removal.
