To minimize the risk of personalinjury in the event of a collision ora sudden stop, both the driver'sand passenger's seatback should remain in an upright position while the car is in motion. The protectionprovided by the seat belts andairbags may be reduced signifi-cantly when the seatbacks are re-clined. There is a greater risk that the seat occupants will slide under the belt resulting in serious injuryif a crash occurs when the seatbacksare reclined. The seat belt cannotprovide full protection to an occu-pant if the seat back is reclined.

1- 32 FEATURES OF YOUR HYUNDAI
o Front airbags are not intended to
deploy in side-impact, rear-im- pact or rollover crashes. In addi-tion, airbags will not deploy infrontal crashes below the deploy-ment threshold speed.
o The driver should sit back as far as possible while still maintain-ing control of the vehicle. If youare sitting too close to the airbag,it can cause death or seriousinjury when it inflates.
o No objects should be placed over or near the airbag modules onthe steering wheel, instrumentpanel, and the front passenger'spanel above the glove box, because any such object couldcause harm if the vehicle is in a crash severe enough to cause the airbags to deploy.
o If the airbags deploy, they must
be replaced by an authorizedHyundai dealer.o The SRS is designed to deploythe airbags only when an impact is sufficiently severe and whenthe impact angle is less than 30°from the forward longitudinal axisof the vehicle and will not deployin side, rear or rollover impacts. Additionally, the airbags will only deploy once. Thus, seat beltsmust be worn at all times.
o Front airbags are not intended deploy in light collisions in whichprotection can be provided by the seat belt.

the front passenger with additional pro- tection than that offered by the seat-belt system alone, in case of a frontalimpact of sufficient severity. NOTE: Be sure to read information about the SRS on the labels provided on the backside of the sun visor and inthe glove box.
!WARNING:
o As its name implies, the SRS is designed to work with, and be supplemental to, the driver's andthe passenger's three point seatbelt systems and is not a substi- tute for them. Therefore, your seat belts must be worn at alltimes while the vehicle is in mo-tion. The airbags deploy only incertain frontal impact conditionssevere enough to likely cause significant injury to the vehicle occupants.

Passenger's Airbag
B240B05L
B240B04L
Passenger's Airbag
After complete inflation, the airbag immediately starts deflating, enablingthe driver to maintain forward visibility.
B240B03L
The airbag modules are located bothin the center of the steering wheel andin the front passenger's panel abovethe glove box. When the SRSCM de-tects a considerable impact to the front of the vehicle, it will automatically de- ploy the airbags. Upon deployment, tear seams molded directly into the pad covers will sepa-rate under pressure from the expan- sion of the airbags. Further opening of the covers then allows full inflation ofthe airbags. A fully inflated airbag in combination with a properly worn seat belt slows the driver's or the passenger's forward motion, thus reducing the risk of heador chest injury.
B240B02L
The SRS service reminder indicator (SRI) on the instrument panel will blinkfor about 6 seconds after the ignitionkey is turned to the "ON" position or after the engine is started, after which the SRI should go out.

Any work on the SRS system, such as removing, installing, repairing, or anywork on the steering wheel must be performed by a qualified Hyundai tech- nician. Improper handling of the SRSsystem may result in serious personalinjury.
o Do not place any objects (an
umbrella, bag, etc.) between thefront door and the front seat.Such objects may become dan-gerous projectiles and cause in-jury if the supplemental side im- pact air bag inflates.
o To prevent unexpected deploy- ment of the side impact air bag that may result in personal in-jury, avoid impact to the sideairbag sensor when the ignition key is on.
o For best protection from the side
airbag system and to avoid being injured by the deploying sideimpact airbag, both front seatoccupants should sit in an up- right position with the seat belt properly fastened. The driver'shands should be placed on thesteering wheel at the 9:00 and3:00 o'clock positions. Thepassenger's arms and hands should be placed in their laps.
o Do not use any accessory seat

o Modification to SRS components
or wiring, including the addition of any kind of badges to the pad covers or modifications to the body structure, can adverselyaffect SRS performance and leadto possible injury.

o No objects should be placed over
or near the airbag modules onthe steering wheel, instrumentpanel, and the front passenger'spanel above the glove box, be-cause any such object could cause harm if the vehicle is in a crash severe enough to causethe airbags to inflate.
o If the airbags inflate, they must be replaced by an authorizedHyundai dealer. o Do not tamper with or discon-
nect SRS wiring, or other com-ponents of the SRS system. Do- ing so could result in injury, due to accidental firing of the airbagsor by rendering the SRS inopera-tive.
o If components of the airbag sys- tem must be discarded, or if the vehicle must be scrapped, cer- tain safety precautions must beobserved. Your Hyundai dealerknows these precautions and cangive you the necessary informa- tion. Failure to follow these pre- cautions and procedures couldincrease the risk of personal in-jury.
o If you sell your vehicle, make certain that this manual is trans- ferred to the new owner.
